To be fair, at least his inspiration comes from the works of guys like Hideyuki Kikuchi, Anno and Ikuhara rather than let's say Reki Kawahara which many of the current LN authors seem to base their writing and ideas off of. But yeah, gotta agree with old grumpy Miyazaki that there's a pretty obvious dichotomy between the creations of those who write from their own life experiences compared to those who create works which are seeped in otaku culture and nothing else.

FWIW, Wikipedia gives his birthdate as November 28, 1973. ANN makes it November 18, same year. No citations in either case. Anyway, that would make him 45.
