IIRC in his interlude his arrows do basically have mininuke power. He's fighting at low power and he's still wrecking a forest or somesuch.

Melee should be pretty close honestly. What have we really seen from Scathach skill wise? She was more skilled than Charlemagne, but his skill seems like an unknown. Arjuna has better skill feats at the moment, Scathach having God Slayer and a better melee weapon to balance out. Although I suppose she could use wisdom to boost stats/skills like Nero does with IP.
What I was disagreeing with was your idea that long ranged fighters(Archers in this case) have a de facto advantage over close range ones (Lancer in this case) most of the time. Because they don't. It depends on a whole lot of conditions, which you need to take into account, starting distance between the opponents being one of them, and it just so happens that before they fight Arjuna and Karna are close enough to have a regular conversation, which implies they're not far from each other at all.
So obviously Arjuna managing to hold his own against Karna in this case means he's pretty impressive, even if he was slowly getting overpowered.
Scathach considers fighting without a weapon inelegant.

I've only seen the anime for Trigun, based on which Vash is utter fodder outside of Angel Arm which he would get blitzed before being able to use.
Manga Vash has an auto defense system thats able to block angel arm attacks from his brother knives. Attacks which leave holes in the moon visible from the surface, and which reach said moon in seconds from surface level. He can also fire angel arm blasts faster than his brother, who was amped up on thousands of PLANTS, could react.
Also he can make subspace bullets, and black hole bullets.
Even then, I would have to assume that outside of the Second Magic, Zelretch has at least a decent knowledge of magecraft which Valentine can't really defend against.
So it's a vote for Zelretch from me.
