I didn't even realize that it was just Fantasy Death Wish. Only goblins instead of inner city minorities.

I did like the I Am Legend bit where he states that he's the horror in the dark for the goblins. Only there's no sympathy for the goblins and no regret on his end. Which is sort of the point of those kind of statements.

This anime is good, but I would recommend reading the manga if you're interested in Goblin Slayer, as its exceptional art elevates a 7/10 LN (better than pretty much every modern isekai but still not mindblowing) to an 8/10 good old sex-and-violence-and-autism-filled romp. The anime, by comparison, probably won't break a 7/10, and is more likely to fall into 6/10 territory due to abridging the plot and having the ever-present anime problem of shoestring budgets and bad CG.

I sorta agree that for GS the CG is actually well-used specifically because it can make GS look a little mechanical, which fits. It does make me think of Love Live rigs at inopportune moments occasionally.

When you've watched and enjoyed Kemono Friends it's like touching the Root and becoming a True Magician, only instead of being able to wield Magic you become immune to being put off by bad CGI in anime on account of being exposed to and becoming one with some of the worst CGI in anime history.

GS defenders' mockery of people shocked and disturbed is because of all the insults thrown alongside the criticism at the GS fans. "Edgelords". "rape culture", "fascists", a lot of insults have been thrown at GS fans
It's one thing to dislike the show. But don't insult those who do. Don't blame GS fans for reacting like they did when it was the people complaining and shocked who started throwing insults and not respecting others.

I suppose both sides are at fault then.

I don't mind dark material (see Made In Abyss for an example of a deeply dark and messed up fantasy setting handled in a fascinatingly imaginative way), but Goblin Slayer just seems boring from what I've heard. Does it have any appeal other than "generic fantasy setting no. xxx BUT EDGY"? The incredibly tacky use of rape as shock material isn't so much a cause as a symptom of the show's lack of originality in my mind.

I wouldn't say anyone's a bad person for enjoying it or anything (after all, I'm following and enjoying Killing Bites, so I can't exactly maintain myself as some paragon of good taste), but I can definitely see why it's criticized so much.

I wouldn't say "BUT EDGY" part fit. Yes goblins are terrible irredeemable race who commit any every atrocity, but it's not really story about goblins.
It's about Goblin Slayer and his loveable "support group" going on adventures (mostly killing goblins, I can't denny) and show him world is still great beautiful place and if possible help him adjust better to society.

And yes it's generic fantasy, but that's because it's love letter to classic DnD. Where things aren't solved with some Godly cheats, but with honest abuse of mechanics skill and creativity.

It also has High Elf Archer(best grill, hands down) even if e erything else was total crap she would be enough to make it worth watching/reading. Fortunately crap it's not.
