Agreed, he's simply in a polyamorous relationship. Hell he should ask ProJared for some advice.
But that implies he loved Maiya.
Pretty much what I was going to say, yeah. Kiritsugu's whole shtick was "sacrifice the few to save the many". That those few include practically everyone he ever loved or cared about (Natalya, Irisiviel, Illya, Maiya- heck, starting with his dad, even) only speaks of the depth of his conviction.
So yeah, feel free to call him naive, stupid, cynical, ruthless, whatever. But not "cheater", "two-timer", or anything frivolous like that. He was The Least Frivolous Man In The World.

He's still using her for his own benefit.
In point of fact, he's using her for the World's benefit, which is why she supports him in the first place.

Between a Master under the protection of his Servant, and a magus that guards his headquarters all by himself, which one of those two enemies is easier to defeat? – Kiritsugu would definitely choose the latter. If another magus chose the same answer as Kiritsugu, he would certainly attack Irisviel, who remained in the castle, once he knew that Saber was fighting alone.
She had finally met up with Kiritsugu, but they are about to be separated again; this made Irisviel very unsettled. She became more unsettled when she detected the pain and conflict Kiritsugu hid in his heart. However, she’s only a burden if she stays by Kiritsugu’s side. After all, meeting with Kiritsugu in the castle is already a breach of the rules they agreed on before.
“…”
Irisviel finally felt the root of her anxiety when she coolly thought things through in her heart. It wasn’t because of being separated from Kiritsugu, but because she has to move together with Maiya. Kiritsugu did originally plan to have Maiya protect Irisviel, but Irisviel still couldn’t get rid of her detest towards Maiya. She's clearly not okay with it until HGW4. From how she frames it in her mind, she's either actively blocking out the thought or was unaware they have a physical relationship.“My deepest apologies. But please prepare yourself, madam.”
“No problems. Don’t worry about me. You carry out your task. Not the orders Kiritsugu gave, but act on the things you think are necessary.”
“Yes.”
Come to think of it, perhaps she had already suspected. That was why she was afraid to confirm it.
Now, Irisviel understood. The reason why she’s been avoiding Maiya… was not that she was afraid of her, but she was afraid to know her heart.
She was afraid of the truth that she “wasn’t the only woman who cares about Emiya Kiritsugu”.
Irisviel cannot help but to laugh in the exultation that came with the approaching deathmatch. Pulling out her Calico submachine gun, Maiya gave her a glance of surprise.
“– What’s the matter?”
“The human heart is truly an amazing thing.”
Gambling her life for Kiritsugu – the fact that there is another woman with such determination other than herself.
Clearly, the answer is supposed to be shocking. However, now – such a truth made her feel infinitely at ease.

Kind of reminds me of those sad trophy wives who know their rich husbands have tons of mistresses but drown out all negative thoughts with cheap gin
It's basically autohypnosis, a thing that appears a bunch in Nasu, and Gen uses it in this sort of surprising way characteristic to him. 'If I do this I'll be an asshole and be able to do different asshole thing even though I don't feel like being an asshole in this manner at all'. Same reason he started eating junk food before the war, to lower himself in his mind.
If anything Irisviel's personality is under fire here, because she doesn't know why he's doing it and doesn't act out, which she really should. Makes her seem less human if you ask me.
Or, well, I guess I at least like the absolute minimum human temperament necessary in my characters.
I don’t know if it’s just the translation but it’s a little messed up that it seems like Iri’s biggest problem isn’t that Kiritsugu is cheating but that another woman could love him lol
Like, if he was just banging cheap floozies that’s okay? I dunno man

Well I guess that’s one of the reasons it’s messed up to date a 9 year old tbqh
homunculus mental and body development are not exactly comparable to that of humans, point in case: sieg.
Spoiler:
yes the thing that gets compared to a baby is a shining example of maturity
I don't think we should have beasts as playable servants because it reduces the impact that they have as big civilization cancers.
Also I think that it's hard to get a feel for Divine Spirits more now with all the watered down servant god characters that aren't really the divine spirits in power or personality.
