Recently found out this series and I like it. It shows that you shouldn’t underestimate anyone and that typical fantasy decisions like just driving the monsters have some consequences.
GS is also interesting because he is clearly driven by vengeance but despite what people claim he hasn’t gone full edgy mode since he is willing to accept help. He is just so focused on his task that his social skills suffer as a result which makes hil unique and interesting.

And yeah there were some Fate comparaisons. Beyond the red haired Lancer I thought GS has some similarities to Berserkalot : both hide their face behing a helmet that only shows a red ghastly eye, they can use multiple weapons and I can totally imagine GS screaming GOBLIIIIIINS if he was a Berserker.
Although he is much more fitting to be an Avenger.

I, surprisingly to me, like this series. I've read all the translated light novels, the manga, and the Year One manga in that order. I like the art, the story, and just reading about Goblin Slayer killing goblins. But what I don't like is how people online are mocking people for being shocked about the show. There is some horrible stuff that happens, of course people will disgusted by it. I still am plenty of times.

GS defenders' mockery of people shocked and disturbed is because of all the insults thrown alongside the criticism at the GS fans. "Edgelords". "rape culture", "fascists", a lot of insults have been thrown at GS fans
It's one thing to dislike the show. But don't insult those who do. Don't blame GS fans for reacting like they did when it was the people complaining and shocked who started throwing insults and not respecting others.

I don't mind dark material (see Made In Abyss for an example of a deeply dark and messed up fantasy setting handled in a fascinatingly imaginative way), but Goblin Slayer just seems boring from what I've heard. Does it have any appeal other than "generic fantasy setting no. xxx BUT EDGY"? The incredibly tacky use of rape as shock material isn't so much a cause as a symptom of the show's lack of originality in my mind.

I wouldn't say anyone's a bad person for enjoying it or anything (after all, I'm following and enjoying Killing Bites, so I can't exactly maintain myself as some paragon of good taste), but I can definitely see why it's criticized so much.

I haven't read the source material but I heard the anime has cut a concerning amount out already? That could just be typical fandom doomsaying though.

It's a bit on the grittier side of things than what usually interest me, but I'm hooked for now.

Yeah, there have been cuts, but nothing too unexpected out of adaptation stuff.

My impression is that they wanna get to the farm, which would mean that there'd be a quick pace, so, go figure.

Goblin Slayer being treated as a wildlife documentary and only paying attention to the background noise for how much relevancy it has with goblin slaying is the only correct way of watching.
