describe gareth as one thing, do the sprite completely differently
Literally all media ignores that so it's fine.
Specially because theirs is better looking.
I know, just had to point that out. The KoTR would look way more underwhelming in modified legionnaire gear.
Oh, hey, Sutoku! I recognize him! I had to translate some stuff about him since he apparently died here and his mausoleum is in Sakaide. Had no idea he was a loli though; the original text never mentioned gender so I just assumed he was a he.
I mean think of it this way, if Artoria got so much trouble because of her gender wouldn't it also makes sense that Gareth was boyish? Besides the stuff that was described about was that she had pretty hands and we haven't seen that yet. Just be prepared to see her strip as we go through Ascensions.

I've read and re-read the description of Adam in the novel, and I actually think Boris Karloff was a good effort for the time, aside from the neck bolts. Frankenstein tried to make him attractive, but he's still repulsive; he has shriveled, jaundiced skin - basically he looks like a corpse that's been dead awhile, which is, y'know...
What are the runes on Excalibur again?
O walls, you have held up so much tedious graffiti that I am amazed you have not already collapsed in ruin.
Yes she's a girl. Bedivere calls her Gareth-chan. Also she was buds with Mordred.

I actually don't know if what is one Excalibur means anything. I remember a guy that was able to translate the runes on Gae Dearg and Gae Buldhe which was interesting(both of them had a rune that was used for Tyr, the Norse War God) and that he mentioned that Crocea Mors had some legible runes but I have no idea if that applies with Excalibur.

I would be VERY interested to know if anyone can recognize that as a real script. It doesn't look like Ogham or Futhark to me, but I'm not really familiar with those and perhaps it's just stylized beyond what a novice like me would easily recognize.
I am familiar with this, and it ain't anything Celtic.

This is actually one of the two gender-bends in the Arthurian legend that I can see making sense, next to Arthur himself, which makes the whole Lancelot thing make a lot more sense. I mean, you could probably see the Holy Lance as something phallic and Percival virgin somethingsomething but that's neither here nor there.
Gareth being a girl really just adds another layer of hilarity onto the legend, and hilarity is all that she's about until Lancelot kills her. She sneaks into the castle because she wants to see the big bro's boy band, Kay either mistakes her for a boy or lets her stay both of which is in character, and then when she actually goes on a journey she keeps being misunderstood and doesn't even get a chance to explain herself until she comes all the way back, Gawain sees what happens and says that this is, uh, his brother, yeah.
It also adds another layer on the bitchy lady she is escorting, because when the dame is not really a dame, it makes sense the knight would not be a knight. It writes itself like an episode of otome manga, the only thing we don't know is whether Gareth was misleading the lady intentionally.
They know Gareth is a girl though, unlike Mordred and Artoria.
Localizationing stuff
Sounds kinda like it undermines Artoria's whole "must not be a girl, but a perfect king" thing if there was a flat out female knight sitting in on the Round Table
Spoiler:
And besides she's boyish enough the commoners probably wouldn't know. Remember Gareth was popular on the table as she was the cute sibling of the Orkney Brothers. They were prprobably fine with her gender because well most of the Round Table was her family. I mean seriously out of Thirteen Knights you had 5 other knights that was related to her.

Plus, every team of unstoppable badasses needs an adorable mascot-type character.
It's a union rule.
