You ran out of visual novels to read? Does... does that even happen?

Luckily for you all, I copied and pasted the latest revision of how I became a Type-Moon fanatic hours before the old forums were shut down. And so, for your enjoyment . . . (revised, yet again) . . .

My very first exposure to Type-Moon was about 5 years ago on a different messageboard. A thread showed up that basically amounted to all of the regular posters saying, "ZOMG! ZOMG! New patch for Melty Blood is out! ZOMG! ZOMG! ZOMG!" My first thought was "What the fuck is 'Melty Blood'?" I looked it up on Wikipedia, but I was still like, "What the fuck? Sequel to a visual novel? Has a spinoff about heroic servants? What?" Slowly but surely, more and more people on the online hangouts I kept going to continued to refer to this "Nasuverse" over time, but I had no idea what the fuck any of it was supposed to mean. I mean, everywhere I was going, I kept hearing people saying things like, "People die when they are killed" "Tohsaka is hawt" "A cat is fine too" et cetera.

I couldn't stand being in the dark anymore, so in January of 2010, I "acquired" a copy of the Tsukihime VN and the patch to go along with it.

    I was floored.

Mind you, this was the first VN I ever read, and to this day, is my favorite VN.

After swooning over Tsukihime, I later "acquired" Kagetsu Tohya, Melty Blood Act Cadenza, and Fate/Stay Night. I joined Beast's lair in April 2010, right after I finished F/SN. The madness only continued. I even bought a few volumes of the manga version of Tsukihime, and now here I am, talking about something I used to know absolutely nothing about. I've never seen the anime versions, (mind you, I know better than to watch an animated adaptation of a video game, and also, I've had a lot of bad experiences with anime in the past, so, yeah, I might be one of the lucky ones.) but now I'm hooked*. I'm even writing a Nasuverse fanfic now! And I also hope to experience F/HA, KnK, F/Z, and whatever Aoko's game is called in the future.

And also . . . ever since my madness began . . . I developed a mild crush on Arcueid and Akiha . . . but then again, one reason I love the Nasuverse so much is because of how luscious its women are . . .

*Actually, I watched snippets of the Fate anime about a month ago, for research for a fanfic (not Type-Moon related) I was writing. Puh-LEEZE do not remind me of my experiences with the Fate anime, okay? Thanks.

Long time ago in the dusty place known as my game room, I was playing with the PS3. After, going to the second level of Half Life 2 episode 1 my game froze and crashed. When I tried reloading it, my PS3 could not read discs. I tried everything I could to fix it without buying a new one. (I could not send it to Sony because the warranty expired )

Anyway, I decided to watch anime other than Bleach. While, looking down at a list of anime to watch I saw Fate/Stay Night and thought it had a cool title, but I did not watch it. During, the summer at my cousin's house we were watching a lot of anime to pass the time. Then, I saw Fate/Stay Night again, but still did not watch it because we we looking for Code Geass.

Then, I had to move to from my home state of Texas to South Carolina (not fun). So, during my boring weekends of my freshman year of high school, I found Fate/Stay Night again and decided to watch it because I had nothing to do. After being somewhat blown away after watching my first romance anime, I looked for more stuff like this. My not so long search landed me into the Tsukihime anime which I watched 3 episodes and then stopped because I was really busy that semester.

During the Spring i finally finished the Tsukihime anime. Still, bored without a PS3 I found the Fate/Stay Night English dubs on YouTube and read the comments saying this madness was based on an eorge game. After spending some time on the internet I finally acquired the Fate/Stay Night visual novel. I played like 3 hours of it then stopped. While I was at an anime convention I saw Melty Blood: Actress Again and got into that. Then, during my Spring Break I found the KnK anime and watched that. I later finished the Fate/Stay Night visual novel in the long time of the Summer and read the Tsukihime visual novel during that time too.

After all of that I was intrigued in the Nasuverse. I spent a lot of time of Type-Moon Wiki to further my knowledge about the universe. This later landed me on fanfiction.net and then on Beast's Lair.

