Prologue – A Wizard Did It

DISCLAIMER: Lunar Legend Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night, and all related characters and concepts are the creation and property of Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON, along with whomever they’ve happened to license them to, such as Geneon, Funimation, A-1 Pictures and Netflix.

    This is a not-for-profit, just-for-fun project.

    Century Hotel, Misaki City
    “Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya” Universe

Disgusted, Zelretch stopped the DVD. Really, he’d had such high hopes for this; how often did he get the chance to view a parallel reality without using Kaleidoscope? And it had such potential: the scale, the ideas, some of the characters—but only some of them, sadly.

And that was without going into the way the mediocre storytelling couldn’t seem to decide who the protagonist even was . . .

Mordred was the “Saberface” of the series, therefore tradition dictated it ought to be her; and failing that, that Caules kid looked like the “typical” protagonist—going by his ex-apprentices’ choice in students, anyway. And instead . . . Honestly, even for a homunculus, that “Sieg” kid had less personality than a brick wall, and the way the plot kept giving him improbable abilities at the last second—

(An inner chuckle almost bubbled out of his chest at the irony and hypocrisy of that thought, being who he was and what he was considering, but Zelretch manfully suppressed it.)

Fan fiction is supposed to be free, and more importantly, it's not supposed to be transformed into a big-budget anime series,” the ancient vampire grumbled, making a mental note to himself to figure out something amusing to the original scenario writer.

He couldn’t interfere in that world easily or very often—spoilers being the least of the problems involved—but a source of this much annoyance really warranted some personal attention.

“Honestly,” he muttered to himself, “I could’ve done a better—”

Zelretch paused, his inner “IDEA!” light springing to life.

“Hm . . .” Diving into the Kaleidoscope was one option, but the faster way, since he was already set up in this nice suite and didn’t want to move, was—there.

According to the Moon Cell’s database, it had a “dead-end” timeline about to go under quantum lock; no one would miss it if he messed up a little—

(Why yes, Zelretch did have administrator access; he may not have built the thing, but he’d dealt with it often enough over the span of centuries and the breadth of possibilities to wrangle that much out of it.)

. . . Huh. It looked like the source of the “bad end” in that particular timeline was actually some form of trans-universal incursion, which was the sort of thing he should probably do something about anyway . . . Ah, well; two birds, one stone, and all that, right?

Speaking of which, didn’t his current apprentice’s little crush have a “save-the-world” organisation? And she did need a bit more seasoning—couldn’t have her getting too comfortable on her laurels, after all . . .

Several universes away, a particular iteration of Rin Tohsaka suddenly got the most awful chill down her spine.

All he had to do, Zelretch figured, was tell the Clock Tower of that world that he’d take over responding to Yggdmillennia’s challenge. They’d hardly gainsay him after losing almost fifty Enforcers—and besides, if they were supposed to be the Red Faction, it was only logical that they’d be his choices, right? Right!

So, who could he bribe—ah, “convince”—to join the team? And what sort of fun could he have, in terms of choosing catalysts for them . . .?

    Clock Tower
    An Apocryphal Universe

The gathered Lords of the Clock Tower stared at the pages displayed on the table before them. These had been handed to them by the sole surviving Enforcer of the group dispatched to Romania, to put down the secession declared by the Yggdmillennia family.

There were two pages, specifically. The first was from Yggdmillennia themselves, declaring their intention to wage a “Grand Holy Grail War,” and an invitation for seven magi of the Association to serve as opposing Masters in the conflict—if they so dared.

The second page, the Enforcer had assured them, had not been put into the envelope when the message had been completed, sealed, and handed to him. The man had unquestionably been driven at least half-mad by the sudden and brutal slaughter of so many of his comrades, to say nothing of terror for his own life, but was absolutely insistent on this point.

    It read:

    Don’t worry, I’m handling it! 

    Z.

It was truly difficult to say which missive upset them more.

In the end, however, it was officially decided to let things proceed as the Wizard Marshall wished—and to be silently grateful that someone else was the focus of his attention, for once.

Unofficially, however, more than one of them would’ve liked access to a remote viewing device and some popcorn; Zelretch’s pranks tended to be hilarious to anyone not his target.

    Cafe Ahnenerbe
    Grail Works Universe

Despite its Japanese location, the coffee shop was done in a Western style, with more than a few touches that Rin recognised as being German, having spent the time she had with Ilya. It wasn’t that that made her nervous about it; it was who had made her the appointment to meet here.

There were, it had to be admitted, some serious perks to being the acknowledged apprentice of the Wizard Marshal; she had access to the Clock Tower’s resources without necessarily being answerable to them. Oh, she was expected to display the same discipline as any other student—even for fear of Zelretch, the Clock Tower’s administration was only willing to bend so far—but in terms of oversight, or responsibility to their rules, she had a remarkable amount of latitude. That same latitude, however, came with other costs. Not least among them being the storied history of how Zelretch treated his apprentices.

Magi in general were ruthless, amoral beings—but when one was a centuries-old Dead Apostle with access to the Second Magic and a low boredom threshold that description took on entirely new depths.

(The less said about that overblown glitter pen, for example, the better, so far as Rin was concerned.)

And, as if in proof of that description, Zelretch chose that precise moment to appear. Literally—one instant the seat in front of her was empty, and the next, a grinning old man with wine-red eyes was staring at her.

Boo!” the ancient vampire snapped as he materialised, and Rin would forever deny her shriek of reactionary panic.

It took her several moments to calm her racing heart; however, this was not a bad thing—it also gave her several minutes to bite back her instinctive responses to his “prank,” which her rationality insisted would not end well for her.

“. . . Hello, Master Schweinorg,” she finally ground out.

The Dead Apostle chuckled. “Such a disappointing face you’re giving me, Rin-chan . . . But, never fear; I’ll get a reaction out of you yet.”

Rin was a magus, and to be a magus was to walk with death. She had participated in a Holy Grail War ritual—she’d even fought and killed that monster that Ilya had called a Berserker—not, admittedly that it had done her much good . . . As such, however, she liked to reasonably consider herself made of relatively strong stuff. Not quite as literally possessed of “nerves of steel” as Shirou might be, but difficult to scare, and accustomed to dealing with fear when it did arise.

That statement, however, sent an entirely new degree of chill down her spine.

She covered her reaction with a sip of the tea she’d ordered, and was proud to note that her hand only trembled slightly when she set the cup down.

Subtly taking a deep breath, the young magus made an effort to keep her voice level as she asked, “What can I do for you, Master?”

Still grinning, the vampire’s eyes closed, and his voice became incongruously serious when contrasted with his expression.

“. . . It’s been some time since I took you as my apprentice, Rin-chan. It’s been nearly as long since your boyfriend started his pet project—”

“He’s not my boyfriend!” Rin sputtered reflexively, unsuccessfully willing her cheeks not to blush.

Even aside from the fearsomeness of his reputation, it said something about the force of Zelretch’s personality—and how he got that reputation—that merely opening his eyes a crack stopped her blustering rant before Rin even got warmed up.

“. . . That’s better,” he said. Still looking at her through that half-lidded gaze, like a sleepy lion that had not yet decided whether or not to attack, he continued, “Now, having had all this time, Rin-chan, have you noticed the incongruity?”

“You mean the lack of explanation for how the Grail, having been tainted in the Third War, and absolutely toxic in the Fourth, was free of any impurity by the time we got there?” Rin said acerbically. “It was kind of hard to miss . . . Which means, of course, that Shirou has no clue,” she added under her breath.

Zelretch grinned slightly wider. “Good. Observational skills and logic can be taught, of course, but it’s far less time-wasting if an apprentice has them already. So, have you come up with any reasons for it?”

Rin frowned. “Short of the contamination’s somehow flowing entirely into the Lesser Grail during the Fourth War—which would explain Sakura and the presence of Rider—not really. If the taint remained in the Greater Grail, it should’ve been present when we claimed it. But it was the Lesser Grail fragments from the previous War that displayed corruption. I suppose, if Angra Mainyu was sentient enough within the Grail, he might have flowed into the Lesser Grail of the Fourth War as the easiest way to manifest; it wouldn’t have done him any good, since the Lesser Grail would’ve merged with the Greater, but . . .”

    “But?” the vampire prompted.

“But why destroy the Greater Grail at all if that was the case?” Rin asked rhetorically. “It would’ve made more sense to destroy the Lesser Grail, then—and done a lot less in terms of collateral damage. And while a wish might not have been possible without the Greater Grail, my father’s notes indicate that sacrificing a seventh Servant would punch a hole through to the Root . . .”

“Emiya Kiritsugu was a more skilled magus than his son, but no less unconventional,” Zelretch said noncommittally.

Rin snorted, but managed to refrain from rolling her eyes. “It would be impossible for him to have been less skilled . . .” Returning to the subject at hand, she concluded, “But that aside, it doesn’t answer your question, does it, Master?”

“No,” Zelretch agreed. “It does not. But that question does lead into why I called you here today.”

Rin straightened, bracing herself for the worst.

“I have a test for you, apprentice—

    Here it came . . .

“Under my sponsorship, as of tomorrow, you’re going to participate in the Great Holy Grail War.”

    WHAT?!

It was only as she registered the stares of the serving staff that Rin realised she’d said that out loud . . .

Another Holy Grail War?” Shirou exclaimed in disbelief.

“Yes,” Rin affirmed, “and a really weird one, at that.”

She distributed the pamphlets Zelretch had given her for this purpose, which were entitled “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Great Holy Grail War.” Rin actually found it amusing that “Idiot” had been crossed out and replaced with “Shirou” scribbled above it, but she’d never tell Zelretch that.

Encouraging him, after all, could only lead to disaster.

“Huh,” said Ilya. “So I don’t exist at all, you’re some kind of martial arts magus, and Sakura . . .

