Calling Gilles and his tentacles "lovecraftian" because he used a meme incantation and summoned tentacle monsters is quite the disservice.

We never really got Lovecraft mythos shit until Gilles??

And well now with GO very explicitly which I'm ambivalent on. Just from impressions, it seems superficial and not really needed? Will say I'm not that well read with Lovecraft and other ilk.

Types were cribbed directly from Angels though

Lovecraft made more than just horror. He made an entirely new genre: Cosmic Horror. Modern literature and popular culture is influenced as such by Lovecraft that Gilles' shenanigans can indeed be traced back to Lovecraft.

TM indeed borrowed many elements from Lovecraft, which as pointed out, Nasu already implemented in his earlier works. Now the problem is that with the direction FGO is taking, started with Gilles' explicit reference to Lovecraft, TM is now basically trying to implement Lovecraft cosmology into TM, instead of just using Lovecraft as a passing meme.

maybe not intentionally, but the thematic is similar enough that the kaiju genre could fit nicely within lovecraft
which later writers may easily synthesis both

I thought Evangelion was based on Christian religious horror?

It has Christian imagery but not really. It's very surface level.
