Every numbered main game are unrelated.
The only similarities between FFs (that aren't explicit sequels or crossover works like Dissidia or Brave Exvius) are in naming. The Cid in FFVII is not the Cid in FFX is not the Cid in FFXIV. Ifrit and Shiva are not the same entity or even same type of being. The Cure spell/materia/conjury doesn't work the same way despite doing the same thing.

I think it’s an unpopular opinion since a lot of people seem to think Ciel’s redesign is the best of the bunch and perhaps even an improvement, but I don’t think it works for her. It’s a cute design and all but I’m annoyed that Ciel’s remake look is literally just a blue colored Mash who visited a slightly better barber. When she strips to her combat dress she’s seriously just gonna look like Mash switched to gunner.

Which is why I’m only now starting to have this problem. While Tsukihime has been napping, Mash has already become a prolific character and a type moon icon, while nuCiel technically doesn’t even exist yet. There’s still time Takeuchi. We can still go back.

Some of the redesigns don't even really look like redesigns at all, but the same character sprite updated and with correct coloring (Akiha & the maid sisters).