An embarrassed squeak suddenly came from her sister’s place at the discussion (actually, the dining room) table, and a quick glance in her direction showed that the youngest among them was making a nearly-flawless attempt to imitate a cherry’s colouring to go with her name. Apparently, she’d found the accompanying pictures of her counterpart.

Personally, Rin couldn’t blame her for being mortified. In addition to possessing a nearly-Amazonian physique—even in that universe, Sakura wasn’t tall enough to truly qualify for the title—her analogue was covered in some form of body oil, as evidenced by the way her skin positively glistened under the lighting . . .

Rin considered, for a moment, what she should be angrier about. Was it the fact that Sakura was apparently an Edelfelt in that universe—judging by the “helpfully”-labelled picture of the drill-tailed blonde next to her—given their families’ history, and the efforts she’d undergone in regaining her sister? Or was it the fact that Shirou was trying not to stare at them both, with mixed success?

After said moment of consideration, she went with her default option: the latter, of course.

If we could get back on topic . . .?” the dark-haired magus said icily, fixing Shirou with her patented glare.

“In any case,” she continued. “Our altered lives mean that while my presence might not be questioned, Sakura showing up without Luvia would be. And your appearance might be even more problematic,” she added to Shirou, “because I’m apparently not the only Master already selected for this ‘Red Faction.’”

She tapped the page of the pamphlet which listed the Red Faction’s forces, in particular, one name:

Assassin of Red (True Identity: ???)

    Master: Kotomine Shirou

    Shirou choked. “KOTOMINE Shirou?!

“It might be a coincidence,” Rin admitted, “but I doubt it—this is the sort of prank the Old Man would pull, just to unsettle me. And having two of you around, likely with different Servants, would just cause far too many problems.” She sighed. “Our only saving grace is that apparently this ‘Ruler’ Servant is the Administrator for the Great Holy Grail War—if it was Kotomine again, I’d kill him first and damn the consequences.”

Shirou looked like he really wanted to argue—lethal options were never something he liked to resort to, and the purpose of the Works was to save people—but with a visible effort, he held his tongue. That, right there, was a mark of how much Kirei Kotomine had infuriated him, Rin decided—or how well Shirou was taking to being housebroken. Either was a good sign, in her opinion.

“So if one or more of us tagging along as ‘extra’ Masters is out,” the redhead said instead, “we can still send Saber or Rider along with you, right? Or have one of them hiding in the background, at least?”

This time it was Ilya who shook her head. “If they’re defeated, they’ll be absorbed by the Grail system—it’s the one dimensional effect I can’t protect them against, because it’s part of what allows them to be here in the first place. And since the local Grail will be closer . . .”

Shirou scowled. “Damn it! There has to be something else we can do, besides just sending you off on your own!”

“I can do reconnaissance,” Ilya volunteered. “In theory, I should be able to know all that the local Grail does about the state of the War—Servant and Master identities, locations, who’s been defeated. . .”

“. . . That’s something, I suppose,” the redhead grumbled. “But it still doesn’t feel like enough.”

“. . . Well, there is at least one other Master candidate around,” Rin allowed, turning to Ilya. “That is, if you’ve managed to locate Kurai?”

The druid didn’t have Magic Circuits, being from an entirely foreign paradigm—and one closer to the Age of the Gods, at that—but he was still a potential source of prana for a Servant. And a massive one, at that; on the Servant scale, he was close to B-ranked. That was even leaving aside his not-inconsiderable physical skills, and other supernatural abilities. He could be a great help, admittedly; even just his ability to shape-shift would be invaluable, allowing him to gather information and largely manage to pass himself off as her familiar . . .

. . . Of course, that was if he was even still alive, after what had happened in Spira.

Ilya sighed. “No. There’s no sign of the druid, or his original persona, anywhere on Spira. If he died, then he probably got recycled by the Root—assuming that he’s subject to universe’s metaphysical laws at all, and not claimed by Spira’s afterlife, the afterlife of the Dungeons and Dragons world, or his own, instead. But since I felt the enchantment binding the character to the player break, I still think there’s a chance he’s alive . . . But unless or until he contacts us, there’s no way to confirm that.”

“So, basically, we’re waiting for him to walk through a Door?” Shirou asked, obviously exasperated. Not that Rin blamed Shirou for his frustration—with as much as the redhead “wore his heart on his sleeve,” as the Westerners said, it was easy to understand why.

Kurai was the first person the Works had helped, and he’d stayed on partly because he’d felt he owed them for that. The druid had been the logical choice to send to Spira—he knew the world, the environment, the players and the threats—and to be completely honest, he’d succeeded far beyond anyone’s expectations.

Spira had been saved from Sin, permanently. That had been the task, and while there’d been more than a few unexpected complications, it had been fulfilled. But in the process, Kurai had also managed to ensure that entirely new races had also been saved in the process, from what Ilya had discovered—and from worse than “mere” extinction, at that: from being entirely unmade from existence.

It was the sort of choice that Shirou would’ve made without hesitation—and still might make. Rin hoped that being on the receiving end, for once, made him reconsider that.

“I’m afraid so, Onii-chan,” the Grail spirit confirmed apologetically, glancing at Rin in commiseration. After all, she might playact at childishness, and be naïve about living in general, but Ilya wasn’t an idiot, and she knew her brother—she knew what was bothering him, too.

“It’s the only way we’ll find him,” Ilya continued, “Short of his doing something big that we can track—like, say, summoning a Servant. And since the original person that became Kurai wasn’t at all magical, that’s just not going to happen.”

    Arvandor
The Olympian Glades of Arborea, the Outer Planes
    Roughly an hour ago

The Seldarine gathered, to wield their powers as they had not for dozens of millennia, though they were mere shadows of what they’d once been. They gathered, to heal a world, to lay a foundation for that world’s future . . . And in so doing, save a race of their children that, until recently, had been thought long since lost: the Ssri-Tel’Quessir, the dark elves who had become the drow, redeemed by sacrifice to become dark elves once more.

Unfortunately, that “race” represented a very small fraction of the drow; most of them remained corrupted by the demonic blood that had created them, to say nothing of the influence of their goddess, Lloth the Spider Queen. As such, they were at terrible risk—Lloth had never been one to take challenges to her rule over the drow lightly, and the Ssri-Tel’Quessir had earned her wrath when they had been drow elves, merely by worshipping her daughter, Eilistraee, over herself. That they had now disassociated themselves from the drow—and thus, from her—entirely . . .

No, Lloth would see that as an insult she could never bear. She—and by extension, her followers—would not stop until all traces of the Ssri-Tel’Quessir’s very existence had been utterly eliminated from the face of Aber-Toril. And that was not a fate that Corellon Larethian was prepared to countenance. Not in his role as leader of the Seldarine, the gods of the elven peoples, and not in his role as the Father of All Elves . . . Nor would he tolerate it as Eilistraee’s father, either.

His brilliant, beautiful daughter was gone—a great and terrible loss to a mortal elf, much less an immortal one. All that remained of her were the elves she’d sacrificed herself to save. He would not allow them to fall before Lloth’s evil.

Labelas Enorath knew this, of course. The Lord of the Continuum was, if not omniscient, as close to it as any god could truly claim to be. He had to be: the realms of fate, time and history were his to shepherd. He knew more of the future, and the secret workings behind it, than even Corellon himself—it was why he had allowed the solar to respond to the summons of a mortal, and grant the wish that mortal made. Because he knew what would have been the fate of the dark elves, without that wish . . .

“. . . You’ve gone to a great deal of trouble to arrange this, Labelas,” Corellon remarked. “Are we now to find out why?

The scholar winced. He had thought he was being rather subtle, actually—he had to be, as he was working in realms normally forbidden even to deities . . . Or at least, deities of his level. It was normally restricted to Lord Ao alone; thus, he’d had to be exceedingly careful in his actions, lest he draw the Overgod’s attention—or worse, alert others to the existence of the path he’d used to reach those places. Only chaos could come from that . . .

“I merely sought to fulfill my duties as a member of the Seldarine, Lord Coronal, and protect a tribe of the mortals we oversee,” Labelas replied lightly. “That they are a tribe previously lost to the memory of any mortal living, and barely recalled even in history, made it a duty I thought required any and all efforts I could exert.”

And because, the god did not add, very soon now, as elves and immortals would reckon such things, the great upheavals that had plagued their world would culminate in a truly mighty cataclysm. And in response to that chaos, Lord Ao, the Overgod, would rewrite the very Tablets of Fate, changing the history and very nature of the Seldarine, but restoring the Realms to much as they had been before. Dead deities, including Eilistraee, would be restored to life; and the Dark Maiden would take up her work of attempting to redeem the drow once more—because the dark elves which had already been restored would cease to be, in any significant fashion.

The drow would be all that remained of them once more.

His task was to ensure that history was neither forgotten, nor altered. Labelas would not have stopped the Overgod from performing the act he would, even if he had possessed the power to do so . . . But neither did he wish for such a momentous event as the restoration of the true dark elves (as opposed to the drow, who were often referred to by that name) to be lost. It was an impossible dilemma, even for a god . . .

And in confronting it, he had discovered the existence of a Door—and what lay beyond it.

The mortals there were not yet prepared to deal with the scale of the problem that lay before him; not in the time which remained. But through them, he might be able to allow someone who was to act. And so, Labelas had sought a cat’s-paw, and made his transgressions—and the result had been everything he could have hoped.

“It is a truly beautiful world,” remarked Deep Sashelas—and as a god of beauty, as well as knowledge, magic, and the sea, he ought to know. “Perhaps the Alu-Tel’Quessir could benefit from it, as well?”

Labelas nodded. The sea elves were, in their way, as isolated from most elves as the dark elves would be, should they be returned to Toril. While they had no love for the drow, they had less history of conflict with them, as well; and as the world of Spira was mostly oceanic, such a world potentially offered them vast new territories, away from their traditional enemies. Likewise, they too would be less affected by the coming cataclysm—though not unscathed—and have less effect on it. Entire tribes of them could disappear, and not be missed in the histories—mostly because they would disappear, anyway.

