Hey riddle me this - it was my impression that back when you initially started working on the wide mode that, in fullscreen, it would automatically adjust to any screen ratio between 16:9 and 4:3 rather than just forcing 16:9 all the time while said mode is enabled, like for the ever-more-popular 3:2 ratio laptop displays and such.

Am I wrong on this impression, was this something that got scrapped, or something that was planned for a future version?

It's supported, I just never added a switch for that lol.
(also never tested it on other ratios, but it should work)

One thing that I mentioned in the old thread is that I'm kind of annoyed that the wide mode and high quality are both controlled by the "patch_hd.xp3" rather than separate patch files for either function since it makes it more difficult to disable high quality graphics if you have a borked c++ 2015 installation (like I have on my HTPC) but still want wide mode.

Is there a particular reason it can't just be enabled by default for a future version? I mean, the current implementation only crops the background anyway, so anybody with a taller-than-16:9 display would actually be seeing more content rather than less and therefore I'm not really sure why anybody wouldn't want it.

    EDIT:
For fullscreen anyway, windowed would be a different story due to the presence of the taskbar and such.

Also it'd be really easy to test multiple fullscreen aspect ratios just by making a custom resolution.

Nevertheless, I'm kind of disappointed that it didn't make the cut for the public beta because now we won't be able to have feedback from a wide range of people (unless you specifically "barred it from public consumption" because it's untested?).

found an immediate bug as soon as you start the game on the menu....when you try and set low quality mode, it launches into the game instead of simply adjusting.

Shoulden't it atleast default to the menu as opposed to going back to the intro scene?

I'll need more context. Is this before or after prologue completion? Are you using the PS2 prologue menu if the former?

its before you do anything...i wanted to test this version so i erased my data and started up a new game...ps2 menu immediately starts up fine, but if you set the game to low quality mode, the game simply starts the prologue as the ps2 menu was not there

Speaking of starting and changing quality settings and what-not, I thought the ability to change said settings were going to be disabled during the TM logo in order to avoid the "technically-not-a-crash" situation?

Anyway, I did in fact have a legit crash during the hotsprings extra scene while I was fiddling around with various window size, quality, and display resolution and refresh rate settings, but I've been unable to reproduce the issue (though I'm not 100% sure exactly what I did to cause it - I did something like switch from low & normal @ fullscreen, to high, then to wide, and then it crashed):

    error

Okay so this seems to be a bug with the PS2 menu switch. When the game "restarts scene" as the function is referred to, after changing that setting, the fact that the PS2 menu is on isn't being recognized so it's starting up in the prologue as it would in the PC versions of FSN.

Can anyone hook me up with a 100% save file? I wanted to watch the OPs in their high quality glory.
Edit: I just found a bug while skipping through the text. The go to next option has a japanese prompt. Also the 'OK' is slightly misplaced I think.

Edit 2: Found another bug, the movie menu doesn't work for me. Clicking on the OP with the fullscreen playback option does nothing, while the inframe option just freezes the game. The VN was in wide aspect ratio, fullscreen mode. All patches are installed.

Hate to break it to you, but most of the versions included in the current version aren't actually the best they could be - in particular, improved quality to the OP videos is actually something planned for a future version.

Did any of the in-game OP video play, such as the one after the prologue? For in-game OPs, I don't suppose you get a result that looks like the following, do you?

Solution: make sure the Media Foundation MP4 and Microsoft DTV-DVD audio and video decoders are not disabled via Codec Tweak Tool (in fact, do not disable anything on either list unless you really know what you're doing!)

Elaborating before people assume there's been no increase in quality. The Openings currently in the patch are better looking than the previous ones. The previous ones were recorded off the Vita TV, these are direct rips from the mobile version. There's undoubtedly an increase in quality there.

Where things get complicated is Vita vs Mobile. At first glance, the mobile versions look better, for good reason, BUUUUT, if you look very carefully you will notice the mobile versions have more compression artifacts than the Vita versions, while the Vita versions have more cropping on the edges and overly darkened color correction done to them (because of how bright the Vita's LED is) that doesn't look good on PC screens.

I've had the HF Vita OP for a while (because funny enough, it's in Vita FHA, as they just replaced over Opening 1 and Opening 2 from RN with the FHA counterparts, leaving Opening 3 untouched), but I just managed to procure the Vita versions of the Fate and UBW openings (thanks Hintay), so at some point I'll do some color correcting to make the Vita versions of the UBW and HF OPs match the color grade of the Mobile versions (and the Blu Ray version of the Fate OP which of course has remained unchanged this whole time), and restore the lost frame edges.

TL;DR the OPs look better than they did in the last iteration, but will look EVEN BETTER in the next update.

Also the current version includes PS2 OPs that are basically taken as-is from the Blu-ray without much of any post-processing (save for cropping).

Normally this would sound like a good thing, but the PS2 OPs seemed to have been upscaled using bilinear or some other sub-par blurry upscaling method and therefore really could use some sharpening filters or the like.

I may be OCD, but as I said to you previously, even I'm not that OCD - it's literally like 4 pixels on the right and left side.

Well I have waited for a few years for this patch, more time doesn't really hurt that much.

As for the OPs not playing, I am running a new windows installation, so I don't think anything is disabled. I downloaded the tool and checked just for good measure and everything looks fine. Also I was skipping through everything at that time so I don't even know if it showed a white screen. I'll try to replay that scene to check that.

Another thing I noticed is that I no longer need to change my locale to play. Was this an intended change?

Well then I'll own up being more OCD than you on that. That bugs the shit out of me so.

It might be due to my history with CRTs (including TVs), so I'm used to videos having a little bit of overscan - especially since I always adjusted the size of my CRT monitors to be all the way to the edge so that there's no window boxing at all (and, as we all remember back in the day, it's windowboxing that I'm super-OCD about).

It just occurred to me that renaming the installer and uninstaller and putting them in the root folder will cause the uninstaller to both not be copied over and no work from the uninstall programs menu because it's address will be wrong in the registry. Will fix when my head is clear.
