Something I like in Fanfiction discussion: when I'm right and the person I'm arguing against is wrong.
It's called "For All Time" and good luck finding it online. I had a friend take about a year to find someone who personally had it backed up on their harddrive rather than find it again on a site.
Localizationing stuff
One thing I love about some fanfics (well its more of an author thing) is when they openly break away from canon, but at the same time all the world building that existed in the source material is not thrown away but rather built upon in a new way. Its especially entertaining to read when its a crossover cause when done right can completely change the way a setting into something completely new rather then just being a mash together of two.
An author that comes to mind with this is FernandelDeLaFrance on FFN. He does not write nasuverse fanfiction but he is outstanding at doing this and all his stories are fairly enjoyable because of it.
Those old school Eva fics make me so happy and sad at the same time.
Happy because they're so damn good and sad because half of them are dead and the rest I can recite back to front. ;____;
When that one fanfic that rarely updates does, and its a glorious update.

Forest is a vampire who's a bit too good for her own good and doesn't know when to leave things alone. Armed with a ridiculously large hand gun, martial arts skills, a bitching pony car, and a love for pop culture she fights the forces of evil. Urban Fantasy 80's Style.

My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.

Spoilered for your convenience
When a fanfic you remember as being utterly amazing updates, and it's still as amazing as you remember. This sadly doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's a magical feeling.

On the topic of "The Second Try" because it falls into the category, I love it when a Peggy Sue fic is well written and honestly, fully explores the possible changes that could take place if a character woke up with memories of what had already happened before.
Oh god yes this.
One of the best one's I've taken a look at also had the main character avoid killing a person that had betrayed him in the future because he couldn't logically explain why he did it to anyone and because he couldn't prove he was a traitor. It's a clever little bit of plot and character that keeps everything believable by having the main character realize that all his future knowledge is useless if he acts on it preemptively and without reason to those of the current timeline.
There's some interesting conversation in the Index/Recommendation thread, but it seems more focused on broad-spectrum analysis and keeping up with the community as a whole, so I created this thread for more detailed personal opinions. What are the things you like best in Type Moon fan fiction, and what are some of your favorite examples?