“. . . Do you truly intend to kill the mortal, Lord Coronal?” inquired a feminine voice, and hearing it drew all male attention towards its source.

Hanali Celanil was the goddess of love and beauty among elves—their answer to the humans’ Sune Firehair, and a rival of Aphrodite, on the rare occasions when the Seldarine and the Olympians contested with one another. Her most common features, as now, were those of a sun elf: golden hair and eyes alongside porcelain-delicate features. She paired these with a body built to draw the eye, as her voice drew the ear—though she was not above taking other appearances, where and when she deemed it necessary; or simply for fun. She would hardly be the goddess of desire, otherwise.

Labelas coughed lightly. “He hardly seems your type, Hanali.”

The frown that crossed her features somehow failed to mar them in the slightest as she shot back, “He isn’t . . . Well, that half-elven aspect is kind of attractive, in a rugged sort of way—but there’s a human under it, and he’s not pretty at all.

“Does he have a lover, then? Or perhaps he possesses some especial talent for artisanship?”

She snorted delicately, her expression answer enough.

Now it was Corellon’s turn to frown, as he understood the point Labelas was making. “Then what is your interest, Hanali? Gentle though you are, it’s unusual for you to be so concerned over the fate of a mortal—and a human, at that.”

“I’m concerned because he does love,” she answered. “That is at the core of this: that he is willing to die because he loved Eilistraee, in his fashion, as he loves all elves.” She shrugged. “It’s not romantic love, really—little more than the wondrous fascination we evoke in humanity. To some extent, that’s also true of Spira itself, and of those people he works for . . . But given the service that he’s performing for us in its name, I would find his death to be a poor repayment of that love.”

“So long as his resolve holds,” Corellon replied, “it should not be necessary; ’twould hardly be a worthy test, otherwise. But the question would then remain, of what to do with him afterwards . . .

“Toril is no place for him,” Labelas said firmly. Had any of the other gods—even his fellows among the Seldarine—known even half of the sort of knowledge that was in that mortal’s head, or even just known of it . . .

Toril would not survive the ensuing conflicts.

“Nor, I fear, would consigning him to Spira do our cause any favours,” he forestalled the next obvious choice, not unkindly. “Should the truth of his nature be revealed, it would undo all the groundwork laid for the Ssri-Tel’Quessir . . . And in truth,” he added, doing his best to sound off-handed, “he does not fit well with his compatriots, either. He is no more of their world than ours, and the differences, though often subtle, leave him somewhat adrift.”

Hanali smiled, and it brightened the whole of the glade. “Then perhaps we can change at least that?” She turned to a fellow goddess. “Sehanine, what would you say to the idea of trying to catch his spirit for a little reincarnation . . .?”

The moon goddess raised an eyebrow in response, her expression intrigued.

Labelas very carefully kept his own expression blank. From here, things became very delicate . . . But, handled carefully, it would place the mortal safely away from Toril and its associated planes—for a certain value of safe, at least. Moreover, it would return the mortal to his people and his work, which was best for all concerned.

All that aside, however, he had to admit to some amusement about what was about to happen.

After all, in all his tens of millennia of life, he’d never had the opportunity to meddle before—and it always seemed to be so much fun . . .

    A Servant Universe far, far away . . .

“. . . It seems, coincidentally, that you were on the same wavelength as someone else’s mind. They would appear to be a mage. But we are headed to a battlefield. Information leaks and unknown elements cannot be permitted. I’m going to remove the source of the problem.

“Maybe you’re still listening to my words through this Black Knight as a vessel. If you are . . . I would like to say goodbye. Having someone listen to me when I needed it . . . I think that was nice. When I succeed, and make a name for myself as a Servant, maybe we can talk like this again. When that time comes . . .

“No, that’s just wishful thinking. She and my deceased Master would both laugh at the thought.

"See you. Whoever you are, from a Servant Universe far, far away . . . May the Alternium be with you, always . . .”

    En route towards Trifas, Romania
    July 1, 2004

He started awake after that, his heart pounding and thoughts racing.

What the hell did I eat that had me dreaming of a mashup of “Star Wars” and Saber A—

His eyes widened in sudden realisation.

    . . . Awww, SHIT!

Spending several seconds cursing silently in every language he knew (which was quite a few more than he previously recalled), he unbuckled his seatbelt and made his way to the back of the plane, before locking himself in a vacant bathroom stall and staring at himself in the mirror.

And it was himself, more or less. Not simply because his memories insisted that it was, but because it more or less matched what he’d looked as a human, prior to getting cursed into his half-drow druid character—though admittedly, minus about fifteen to twenty years of aging and plus about fifteen to twenty kilos of muscle.

And going back to the aforementioned memories . . .

Leaving aside the newfound (or perhaps, merely newly-awakened?) part of him that insisted he was a TYPE-MOON fan and general failure in life who had briefly become something more, his current sense of self-identity insisted that he was a magus by the name of “Godafrid Úa Súilleabháin.” To perhaps no one’s surprise, he often went by “Frid,” or answered to “Sully” among friends, rather than hear people butcher the pronunciation, saving the full name for formal or legal occasions.

The truly sad part, to that new source of memories, was that this was a perfect fit for the Nasuverse’s terrible habit of mangled-if-not-utterly-ridiculous “names” when it came to foreign-born characters; it also happened to be the Old Irish pronunciation of his actual name. He’d used it before, for certain D&D characters . . .

Didn’t matter—what did was getting back to the Works . . . Assuming that wasn’t part of the dream, anyway.

If it was, would the part of me I think of as “me” still be insisting that I was in a fictional universe?

. . . He hated it when he made sense like that.

Taking a deep breath, he spoke, seemingly to the air.

    “Ilya-chan, if you’re listening, I could really use a Door . . .”

To his immense disappointment, exiting the bathroom revealed the aisle of the plane, not the foyer of Avalon Castle.

Resigning himself to being stuck here for the foreseeable future (if not his entire life), he made his way back to his seat, and began organising his thoughts and memories.

All right, for the moment, I’m stuck in the TYPE-MOON universe—or one of them, at any rate—being “Frid,” who is . . . A freelancer magus?

That was both good and bad. Good, in that confirmed the existence of magecraft, and ruled out the “EXTRA/Extella” incarnation of the universe; given his history with technology, getting involved with the VR simulation of a supercomputer on the Moon just sounded like a ludicrously bad idea.

With all due apologies to the Emperor of Roses, not even Nero’s presence could probably make up for the amount of things that would likely go wrong if I got involved in that mess . . .

It was also good in that being a “freelancer” magus implied some level of power and competency, since freelancers were basically mercenaries for hire—and as such, frequently in conflict with the Enforcers of the Magus Association and the Executors of the Holy Church. As for the bad . . . Well, the prior statement pretty much summed it up, really.

And since I am not nearly bad-ass enough to be Emiya Kiritsugu, or even Bazett Fraga McRemitz, I’d hope that Frid spends a lot of time avoiding conflict for a freelancer . . .

A check of his most recent memories seemed to confirm that, at least; his present “job” had sent him travelling through a few European historical sites. Nowhere major, though, in magecraft terms—heck, one of them was a bloody tourist attraction! It was practically a vacation, which was why he’d only charged his transport expenses for the job. Even then, only for the international stuff; if he’d needed to take a cab or a train “in-country,” he’d written it off, just like his hotel and meal costs.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have charged at all, considering it’s a favour for her little brother, but there was just no arguing with that “You’re not family yet” stance of—

Frid blinked, coming to several heart-attack-worthy realisations at once.

    First, he was apparently engaged.

Second, he was engaged to Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia.

And third, he was carrying “The Blueprints of Frankenstein!”, as he “recalled” jokingly referring to them.

Which meant that not only was he in the world of “Fate/Apocrypha” (and apparently deeply involved with some of the major characters, at that), the opening events of the Great Holy Grail War as he’d seen them were very much imminent—if not due to break out within hours of his arrival.

    “Oh, bloody hell . . .

Okay, I like the context you added in, Kieran. Nice work so far.

Thank you. I can't promise the next chapters will be as quick - this did involve a lot of cut-and-paste, so it was easy, relatively speaking - but we are making progress.

Chapter 2 - Olga Marie Animusphere's Wonderful, Magical Adventure!

Disclaimer: Just like Kieran, I don't own this stuff. I wish I DID, because Apocrypha looks more like bad fanfiction than a big budget TV show to me, as Kieran agrees. But I don't. Which is a real pity.

    2 PM:

It's rather cold outside today, I have to notice. I'd rather it really wasn't, but I was stupid and forgot my coat today while out on the grounds. Plus, it's more my legs than my upper body that's cold. Tch. Stupid leggings. Maybe I need to wear two pairs to stay warm? Ugh. Fleece lined or not, this isn't exactly pleasant. It may be PRETTY, but it's definitely not pleasant. Why can't we have heaters out HERE, too?

Ah, right! I'm writing in you, my trusty Diary! Mostly because if I don't write in you, I have this irritating tendency to monologue out loud while I'm thinking, and it's gotten rather irritating. Especially with the events of today!

So. I met this old guy with white hair today, and creeeepy red eyes! He said that him showing up would be "Our little secret" until I went off for my adventure as a Master! He also mentioned something about "Stacking the deck" so we'd have a better shot, but I don't really get that, all too well. He also mentioned meeting me a few years ago? I can't remember, though...

Oh well, it's likely not important! What I can say, though, is that I got this new friend, Sapphire! Can you write in here too, Sapphire?

    "Yes, I can!"

"Why are you saying that instead of writing it, Sapphire?"

"You have a death grip on me, Mistress!"

Oh. Oops. Well. My diary, let me present to you my first friend! Sapphire!

Ooh, ooh! This is neat! This is a hardback thing for writing your personal thoughts in! Nice to meet you, non-sentient leather bound book!

    "Non-sentient?"

"Yes, I was hoping it would be able to talk back!"

