I joined two years too late...
I barely check most of the site anymore because combing through for actual content is a tremendous chore.
I used to try to mitigate this by making lists/digests, but then I became busier and less committed.
Systematic content curating of any kind would have helped, but I'm afraid it's a bit too late now.
also someone (not you coke) translate the last 3 chapters of KnK pls

As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero.
I've just noticed the former post didn't touch the subject of megathreads, so, *inhales deeply*
MEGA VS MICRO THREADS: A CONTENT CURATOR'S PERSPECTIVE
MEGATHREADS MICROTHREADS + Simplify the general search for content by centralizing it Simplify the search for specific content
Make new content prominent- Topics become muddled
Lines of discussion intermingle
Threads become noisy and hard to navigate
Eventually the front page becomes an intimidating cromlech of old threadsThread index becomes noisy
Old content becomes buried and hard to review in absence of decent curating tools
For microthreads to work you need a reddit kind of system where the good stuff floats to the top.
Macrothreads don't work, period.
In either case, a vBulletin forum isn't a good way to store content unless several people put a ton of work.
As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero.
I propose a new system where there is only one thread, but all posts are automatically deleted after ten minutes and content curation is handled in the memory of whoever happened to be around to see it.
ah, the good old "I totally recall arai saying that in old BL" argument
As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero.
Lol. I'm fine with megathreads. Attempting to curate content into microthreads might sound good in principle, but it could be stifling to conversation here. The derails of a thread are sometimes as worthwhile as the original topic. If people have an issue with the derail of a given thread, they can just reintroduce the topic, as aldeayeah provided an example of.
