The sex in the novels, for the most part, had a purpose. In the series, it's done almost entirely for titillation, or worse.
I mean, this is the same series which turned an entirely consensual sex scene into rape, for instance.

Mind, I'm not defending the novels as high literature or anything, but they're like a steak dinner to the TV series' hamburger.

Really? Compare the novel's and the series' depiction of the scene of Viserys talking to Daenerys about the importance of her marrying Khal Drogo. In one of them she's clothed, and even when she bathes lates, it's dealt with in a few perfunctory sentences; in the other, she's naked the entire time and the camera is almost always focused on her body.
The novels did grow more exploitative, shall we say, as they went on, but the series started out way above that. There's a reason people coined the term "sexposition" about the series, not the books.
Unironically, I would consider that GoT's sexposition isn't necessarily bad, but I probably think that due to being tainted by anime.
It's not bad. Rather than being tainted by anime, you've broken free of the West's puritan culture-induced brainwashing. Sex is good and most people do it, as do most fictional characters. In fact, sex should be just as if not more acceptable in common media than violence, and the fact that it isn't is just a testament to how backwards our values are.

Yeah, people tend to forget that most hardcore otaku-pandering anime is actually incredibly niche in Japan. The fact that so much of it comes over to the West if anything says more about us than them.