    "Aww. I wish it could."

"I could be your Diary, too, you know! So no one realizes I'm with you and all that?"

    Oh, that's a brilliant idea!

"Does that mean you could fuse with the book, or something?"

    "Certainly!"

Oh, right! Diary! The old man mentioned that because I would eventually get Sapphire, I would eventually Command Seals! Doesn't eventually mean really, really soon?

    "It does mean that, Mistress!"

"Ooh, that makes sense! Thank you, Sapphire!"

Oh, well. I need to go find a snack. Maybe I'll search for more information on summoning later! Especially heroes! I wonder if I could summon Santa...? Oh, oh! Then I could have presents EVERY DAY! I'm a genius! That means I need to find something to summon Santa, when I get them, right? Ooh, doesn't that mean that Santa could give me the gift of Victory, too?

"Yes you are, Mistress! That's terribly smart!"

Now, to sneak to the attic and find our Christmas things. I'm sure I can dodge the maids. I know I can! I just have to write in you, rather than talk! Definitely, nothing can go wrong with that!

    5 PM:

I failed. The Christmas stuff isn't in the attic. Apparently it's stored somewhere else, and under lock and key so little girls can't break all the expensive glass ornaments when they're not in use.

Hmph. Why can't they make it easy so I can summon Santa once I get those command seals?! I want all the christmas gifts, all year round!

Oh well, there's always plan B, right? I wonder if I can get something from Father's lab to help me? No. That's outright out. Daddy doesn't smile the way he used to, at me. He's still nice, but it's not the same as when I was younger.

I should go to dinner, and ask Daddy if I can get some history books. Maybe I can find a better hero to summon than Santa?

    8 PM:

Daddy wants me to study more with my tutors. Hmph. And again, I say hmph! I don't know why Daddy's wanting me to study history in general, I want to learn more about HEROES! The super neat ones!

But Daddy insists I'm to learn more than just about the heroes, but the way the heroes lead, and what caused them to fall. Maybe that's important, too?

Hmph. I'll show him. I'll show everyone how good I can be!

Ooh, the pie for dessert was glorious, though! Yay! Pie, pie, glorious pie! I thanked the chef for it myself, too! Just like a good noble lady should!

Just like Daddy says, "We always should respect the people working for us."!

Now, to hide you in my super secret hiding spot, along with Sapphire! Under my pillow! They'll never find you there! Never ever! So goodnight, until I write you in the morning!

    "Goodnight Mistress!"

    "Goodnight, Sapphire!"

    Friday, June 4th, 2004

    10 AM:

Ooh, ooh, it's Friday! And you know what day that is, right? An omelette for breakfast, day! That's what it is! Yes, my Diary, it's the tastiest breakfast of them all! Ahh, glorious eggs, with bacon and tasty cheese... how I love thee.

Oh, right! I asked about different heroes, and what sort of artifacts are still around involving them, to my first tutor. I learned a whole lot! It's rather quite fascinating! It seems that between my super secret hiding place, and you, though, no one's realized I have Sapphire! You're such a good listener, aren't you my diary? Yes you are, yes you are! Mostly because I know how to hide you well, but even still!

    "Are you ignoring me, Mistress?"

"No, just complimenting my Diary for being quiet about my secrets!"

"Aww, okay! Make sure to remember that I can fuse with it, and will keep your secrets just as well!"

"I will! I'm just so busy..."

"Ooh, right! A girl's work to be pretty is never done!"

"Right! And with all the things I have to learn to be a good leader when I grow up, it's tiring! Especially with Daddy not looking at me like he used to... but enough of that! Where was I on my train of thought? Oh, right!"

It looks like I have to summon without something involving a legendary hero. Apparently it means that whoever I summon will be like me the most?

Ooh, I'm running late! Time for horseback riding! I'll write more in you later!

"You know that I can keep better track of time for you than that, right Mistress?"

    "Yes, Sapphire. Sorry, Sapphire."

    3 PM:

Sapphire's been so helpful with teaching me neat things! Especially with how I'll be needing to set things up for the summoning, once I get the command seals!

    Hmm. Wait.

"Sapphire, could you tell me what I'd have to do to summon a servant?"

"Ooh, ooh! I know this! Let me etch it out in your Diary for you! Then you'll have to find someplace to hide and draw it out! Okay?"

Yay! I'm going to summon a servant!

Sapphire suddenly sounds a bit... irritated?

"It's going to hurt a bit, though. Sorry Mistress. You're going to have to cut yourself and add blood to the circle to make it work."

Aww. That's going to hurt, though! Wait, I don't want to scar up! Then I wouldn't be pretty!

"You won't scar from my method, you'll just hurt. Still, sorry in advance Mistress?"

"Oh it's... wait. You read my mind?"

"No, you were monologuing out loud instead of writing that last line in your diary. No worries though, no one noticed!"

Phew. Well, Diary! Off for adventures... once my tutoring is done!

    Sapphire, Diary, ahead we go!

    8 PM:

Oh, I'm tired. I did what Sapphire wanted me to do, and it resulted in everything glowing, then Sapphire turning into my Diary.

"Yes, Mistress. I've noticed that, considering you're writing on me. It's a secure form of information, and no one can read it unless I let them!"

Wait. Does that mean that you can alter things so I can't always read what I've written?

    "Erm. Ah. Um."

    Please tell me.

"Yes...? I don't want to, but my creator might ask me to in an emergency, if you have seen something you're not meant to. Things exist out there that cute magical girls aren't supposed to fight, and I'd rather not have you read something that inevitably tries to summon some eldritch thing that would make you go crazy to look at it. It happened once, with one of my previous contractors. It really, really wasn't a pleasant thing, and I don't like talking about it."

Oh. Well. Um... I suppose it's fine then if it would make me go crazy... wait! What am I writing! I'm an Animusphere! I shouldn't be able to go crazy at all! At the same time, I AM still pretty young...

Fine. You can do it, for now. But when I grow up, I expect that to change! No ifs, no ands, or buts!

    "Yes, Mistress!"

"Ow... my hand! Why is it..."

"Ooh, Mistress! Your hand is glowing with command seals! See?"

Ooh, pretty. It makes this neat looking C insignia! I'm not sure why, though.

"They're really powerful, so don't misuse them once you summon someone!"

    Saturday, June 5th, 2004

    7 AM:

I'm up early today! Mostly because I've been working with Sapphire to figure out all the sneaky things I'll have to do to be able to summon someone neat!

"Yes, Mistress, I remember... Ooh, right, Diary function! Sorry!"

It's okay, Sapphire! I'll work with you to summon soon enough! I'm just working out other things I'll need first. Like changes of clothing! Leggings are way too tight for girls, normally, after all.

"Can't you just use me to transform, and see how that looks?"

Sapphire, could you show me a picture of what I'd look like while transformed?

    "Sure!"

    Erm. Um. Sapphire?

    "Yes, Mistress?"

    It doesn't have a skirt.

    "No, unfortunately."

It doesn't seem to have anything waterproof, either.

"Ah! It's all enchanted leather lined with something really warm and comfortable! Well, that's what Zelretch says when I ask him about it. Something about 'Skinning that thing was too much trouble for it's worth, to make more outfits'..."

Eh? Skinning something? Oooh, right! Leather is made from Animals! Aww, but animals are cute!

"Not the ones he mentions, they aren't. They tend to be more in the 'Eat your face' category than 'snuggly cuddly things that are so fun to hug and love'."

Oooh. Okay! So this is supposed to be warm?

"Would you take being slightly cold in a few spots, and really powerful? Or warm, but weak, Mistress?"

Hmm... being warm is so nice, but... a few spots of being cold, in return for being super strong isn't too bad, I suppose.

Aww. I'm tired already. Hmph. I'll figure things out, though! Wait. No, it's because I haven't had morning tea yet! Time for breakfast! I wonder what I'll have for breakfast today? Maybe more eggs? Or some tasty french food?

    1:30 PM:

Huh. Daddy had to leave awfully fast today, from Lunch. Someone ran in, told him that they noticed oddities on Mars, and he had to go find out what's going on right away. It's interesting. It felt like that guy in green will kind of be important, too.

Lev, Daddy called him? Still, he had to run all the way to the mansion to meet Daddy. I feel sorry for him.

Still, today's a Saturday, so I don't have too much to do today! So I'll sneak out around the grounds, and figure out what I can do for a good hiding spot!

    2:30 PM:

Still no sign of a good hiding spot. Not in the trees, not in the mansion... ugh. Why did it always seem so big when I was doing stuff before, but so small, when I look around NOW? Wait... Sapphire? Could you tell me where a good spot might be?

"Oh, to your right, Mistress! That's a good spot! A little more for turning! There. Now 50 steps that way!"

It's... a blank wall, though, Sapphire.

    "Trust me, and walk through!"

    I trust you!

Huh! It wasn't a wall, but some sort of illusion? ...Wow. The mansion grounds are bigger than I thought they were. Much bigger. Wait. Why were they so small in the first place?

"Probably to make it easy for you to be found, Mistress!"

Hm. Well. Any good spots, Sapphire? It's so much bigger than I thought...

"See that corner, a bit to your left? Head there, behind those bushes. And try to not touch them. I think it might be poison ivy, and if they find you've been afflicted by that on your skin, they'll realize that you've found your way through the ward here."

Ah! Okay! Ooh, this is neat to look at, though! All these bushes and things...

Wow. It's a perfect spot for me, thank you Sapphire!

    3:30 PM

It takes a lot of time, and work, but with Sapphire's help, I've gotten everything drawn out specifically in the ground. All I have to do now, is act like a proper noble lady, and add my blood in!

"Don't worry, I have methods for helping you heal, Mistress! As I said, this is just going to be painful."

I nod, smile at Sapphire, then work.

The work leaves me exhausted, light headed, and slightly numb, when I finally fill the summoning circle thing with my blood. It's hard to think, but slowly gets easier as I recover from adding it in. Or is it Sapphire?

