To be fair, if you're comparing historical figures, males outnumber females ten to one, and that doesn't even take into account mythology.

In mythology, and let's use the Greeks for an example; if you're female, you're either Paris of Troy, who does fuck all but has blokes warring around her, or you're Medea, at best mindraped by a god, and at worst a horrifying harpy who'll murder her own kids if she's told the standard "sure, of course i love you, yeah, you're the only one for me" lie to get some nookie, or you're one of the Amazons, who're proud warriors whose only role is to be kidnapped or murdered by the score by a bloke who's being set up to be a hero, or you're Medusa, who either bangs a god or is raped (though if a greek god is propositioning you, your consent isn't relevant), and then is turned into a horrifying monster, and then is killed by yet another bloke being set up for hero-dom.

If you don't genderbend, your choice for waifus is slim, to say the least.

I think you meant Helen, not Paris. And sure, Greek heroines were few and far apart (basically boils down to just Atalanta), but if you take personnages that could be made into Heroic Spirits without being considered heroes by contemporary standards into account, that number broadens quite a bit. Clytemnestra, who assassinated Agamemnon, for example. Antigone from Seven Against Thebes. Ariadne the daughter of Minos who helped Theseus overcome the Labyrinth (and/or her sister Phaedra in some versions of the legend). Hippolyta the Amazon. Electra, Agamemnon's daughter. Cassandra the cursed prophetess of Troy. Etc, etc. The Greeks knew well the power that women could wield, they just didnt really have any warrior women to write about (remember, Athena was also the patron goddess of war, right opposite Ares).


Edit: You know, on reflection, I should probably ease up on the Greek thing.

Also, RE: Atalante vs Atalanta: You're most probably not going to pronounce it correctly whichever way you spell it, so just use whichever you find easier on the eyes. Doesn't really matter if you type Heracles or Hercules, if you wanted a phonetic approximation you should be typing Erakles anyway (accent on the second 'e', sound like the 'e' in "e-mail").
