I knew about the stuffs awhile back but it didn't sound interesting to me until recent stuffs with alternate history, lostbelt timelines, and especially the latest Guda event. I wonder if Amateru is a pruned history in TM due to the documents telling his story is considered to be fake news by a lot of scholars in Japan (yet they cannot fully debunk it, still a topic of debate now).
Not surprising since his story told a very different legend of ancient Japan, in which "kami" are not referring to actual gods but nobles of royal family. Amateru was first and foremost a normal human dude who played a role similar to Rama or the Yellow Emperor in uniting the country, inventing a lunisolar calendar system, destroying rebels led by his brother SusanoO and promote the philosophy "way of heaven" which is quite similar to Taoism but has certain differences. The mythical legend told in Nihon Shoki and Kojiki seems to be based on his story, with him being genderbent maybe due to propaganda and people associated with him were elevated to godly status. Omoikane - one of his trusted scholar became the god of wisdom. Toyouke - his mentor who taught him how to read, write and the way of heaven (sounds like the Tao in Taoism) became the goddess Toyouke who serves Amaterasu (another genderbent victim). Even the incident of the cave also had different implications. In Amateru's case, he was mad at SusanoO's rampage, but instead of acting like a spoiled kid like his genderbent version, he tried to reason with his brother to calm the guy down. He hid in the cave not because of anger, but self disappointment of his own failure to educate his brother (basically hid away in shame of his incompetence than getting pissed). And his friends and followers (elevated to gods in myth version ofc) tried to get him outside by ordering the Uzumes dancing (no stripping like in Amaterasu's case). There are a lot of "missing links" such as gods whose name cannot be found in myth yet worship for a long time, their names were only found in his story and not Amaterasu's basically.
Basically if Nasu is aware of this stuff then Amateru's world was pruned in favor of history where fox girl is dominant, he is a forgotten legend. I doubt Nasu would bring it up tho, that would break the heart of some delicate fox fans out there. I don't, cuz I even knew about this since I played SMT where they had Amateru in there several times lol.