"Yes, it's me, Mistress. You're monologuing again."

Well, poo. I need to do better than this. Still... how do I summon, now?

    "Ooh, ooh! Repeat after me!"

I nod, trusting in Sapphire, and start repeating the words she has written.

"Let silver and metal be the essence.

Let the Kaleidostick and the archduke of contracts be the foundation.

Let red be the color I pay tribute to.

The alighted wind becomes a wall.

The gates in the four directions close, coming from the crown, the three-forked road that leads to the kingdom circulate.

    Shut (fill).

    Shut (fill).

    Shut (fill).

    Shut (fill).

    Shut (fill).

    Repeat every five times.

    Simply, shatter once filled.

Your self is under me, my fate and doom is in your weapon.

In accordance with the approach of the Greater Grail war, if you abide by this feeling, this reason, then answer.

Here is my oath. I am the one who becomes all the good of the world of the dead, I am who lays out all the evil of the world of the dead.

You, seven heavens clad in three words of power, arrive from the ring of deterrence, O keeper of the Balance!"

Light flares. I can't make out what is happening, but the entire circle is flaring with sheer, raw power.

I put one hand half in front of my eyes, trying to hold myself up, to look up, as power spirals into forming a body before me.

Pink hair. Metal armor, and... a massive shield.

"Servant Shielder has answered to your summons. Answer me, are you my... Director Olga?!"

    Eh? Director?

Hey, that has a nice ring to it!

"Yes, I am your Master, Olga Marie Animusphere! But feel free to call me Director!"

"Oh Sempai is just going to love THIS."

    "Fou!"

Eh? A dog is with her? No, not quite a dog. But close... it's so cute, it's so cute, it's so cute!

I can't help but hug it, and pet it. So cute and fluffy and adorable!

    "What?! Director?!"

. . . And for those of you confused - we named the story "Anarchy" with good reason.

We definitely have quite the cast list for this one. Do keep in mind that different people are starting at different dates, though, too.

Olga, in this case, is a rather lonely, curious child, right now, rather than the director she'll grow up to be.

So far, the cast list is as such, for you all:

    Godafrid summons ????
    Erik Ulricson summons ????
    Shirou Kotomine summons Semiramis
Olga Marie Animusphere summons Mash Kyrielight (And Fou! For reasons...)
    Rin Tohsaka summons ????
    ???? summons ????
    ???? summons ????

I'm posting this on both the story and discussion threads, to catch any readers who might frequent one but not the other, or both.

RanmaBushiko and I have undergone a number of revisions regarding the Servants of Red lineup (mostly but not entirely me), for one reason or another, and a question has arisen: Would any of you object to our using a fictional Servant, like Kojiro Sasaki, if we could adapt them to a class properly?

Admittedly, it's not essential, but it would broaden our options (not necessarily a good thing, I'll admit, given the trouble we're having now).

At the same time, however, I'm aware that we're already asking you all to stretch your suspension of disbelief a fair degree as it is, so I will understand perfectly if you'd prefer we not. It's just nice to know one way the other, before we commit to a course of action.

. . . Thank you for your time, attention, and (I hope) feedback. The next chapter(s) will hopefully not be too far away - but that's not contingent on our getting responses, I promise.

Chapter 3 – Stacking the Deck

DISCLAIMER: Lunar Legend Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night, and all related characters and concepts are the creation and property of Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON, along with whomever they’ve happened to license them to, such as Geneon, Funimation, A-1 Pictures and Netflix.

    This is a not-for-profit, just-for-fun project.

Rin sighed as she settled into the hotel room. She’d been raised to be frugal, but she had to admit, it was nice to splurge every once in a while . . .

Not that there was a whole lot to this hotel—it was a “bed-and-breakfast” inn, not a five-star chain hotel. But as foreign as it was, there was a sense of coziness that she had to admit she liked. There were heavy blankets were on the bed, thick, shaggy rugs on the floor; meals were served in a Western-style dining room, but in a home kitchen rather than the industrial sort that a larger hotel would use.

There was also a minimum of electronic record-keeping, which made it less likely her name would pop up on anyone’s radar. Most magi weren’t up-to-date on technological capabilities—Rin herself (grudgingly) included—but there were always outliers; the Magus Killer was simply the most blatant example. It was part of why she was based here, rather than in Trifas proper, where the Grail War was to take place.

The presence of a magus in Yggdmillennia territory at this point in time virtually screamed “Association/Master of Red,” after all.

Of course, just because Rin was out of their city, it hardly meant she was out of their sphere of influence. Given what Yggdmillennia was pulling, they’d want to put agents out to locate incoming magi, so they were aware of retaliatory strikes before they were literally on their front doorstep. Fortunately, she had a cheat available: access to a Holy Grail that was capable of detecting potential Masters over the range of its system, and the ability to communicate with her.

Ilya’s senses weren’t a perfect fix; not every potential Master was a magus, and vice versa—Rin knew that better than anyone, after all. But she still had a hell of a lot more warning than any other magus in town of any competitors’ presence, which was a comfort. Especially when she had no idea who the hell else Zelretch might’ve drafted into this thing . . .

    Kotomine Shirou.

Just thinking the name made her want to retch. Imagining what that bastard might have twisted Shirou into, given the blank slate he must have been when the Magus Killer found him . . . As distorted as the idiot was, at least there was something in him capable of caring. But if he’d been, not sacrificed like the rest of those poor children, but actually raised under Kirei . . .?

He would be a monster, walking around with her friend’s face (just a FRIEND!)—no more human than a Dead Apostle, Rin was sure, and less so than Zelretch.

The Servant class was enough of a tip-off, really; she knew that Kirei had been the Master of the Fourth War’s Assassin. That told her all she really needed to know about this analogue’s probable style, intentions, and personality. And according to the brief she’d been given, he was supposed to be the Church’s “official overseer”—which should raise alarms in itself, given the apparent existence in this War of a Heroic Spirit whose job was exactly that.

No, Rin was staying as far away from “Kotomine Shirou” as she could reasonably get. They might be listed as being in the same faction, but she was damned certain that they weren’t on the same side—and that there was something being plotted behind the scenes.

Really, Rin sympathised even more with Shirou’s frustration over not being able to do more with this. She was absolutely terrified—or she would be, if she let herself actually stop to think about what she was liable to be up against. Right now, her best hope was that Zelretch wasn’t selecting the members of this “Red Faction” solely for the purpose of screwing her over . . .

. . . And even that wasn’t her only hope.

None of the other Works personnel had actually asked, out loud, what Rin planned to do in regards to her Servant for this War. To summon a Servant, of course, one needed either high compatibility, or a catalyst, and preferably both—and for one Servant in particular, she did. A Servant she both cared about, and wanted to strangle; one that she could never trust around Shirou, or the Works, because he was liable to try and destroy one or both . . . But she could rely on him to come when she called.

And so, when she found an appropriately undisturbed space, and Ilya assured her she was unobserved, the Japanese magus got to work.

“For the elements: silver and iron.
The foundation: stone and the archduke of pacts,
And for my great master Schweinorg, let RED be the colour that I pay tribute to.

“Close the four gates, come forth from the crown,
And follow the forked road leading to the kingdom.
Fill, fill, fill, fill, fill—repeat five times, but when each is filled,
    Destroy it.

“Heed my words: my will creates your body, and your sword creates my destiny.
If you heed the Grail’s call, and obey my will and reason, then answer me!

    “I hereby swear that I shall be all the good in the world;
And that I shall defeat all evil in the world.
Seventh Heaven, clad in the Great Words of Power,
From the binding circle: thou, Guardian of the Scales!”

As expected, the blast of power erupted, forming into a familiar, red-clad shape—and as before, he smirked lazily at her before drawling, “My, my. Looks like I’ve—”

Shut it, EMIYA,” the magus hissed icily. “We’ve got too much work to do for your bullshit.

    Archer started, nonplused. “Huh?”

Rin adopted a smirk of her own, savouring the look on his face.

Anyone who noted the tension in Frid’s posture as he walked the halls of the castle Yggdmillennia had claimed as their home might’ve been forgiven for assuming that it had to do with the literal army of golems and homunculi that could be glimpsed gathering in various places around the grounds. In point of fact, the source of said tension was a lot simpler—and more complicated, all at once.

I’m ENGAGED?! How the HELL did THAT happen? I’ve dated exactly once in my entire life and that relationship crashed and burned spectacularly!

Again, most people would be forgiven for assuming that he would be freaking out over being at ground zero for the mystical death match about to start—and if he’d actually been a genuine, trained-from-birth magus, Frid probably would’ve been. There were two factors that prevented him from doing that, however.

First and foremost, Frid’s identity and life had been grafted onto a man who’d been literally months away from being eligible for the title role in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”; someone who’d given up on all possibility of something like this ever happening. And secondly, from what little Frid had been able to glean from memory about “his” life before waking up on that plane, he didn’t know about what Yggdmillennia planned to do.

And that, of course, meant that freaking out over something he shouldn’t actually be aware of would raise a nice, big warning flag to the clan of paranoid magi whose stronghold he was currently walking through—decked out in neon lights, no less.

So, better to focus on the freak-out topic that wasn’t liable to get him immediately killed and/or vivisected (one did not preclude the other), since, while he’d never seen evidence of it, mind-reading was apparently a thing that TYPE-MOON magi could do.

. . . Although, that was assuming that Saber wasn’t just being a jerk to Shirou, of course—or a mistranslation by the dubbing people. Still, better safe than strapped to a table; he seemed to recall that Astolfo’s Master had a thing for bondage dungeons . . .

“Seemed to recall”—honestly, that was part of the problem.

Depending on how you looked at it, Frid was a pushing-forty menial labourer, gamer and geek who’d woken up from what had to be a fever dream with an additional quarter-century of memories in his head—with supporting evidence of identity—or . . .