I started watching the FSN anime and was drawn in by the storyline, that girl in pigtails with a red blouse and the cynical knight in red. Then I learned that the VN was supposed to be much better, so I got hold of a copy and started reading... Took me long to finish reading it (and I still curse HF 9th or 10th day, took forever!!!) and it was one of the most enjoyable things I've read in my life (serious!). Then I found about BL, became a member, then kinda put it away until recently, when I was bored and decided I would finish Tsukihime so that I could have a better understanding of the discussions here (someone told me before that to post stuff that makes sense in General Discussion you need to have read at least Tsukihime, and I vowed to do it one day). Tsukihime was amazing, I fell in love with Arcueid, but by the time I've reached Kohaku route I felt things were repeating themselves a lot and I just wanted to end it soon (I did the wrong thing and ended up reading some spoilers), however I was overall very satisfied with Tsukihime. FSN is the better game (and Realta Nua increases the distance, because of the voices, the effects, all the gallery shots and the status screen, all of which I missed in Tsukihime), but Tsukihime might have a slight edge in terms of storyline, its darker tone was more to my taste. I felt Arcueid and Hisui's love stories were very touching and even I, who very rarely cry when reading books or watching films, felt a hint of a teardrop on my face during Arcueid's True Ending.

I haven't watched KnK and other Type-Moon works but I'm looking forward to doing it.

I got very lucky since at the time I got into Type-Moon FSN and Tsukihime had already been fully translated.

Sakura Matou's now-defunct Wikipedia page. That's all it took to get me into Type-Moon.

Haha, but you missed out the Golden Days of Beast's Lair and Mirror Moon. A lot of the stuff we know now was translated and with the discrepancies ironed out during those active translating days.

I'm sure it must have been really fun! But there's still fun to be had with Zero, HA...

I fully believe that one of those will someday be released.

Well, I personally probably wouldn't have been here if it wasn't fully translated at the time. I mean, the story was great (even the first two routes), but I don't think I'd have gotten into discussing it if it weren't for me wanting more information on what happened to Sakura (in particular, post-Fate and UBW...) and the backstory more generally. Which led me to Fate/Zero and, on reading the beginning of that, to attempting to write a fanfic based on it, to save Sakura. I needed help with it, so I registered here, and once I'd done that my natural tendancy towards arguing took over....

As for FSN itself, I got into it by reading the page on TV tropes (which I stumbled across randomly). I thought it looked interesting, so I downloaded it (which, in itself is nothing unusual, I have tons of games I've downloaded and played once lying around), started going through it and found myself hooked very quickly.

My friend and his brother were busy introducing me into anime and other Japanese media. His brother kept trying to get me to read anything Fate/stay Night. Which, I vehemently refused saying the basic plot synopsis on Wikipedia sounded to hard for me to take in, i.e. nonsensical/ridiculous. After a while, I played my first visual novel and decided to give in and at least try Fate since I liked that VN. Playing Fate has since led me to read and collect all things Type-Moon.

I'm still a newcomer to the world of Type-Moon though, in fact, only last week I just finished Fate (only the Tiger Dojos left now!) and eagerly awaiting the completion of Fate/zero LN and the Tsukihime manga. I would like to say though, I thoroughly despise this brother of the friend for introducing me. Since he has, we have had nothing but conversations about the Nasuniverse and how it is a paradoxical mix of awesome ideas and general horribleness that makes me want to cry.

How did YOU get into Type-Moon?
    one word: hentai

A bit ridiculous, but while I was surfing around the internet I accidently came across some FSN goods. At the time I wasn't aware of what exactly FSN was. In any case despite that the goods were a bit colored, I was intrigued by the plot (not only the 'colored' part). I started to search for FSN on wiki. After my interest was sufficiently satisfied I decided to read the manga and watch the anime. This was followed by the VN, incidentally this was the first time I read a VN. This was followed by Tsukihime and Kara no Kyōkai. Looking back I suppose this wasn't the best way to be introduced to the world of visual novels.

Well, the same basically applied to me, only in my case it was simply reading about the content that got me interested, rather than seeing any actual porn of it....

  18. #58
I got interested because someone on another forum mentioned the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors and Zelretch. Yet strangely, it's F/sn I wound up reading and liking first.

I got into Typemoon when I first saw Shingetsutan Tsukihime 5 years ago, after that I decided to research about it online and that was
when I stumbled upon Evo's amazing site: THE MOONLIT WORLD and then it took off from there. ( VIVA TYPEMOON! )
