I think maybe you're just misreading how much nasu actually does stuff for how cool they are first and how they """make sense""" or whatever second. I put that in quotes because it's not like that makes it any worse, Nasu is good with justifying stuff he wants to put in the story when it's necessary.
What I mean to say is that Fate has always been quite self indulgent imo

Nasu: Writer's aren't gods
Also Nasu: Timelines get pruned because writers don't want to write more

I agree, but does any of that change the fact that Illya's fight scene was superfluous?

It was fun and as Nasu himself said, showed off Ilya's strength. Either way, it didn't detract from anything IMO, so I don't care. I WILL defend Berserkles and his athletic skills to the death tho, since it really shows of his true danger, and besides, in the Ufo fight, Saber was using the graveyard and her natural agility to her full advantage, so of course Berserkles couldn't just go tank on her. That, and I like Berserkles' and Lancelots' scenes because despite their insanity, their skills aren't diminished in the slightest and they are still dangerous super warriors.
Well, I'll have to civilly disagree according to the things I've said above for the reasons I've said above. It's supposed to be an unpopular opinion, anyway.

Or in other words: Archer, the man who auditioned for Dante and was rejected...
Also, not necessarily related but... is there any major character voiced by Ami Koshimizu, because I just had a dream that reminded me her voice is wondrous... no, not that kind of dream. The dream just reminded me how "Queen Bee" ish she could sound and that's something I dig in female characters, the kind of "come, my children" voice that I think wouldn't be out of place in someone like Scathach...