Or he was a twenty-five-year-old magus who’d woken up remembering almost forty years' worth of memories—with a supporting personality—that told him everything around him was ultimately fictional; at least, from his perspective. The dissonance between the two identities was making it hard to sort through everything, since he’d either increased his life experiences by sixty percent, or one hundred and sixty percent, and a lot of them overlapped.

If he’d been, say, a wizard in the style of the “Harry Potter” series, with access to Occlumency—or perhaps a druid with a genius-level intellect and a Wisdom score eclipsing that of many deities—then maybe it would’ve been easier to handle. But as it was, straightening out who he was, what he knew, and how, was taking time.

Thus, he was kind of fixated on the one point, right now.

According to the memories he’d managed to untangle, they’d first met in London, as fellow prowlers of the Clock Tower’s library. Fiore was a first-rate magus, with a heart and older sister issues, not unlike a certain other “Fate” heroine—though really, it seemed to be a standard magus design . . .

(In a town some distance to the North, as well as one in the Far East, certain magi sneezed. The former vowed vengeance if she found out Shirou had taken her name in vain; the latter merely continued listening to her acquaintance’s proposition.)

In any case, the teenager was lovely, intelligent, charming, and enthusiastic about learning; qualities his misanthropic self—one of the many points of commonality between his lives—had little defence against. When it came to social cues, he might be oblivious enough to qualify as a harem protagonist (honestly, too—that one attempt at dating? He’d had no clue the girl was into him until she’d said so), but he also had manners.

Seriously—when a pretty girl smiled upon seeing him, and invited him to sit, with no knowledge of ill-intent on her part he was aware of, he was supposed to refuse . . .?

They’d become friends, basically, and (while they’d each eventually left the Clock Tower, for one reason or another) kept in touch. It had actually encouraged Fiore to learn to use a cell phone, even if she’d been embarrassed at needing her little brother to teach her how—something he was reasonably sure that “canon” Fiore hadn’t really known how to do. For that matter, neither had he; his only cell phone had been an analogue one, and used only briefly.

The engagement request had come from her patriarch, Darnic—and hadn’t that been a surprise . . .

The actual origin and meaning of the name “Súilleabháin” and its variants was in some dispute; all most scholars could agree on was that it referred to the eyes: “bright-eyed,” “hawk-eyed,” or something similar. In Nasuvian lore, of course, that sort of name brought to mind a very specific connotation—as such, Frid had been unsurprised that his family’s work had revolved around refining their genetic propensity for, and the general power of, their Mystic Eyes.

In Japanese, what Frid possessed was called the “Yoseigan”—which sounded like it more rightly belonged in “Naruto” than the “Fate” series—alternately translated into “Fairy Eye,” “Glam Sight,” and (his personal nickname for it) “What is Seen Cannot Be Unseen.” In layman’s terms, it allowed him to see and make sense of things that the brain normally couldn’t process; high-speed movement was usually the given example. And it was true: using the Yoseigan, he could keep up with the kind of fighting Enforcers, Executors, or assassins like Soichiro Kuzuki, were trained to engage in—it was very handy for not just going down like a chump when he encountered one.

But it was more than that. Being able to see everything the eye possibly could, and see past the kind of bounded fields that used mental manipulation instead of physically bending light; being able to translate any writing, instantly . . . The eventual goal, Frid knew, was to see a way to the Root, but for the here and now?

It made spotting and disarming magical locks, and traps, a hell of a lot easier—hence his being hired for this job. . . Aside from the part the whole “fiancée” thing had to do with it, at least.

. . . And how the hell had he wound up with one of those, again?

Frid shook his head. Honestly, with the way he was having trouble sorting out his mind, and the general circumstances—if that fever dream had anything to do with reality, then he’d have suspected someone had slapped a Dungeons and Dragons true reincarnation or true resurrection spell on him. But those built a physical body out of elements of the world, if physical remains were unavailable to be transformed. That would explain his being a magus, but how would a TYPE-MOON world’s elements would have been available to use in the first place?

In a particular tube in the dungeons of the Millennia Fortress, taped to its otherwise empty insides, was a note:

    Dear Yggdmillennia,

    I.O.U. one (1) homunculus.
    Sincerely,

    Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg

    P.S. Challenge accepted!

Taking a deep breath, Frid reminded himself that the metaphysics and reasons behind however he’d ended up here was, at this point, immaterial. Right now, he had a delivery to finish, and a boss to report to—who just happened to be his nineteen-year-old fiancée, and the mirror image of India Eisley at that age . . .

    I’m almost freaking forty—so why do I feel like I’m back in high school . . .?

Fiore fidgeted in her chair, turning the tray of pastries on the table in front of her to be just so—making that the eighth time she had done so in the last five minutes.

Caules sighed. It was a sigh of long-suffering that would’ve been familiar to any sibling. While there was a certain impish delight to be had in watching his big sister squirm like this, by now it had long since passed the point of amusement and was rapidly descending towards the point of being irritating.

“Fiore,” he said at last, “there’s no need to get so worked up—”

“Ah!” Fiore bolted upright in her chair, startled, before looking to him, her complexion darkening in embarrassment. Though whether that was because of her behaviour, or the fact that she’d apparently forgotten he was even in the room, Caules couldn’t say.

“Sorry,” she murmured, not elaborating of what she was apologising for. “I’m just worried. We know his plane got in on time, but he didn’t call or come to the castle—”

“Because it was three in the morning,” Caules pointed out reasonably. “He likely got to sleep during the flight, but he wouldn’t have woken us that early outside of an emergency.”

Godafrid Úa Súilleabháin could fairly be said to be a lot of things—and “tactful” wasn’t always one of them—but he was generally polite.

“You’re right,” his sister admitted. “But I sent him on this mission, and if anything went wrong . . .” She worried her lower lip anxiously. “Even when catalysts like this are easy to find, they’re heavily guarded; if he got hurt . . .

“You didn’t send him because he was the easiest to contact, or the cheapest,” Caules said. “You sent him because you could trust him to get the job done, and because he’s good at what he does.”

All true things—Caules had been amazed that Fiore had needed to badger the man into working for cost, never mind a fee. It wasn’t exactly the most financially sensible way to operate . . .

But that same sentimentality makes him an ideal match for Fiore, the younger magus thought. Especially when it’s paired with a vindictive streak like he’s got . . .

He hadn’t been sure what to expect of his big sister’s “pen-pal”—and knowing Fiore like he did, Caules assumed that she was seeing him more positively than the man deserved—so he’d done some digging of his own. Especially once Lord Darnic had proposed engaging Fiore to him; that was the head of Yggdmillennia’s right, but Caules was still going to make sure that Fiore was happy, regardless of all else.

What he’d discovered painted the picture of a magus . . . Who wasn’t much of one, really.

Oh, he had a bloodline of some age and recognition, but never a lot of influence or renown; and seeming little to no interest in the politics of the nobles above him. And he was regarded as intelligent and interested in learning, but he seemed to perform few if any experiments of his own, preferring to acquire knowledge from books, or scouring sites across the world for information—again, much like Fiore herself. Save that he tended to use his magecraft in meddlesome, albeit subtle, ways in the non-magical world around him. Wherever he tended to set up shop, for example, street crime rates took a sudden and sharp decline . . .

Which, Caules admitted, Fiore might also do, if our magecraft and Mystic Codes were such that she could manage it without drawing attention.

He also had a reputation in the mundane world as a translator and code-breaker; be it digital encryption or a long-dead pictograph, few ciphers could withstand his skills, apparently—and they were in high enough demand to command quite the sum. Even if the Yggdmillennia name and fortunes didn’t support the siblings, his income could have, and it would make a nice addition to the family coffers.

And that was on the mundane side of things; as a magus, there was the Mystic Eye trait of his bloodline to consider, and the fact that while he had only eleven Magic Circuits, they were apparently some kind of mutation—unusually dense, and as a result, strong enough to be capable of generating more, or denser, levels of prana than they would otherwise be able to support without sustaining damage . . .

Which might be capable of fixing Fiore’s legs, Caules mused to himself, if we could figure out how to transfer the quality; a denser, more robust set of Circuits might alleviate the strain that using them puts on her nervous system. But even if it doesn’t, if that quality is transferrable to any degree on a genetic level, like the Mystic Eyes supposedly are for his family . . .

The result, Caules supposed, could be a magus of truly terrifying capability—which made Lord Darnic’s proposition a sensible, even desirable one. But that was the political, and magus level of things. On the personal side—

Caules’ thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of a maid, announcing the very subject of his thoughts; followed shortly by the man himself appearing.

“Good morning, Lady Fiore,” the freelancer said crisply, his professional expression spoiled somewhat by an underlying warmth in his voice, and a slight reddening of his cheeks. He turned and added in a slightly cooler tone. “Lord Caules.”

Caules nodded in response to the older man’s own, which prompted the freelancer to return his attention to Fiore, and continue, “I am pleased to announce the successful completion of the task you set me.” He un-slung the oddly patterned tube from his back—a carrying case such as were used for maps, scrolls, and similar documents.

“Behold!” he pronounced dramatically. “The BLUEPRINTS OF FRANKENSTEIN!

In all defiance of the warm summer morning and the sunshine pouring in through the windows, ominous thunder rolled.

To her own embarrassment, Fiore eeped at the sudden sound, as Caules jumped—then stared at their guest, even as one hand rose to rub his temples.

“Did you honestly just use illusion magecraft for a practical joke . . .?” her little brother groaned disbelievingly.

“My sense of the dramatic demanded no less,” Frid confirmed with a grin. “I mean, how many chances am I going to get for something like that?”

Fiore quickly brought her hand up to cover a giggle. Frid’s sense of humour could be odd at times—and inappropriate or dark in how and when it chose to come out—but there was a good-natured irreverence to it that tickled her own fancy. It was one of his more attractive features.

Not that he’s short of them, she thought, feeling her cheeks heat up again. With a deep breath, Fiore calmed herself; it wouldn’t do to give Caules more fodder to tease her with.

