Synopsis is, humanity has been destroyed by an unknown virus that kills everybody over 13 years old. Vampires started coming out from underground at the same time to gather up all the left over humans to use as livestock. The main character, who now has been living as livestock for four years, fantasizes the day where he could kill the vampires enslaving him.

To say any more would be spoiling the surprises of the first chapter.

AKA the most popular manga in Jump Square currently that has been eating all of the goddamn color pages and covers since it started coming out. It is written by the writer of Legend of the Legendary Heroes/DDYD. The artist did Kurenai (for both the manga and the light novel). And he's amazing in this.

The writer is also writing a light novel series while doing the manga. Its a prequel series that takes place about 8 years before the main one and is about Glen (aka Alex fucking Rowe).

I realized when I was posting this in the 'What are you reading thread' that this should've gotten its own thread because of its upcoming popularity.

19 out (20 in like 5 days <3). But only 13 are translated. 4 were translated withing the last week or so.

Eh, kinda. I'd argue its pretty close to DDYD (you gotta remember just how fucked up a lot of the characters were in DDYD's setting lol) if there were just a lot of monsters roaming about and less adventuring.

Actually, screw that. Imagine an SMT Law vs Chaos scenario. Except you'd only understand this after getting into the manga.

I considered making a thread for this but there was still a possibility that the scanlation project was or was soon to be dropped at the time. Guess I'll have to catch up if they've started up again. Disappointed that the main character's weapon is SWORD! again when he almost got an axe instead. Would it be too much to ask for a cool weapon like a spear or something? Swords are fairly niche in terms of actual use but you would never know that if fantasy literature was the only thing you had as a source.

I'm liking it, it's a pretty cool series with cool characters. I like the imperial demon army group, but on the side of the vampires, Felid is quite entertaining, but I like Kururu and Mich the most.
... I may be biased for the latter two because of the totally Vampire Princess x Enthralled Boytoy vibes they have, but yes.

Yuu may be focused on revenge but I actually find his personality surprisingly well rounded? He understands that his family from the orphanage wouldn't want him doing something as self-destructive as seeking revenge, but he feels he has to do it for himself. But he understands the importance of the present, and has his heart in the right place, even if he isn't always honest about those things where it concerns himself.

It probably feels like a nice change of pace from the more common place completely pathetic and weak willed protagonists we've been getting recently.

Anyway, it really does have a strong Shin Megami Tensei vibe so I see what Cruor is talking about.

My only complaint is that they need to give the characters more interesting ability sets. It's vampires versus demon weapons and the most spectacular thing we've seen is long range sword swipes. At the very least if he's going to go more vanilla we could have fun high octane martial arts/swordplay breakdowns with move by move explanations of what is happening. Basically anything other than "And than the main character moved so fast he cut the vampire from behind before he realized what's happening" again without any thought given as to where he was earlier.

Personally, I got more of a Blue Exorcist meets Witch Hunter vibe (except replace witches with vampires).

However, the outfit worn by the Japanese Imperial Demon Army is totally the same thing Raidou Kuzunoha wears. That, and the involvement of malicious angels is the only SMT thing I'm getting off of reading it.

I thought it was based off of a Japanese school uniform; the gakuran, and the hat is pretty similar. Pretty sure students wore that back in the day in Japan.

Nah, Japanese Imperial Army Uniforms actually did look like that.

But yeah, Japanese School hats did kinda look like Raido/Yuu's hat but the uniform is clearly this except black.
