'If I do this I'll be an asshole and be able to do different asshole thing even though I don't feel like being an asshole in this manner at all'. Same reason he started eating junk food before the war, to lower himself in his mind.
If anything Irisviel's personality is under fire here, because she doesn't know why he's doing it and doesn't act out, which she really should. Makes her seem less human if you ask me.
Or, well, I guess I at least like the absolute minimum human temperament necessary in my characters.

I don't think we should have beasts as playable servants because it reduces the impact that they have as big civilization cancers.
Also I think that it's hard to get a feel for Divine Spirits more now with all the watered down servant god characters that aren't really the divine spirits in power or personality.