“If he realised how besotted you were with him, you might be in trouble,” her little brother had pointed out after their last phone call. “At least, you might be if he wasn’t already wrapped around your finger.”

Her face had burned for hours after that remark, and it put her future plans in a sour context. She was sure he would do as she asked, or at least try . . . But she didn’t like what it said about her that she was going to ask in the first place.

    How could she not, though—?

Her attention was seized by the opening of the case, and the careful, almost reverential actions of removing and unrolling the pages that had been contained inside. Fiore leaned over to get a closer look as they were spread across the table—far from the pastries and coffee tray, obviously.

They were remarkably intact, given their age and the likely state they’d been in at the time they were last used—yellowed, naturally, and the inks were far from as vibrant as they could’ve been after nearly two centuries, of course. But the sort of water and mildew damage and outright fading one would’ve expected from a mundane document of this age, exposed to the elements, was not present.

“As I told you, I started in Ingolstadt,” Frid said. “Mainly having Shelley’s ‘novel’ to use as a basis for investigation, it made sense to begin where Victor was educated, and began his original experiments—I felt if the ‘creation’ scene held any accuracy, it was unlikely that he’d taken and carried the blueprints with him from that point.”

There would be more to it than that, of course, Fiore knew. Frankenstein had been a magus, if an unconventional one; even a satellite workshop, not intended to be permanent, would’ve been hidden, had defences . . .

“Failing that, I felt that the next best place to pick up traces was in the Orkneys,” he continued.

Where Frankenstein worked on the bride the creature demanded, Fiore mentally finished for him, the one he destroyed before completion.

“And I admit, that was a search,” Frid confessed. “Shelley didn’t exactly go into detail on where Victor was, and trying to trace a magus’ path from two centuries ago across all those little islands? Not easy.”

Fiore’s eyes lowered in shame. “I’m deeply sorry for making you go to so much trouble . . .”

He grinned—Frid almost never showed his teeth, but the degrees to which his mouth stretched differentiated his smiles from his smirks.

“I enjoyed it, and you knew I would,” he countered. “I told you I’d do something this fun for free.

Her face heated up again. He had, too—but she’d had her pride. Still, she could imagine him tramping across the moors, senses alert for every possible detail, checking off areas on a map, making entries in his notebook . . .

She’d watched him do it in the Clock Tower’s archives, and the light in his eyes when he was on the hunt transformed his entire expression. Frid wasn’t a researcher in the scientific sense; he enjoyed knowing things, but didn’t do it for the sake of the knowledge. For him, it was about the finding—tracking down the hidden secrets, buried in places no one would think to look. It was one of the reasons they got along so well; and one of the reasons she loved him.

. . . Or at least, found him attractive—she didn’t think she knew enough about love to call it that, yet. In quieter moments between them, though, he’d confessed the same, so she felt reasonably secure on that end of things . . . Mostly.

“I wish I could’ve joined you,” Fiore murmured, and meant it. Books and such were her passion, but she did enjoy “field trips,” as Frid termed them, much as he loved libraries.

Unfortunately, while they were a romantic setting—for the Gothically-inclined, at least—the Scottish moors were not wheelchair-accessible.

“Me, too,” Frid said sincerely, and she blushed.

“Well,” Caules said suddenly. “Thank you for your efforts, Frid—these will be a great help to my project.” He gently picked up the pages, and then half-turned away, before adding, “And now, I’m going to leave before I need to see a dentist about all this sweetness I’m being exposed to.”

C - Caules!” Fiore sputtered, suddenly having an entirely new reason to blush, and more fiercely at that. Her only consolation was that Frid was now blushing, too.

“Just for that,” the older male growled mock-fiercely, “I’m teaming with Lord El-Melloi II to whup you this weekend.”

Fiore cringed inwardly at the mention of the boys’ weekly “online gaming” sessions with one of the Lords of the Clock Tower. Caules did so as well, but more visibly.

“Ah, yeah,” the younger male said awkwardly. “About that . . . Sis, do you want to explain for me? Thanks!”

He departed without another word, leaving Fiore to fume silently over irresponsible little brothers leaving their older sisters holding the bag . . .

Fortunately, she’d prepared for something like this, and met her fiancé’s raised eyebrows with a gesture to sit down. Preparing him a cup of tea the way he liked it—Frid preferred coffee, she knew, but he wouldn’t have come here without having had his “daily allotment” of it already—she pushed the pastry tray towards him; it contained as many of his favourites as she’d been able to arrange for on short notice.

And from the way his eyebrows rose even higher than they’d already been, he noted that fact, as well.

“. . . Battle preparations in the castle, and bribery behind closed doors,” he murmured neutrally. “What war do you want me to fight in, Fiore?”

Inwardly, she winced at his choice of words—even as the part of her that was trained as a magus applauded his observational skills—but managed to keep it from showing on her face. “About that . . .” she began, echoing Caules.

Fiore explained about the history and nature of the Holy Grail War, the events of the Third War and the intentions of the Yggdmillennia Clan going forward. Throughout it all, Frid listened stoically, with that empty expression on his face that appeared whenever he wanted to mask his thoughts—or was really, truly angry.

“. . . And you’re all right with this?” he asked flatly, once she had finished.

Fiore winced again. It wasn’t the best segue into the part of the conversation she needed, if not wanted, to have—but it was unlikely she’d get a better one . . .

“. . . Not entirely,” she admitted quietly. “Which is why, though I’m ashamed to admit it, I have another, very selfish request to make of you.”

Taking his hands in her own, as well as a deep breath, Fiore steeled her courage, looked into his eyes, and pleaded.

“Will you please, please find a way to join the Red Faction . . .?”

My wife laughed a lot at poor EMIYA there. Presumably this means Atalanta won't be showing up. I like Frid's powers being expanded upon a little, and of course he's as much a softie as you always are. Huzzah, Sieg is... well, MIA and implied to be out of the picture. Zelretch pranks are serious business. Fiore is very cute. She was already cute in Apocrypha, but she's cuter now.

Olga with Mash and Sapphire promises to be... interesting. Also looking forward to however Erik ends up fitting in here, and how his (nerfed) powers translate. I'm not particularly familiar with Scion, but that was some fun backstory.

Oh, hi, I'm a lurker. I first landed on this site some 4ish years ago, I think from Tvtropes fanfic recs (after reading the Tsukihime, F/SN and F/HA VNs) After reading through some of the classics here (Elf, Moczo, several that I no longer remember specifically), I ended up finding a rec to Trinity (probably by Elf in one of the fanfic recommendation threads, unless I found it in the Fiction Tracker), and went through everything you wrote here. I think you're probably the best SI author I've encountered. I also read the entire thing (well, about a year ago, so there's some catching up to do) with my wife, which was a lot of fun.

Pleased to meet you! (Ecstatic, really, given how quiet the thread's been.) You are very kind in your compliments, and I'm delighted that you've enjoyed my work thus far - even more so that it managed to be a bonding activity!

I will try my very best to live up to your expectations going forward.

As was much the intention, really. One of the reasons we did this was because we wanted to give Rin some closure; as noted, EMIYA doesn't really seem like he'd fit quietly into the Works' ranks, given who's running it, but a one-shot mission like this . . .?

So, yeah - and for Rin, that means it's payback time. She knows all the dirty little secrets he hid from her at the beginning of the War, now, and is fully prepared to make his life a living hell for manipulating her like that. It's supposed to be the other way around, after all.

Presumably this means Atalanta won't be showing up.
We discussed each of the canon Red side, and with two exceptions, went a different way. Some of them are being brought in for fun (usually their relationship with their Master, or another Servant and/or Master); others for specific counters to Servants of Black, and sometimes both.

I like Frid's powers being expanded upon a little,
I'm glad - I went to some trouble to try and keep to (some form of) canon and believability.

and of course he's as much a softie as you always are.
Which can make things difficult, in the Moonlit World, but he does try. Otherwise, in the words of Han Solo, "Hey - it's me."

Huzzah, Sieg is... well, MIA and implied to be out of the picture.
Yup. If there's going to be an overpowered original character and/or SI in the story, he's going to be ours.

    Zelretch pranks are serious business.
Indeed - and he's setting things up to get a lot of laughs out of things, even if everything falls apart on him.

Fiore is very cute. She was already cute in Apocrypha, but she's cuter now.
She was indeed, and I'm pleased you think so. I'm trying my best to predict how she'd react to being engaged, without making things too easy . . .

. . . I'll admit, she's one of the possibilities I have in mind for becoming my character's permanent partner in the Works - I have in mind a Zelretch prank involving downloading her memories here into the Works-native Fiore, along with a note that a guy in Fuyuki named Shirou is "trying to save everyone" - but that version of Fiore isn't a magus, apparently; and as a magus, she's a paraplegic. I'm not sure how best to reconcile things . . . Or if one of the other options is more viable. Wait and see, I suppose.

Olga with Mash and Sapphire promises to be... interesting.
Especially when Jeanne meets them, I'm thinking - she already suspects something's wrong with the Grail, and here comes this irregular Servant class . . .

Also looking forward to however Erik ends up fitting in here, and how his (nerfed) powers translate. I'm not particularly familiar with Scion, but that was some fun backstory.
It was a fun game to play, even if the mechanics weren't quite up to handling the higher power tiers (high-level Demigod to God). It's a "spiritual successor" to White Wolf/Onyx Path Publishing's Exalted and Trinity (no relation to my stuff) games - by which it means that they've fixed the problem where you could create a character capable of throwing punches they couldn't take. The basic storyline is that the Titans have escaped their ancient prison, and are waging war against the Gods. While the various pantheons are besieged in the heavens, it falls to you, their Scions, to protect the World . . .

I'm looking forward to seeing what the game's second edition (at the printers' now!) has in store.

. . . And RB will be pleased you said so, I'm sure. Translating things has been interesting, at points (though Scion is one of the few games whose powers I think could be translated to a TYPE-MOON setting), but I'm hoping the results will be entertaining - even if I do spend a lot of time reminding him that things like creating an army of Fenris-spawn are NOT something he ought to be doing . . .

It's been fun times (except for that long hiatus during last year, glad you've healed somewhat). I'm glad someone is compiling the Grail Works drabbles, since finding all of those can be a pain. Trinity Angles suffers in the same way.

Semiramis was confirmed already, if I recall correctly, so that means... hrm. I'm going to guess Achilles or Shakespeare, though I wouldn't put it past you to have Frid summon Hans for Red or something. Interesting that Fiore asked him to act on Red team, but I guess that makes sense given he's not Yggdermillenia, and he's presumably going to be helping her.

Oh weird, I didn't realize she has a different continuity in main universe. Wiki says it's mentioned in Lord El-Melloi II Case Files, huh. I always liked how Fiore has the entire "mages can't care" arc like Rin, but she's less tsundere about the entire thing.

Also, given her likely memories from this story, "some guy named Shirou trying to save everyone" is going to result in some fun introductions.

Especially when Jeanne meets them, I'm thinking - she already suspects something's wrong with the Grail, and here comes this irregular Servant class . . .
Well, at least it's not an Avenger. Shielders are positively respected, actually (at least, that was implied to me in Shinjuku). On an Avenger-related note, Edmond Dantes in FGO always makes me think of you for some reason.

Yeah, I definitely was getting some Exalted vibes there, with the Names of Powerful Abilities. I'm only familiar with Exalted via Keychain of Creation and TvTropes though, so I wasn't aware that offense was that much more powerful; it looks like they removed perfect defenses in 3e?
Raising armies isn't necessarily broken in Fate/, assuming they're not individually insanely powerful, and take some time to replenish, but you have to choose which of Erik's powers you want to emphasize, I suppose. He definitely seems like someone who will need significant prep time and planning to win fights. If we end up with a similar ending to canon Apocrypha, the aerial battles with Hanging Gardens promise to be EPIC.

Agreed - even I have trouble with that. In my defence, however, I never got into the habit of making Tables of Contents because I really never expected these threads to get anywhere near this long or complicated; way back at the beginning, I gave it 50/50 odds of my giving up entirely.

Thankfully, years of writing "Trinity" have gotten me into the habit, and now we have the wonderful Hikari, who was kind enough to volunteer to try and put them into some form of coherent order.

Semiramis was confirmed already, if I recall correctly, so that means... hrm. I'm going to guess Achilles or Shakespeare, though I wouldn't put it past you to have Frid summon Hans for Red or something.
Funnily enough, I have come to the conclusion that Hans would be my "partner" if I (or Frid, or any other SI of mine) became a Demi-Servant . . .

Interesting that Fiore asked him to act on Red team, but I guess that makes sense given he's not Yggdermillenia, and he's presumably going to be helping her.
We shall see, eh? If nothing else, she's certainly being more proactive than in canon.

Oh weird, I didn't realize she has a different continuity in main universe. Wiki says it's mentioned in Lord El-Melloi II Case Files, huh. I always liked how Fiore has the entire "mages can't care" arc like Rin, but she's less tsundere about the entire thing.
*Nods* Indeed, and agreed. I just wish there was a way for her to resolve it without resorting to "either/or."

. . . Hm - I wonder if a Kaleidostick would work? If so, I'm sure Rin would be thrilled to get rid of Ruby.

Also, given her likely memories from this story, "some guy named Shirou trying to save everyone" is going to result in some fun introductions.
    Precisely.

Well, at least it's not an Avenger.
True - although if the one I really wanted wasn't Jeanne Alter (and thus, more or less impossible to reasonably explain), that might have been different.

On an Avenger-related note, Edmond Dantes in FGO always makes me think of you for some reason.
*Chuckles* Mutual sense of the melodramatic, perhaps?

Yeah, I definitely was getting some Exalted vibes there, with the Names of Powerful Abilities. I'm only familiar with Exalted via Keychain of Creation and TvTropes though, so I wasn't aware that offense was that much more powerful; it looks like they removed perfect defenses in 3e?
Did they? Sadly, I'm only up to 2nd at the moment (with a few first-edition books). But yes, there are similarities . . . The general consensus is that a Scion can beat a starting Exalt, and up to a certain level of experience, but the "Perfect Dodge" and "Perfect Defence," alongside similar abilities, will eventually tip the balance in favour of the Exalted.

. . . Which does make sense, since they were created to kill gods - which is what Scions aspire to eventually become.

Raising armies isn't necessarily broken in Fate/, assuming they're not individually insanely powerful, and take some time to replenish, but you have to choose which of Erik's powers you want to emphasize, I suppose.
*Nods* It's under discussion, believe me. If nothing else, I'm trying to keep in mind (and make sure he does) that the TYPE-MOON characters should take the lead wherever possible.

He definitely seems like someone who will need significant prep time and planning to win fights.
    Usually, yes.

If we end up with a similar ending to canon Apocrypha, the aerial battles with Hanging Gardens promise to be EPIC.
*Chuckles* That would be the primary reason I suggested his using this character in the first place - it's perfectly apropos to the scale.

The prologue leading up to this can be found here.

Chapter 4: Of things that should not be poked, and the results of poking them.

    Date Unknown. Time Unknown.

I can't help but just stare outside. The "Face on Mars". It's not supposed to have eyes. At all. Period.

"What the everloving fuck am I even looking at, here?" I can't even tell. Nor can Tamamo, who's staring, and half pointing while trying to not whimper.

"Dear? Love? Honeybunch? I love you, and I abandoned my pantheon for yours, but I swear if this is another Cthulhu incident like the last time you tried to make portals to other worlds, and we're STUCK in some sort of eldritch abomination of a universe, I'll make your life hell." I can hear Tamamo saying that, from where she's clinging to me and using me as something to help keep her standing.

"Tamamo, love. I have no clue what I'm staring at, either. This is beyond me." I can feel her grip tightening on me, as she just stares with me, for one long moment.

Wait. Wait a moment. Are more eyes opening on the soil's surface?

I can see countless eyes opening up, and looking at us. Oh, that's frightening...

"Scylla? Check on Earth, please, as well as Wolf Home. Any repairs that need to be made?"

Nestor's just... sitting, with his eyes closed, trying to not look. I can't blame him.

"Looks like we've got problems, boss. The Legion of Coal reports that half the nuclear reactors on Wolf Home are outright down, a good chunk of the nuclear material somehow disappeared in transit, on both ships, and that the Heart of Winter is missing. Somehow. One thought it saw the Heart of Winter floating through walls without damaging them, on a beeline somewhere, mid transit. But seeing as I can't access any memory data banks for the Legion of Coal, or the ship itself, for while we were in transit without GOING INSANE, I'm afraid I can't verify that data."

Well... crap. That's probably not a good thing that the Heart of Winter did that. Still... us being low on nuclear material is worrying.

"Do we have enough to keep Wolf Home powered for the next few months?" I narrow my eyes, while thinking over the ramifications of this.

"No problem with that, boss. Oh, reports indicate that we still have both nukes, though! Looks like whatever the hell you coated them with worked just fine."

...Well, at least we have THOSE. Ugh. Still, I'm worried...

"Which moon was supposed to have Uranium deposits again?" I close my eyes, thinking. Better check them both.

"Scylla, radio the Wolf Home. Order them to head for orbit, towards one of the moons, and launch some of the Legion of Coal to both, to build up infastructure as well as mine as much uranium as we can from both."

    "Aye aye, boss!"

    Cheeky little... ugh.

"Don't forget, I'm made by the Titans. Rather than following those crazy monsters, I'm still following YOU. It also looks like whatever messed with you and the others, didn't really affect me."

"Effectively leaving you as the defense system for the Wolfen, I suppose?" I can't help but grin a bit.

    "Just like old times, boss!"

Yeah, just like old times, indeed... "Keep the weapons ready to launch, just in case. Load all bombs, and keep all weapons primed to fire that can be guaranteed to not launch in case we piss that thing off.

"Erik, the field of eyes showing up in the soil is slowly spreading. It's spreading fast, dear. Really, really fast."

I breathe out. "Yeah, I can see that too, Tamamo. Nestor, if you want to grab something to drink for us all, go right ahead. Get the good scotch, too, if you feel you need it."

He nods, and leaves, leaving us to watch the eyes studying and examining us. They're acting... sentient? For that matter, they blink in unison.

Wait. Crap. They blink in unison. I think that might be a single being, and not a hoard of plant or animal life.

That freaks me out. Badly. I still can't put off repairs, though, no matter how much I want to, to study that stuff.

    2 days later, May 18, 2004.

So. It's apparently May 18, 2004. Ugh. Not 2025, like it was before, where we WERE before. This is like hell, too. Eyes constantly watch us from every inch of Martian Soil we hang over.

Repairs to the Wolfen, and to the Wolf's Wrath mech are going slow. It's rather irritating. Tamamo swears she can see some of the eyes moving visibly, while it's night time, too. Reminds her of that Terraria game a lot, and it freaks me out, too.

An entire planet of living eyeballs. Brr. I really, REALLY hope we don't have something stupid like that Eye of Cthulhu out of Terraria show up. Really.

    Ugh. Damned grease.

Where was I in my internal monologue about what's going on? Right... I've got the Wolf's Wrath working again, but something's a little odd about how relics work here. It looks like they need to be recharged with repeated uses of my ichor, rather than just... existing like they did before. Kind of worrying, that.

Kieran's sword is missing, too, on top of it. I never got the Sword of Atli back to him, and if he somehow survived... well, considering he's KRAMPUS, he's either going to kill me, or make me WISH he'd killed me for it being missing.

More than that, the scanning system in my sunglasses picked up the Heart of Winter, on a direct course towards Earth, before it went out of range. Means it wound up here with us, but... it's going fast enough that it's worrying me. It's not acting like a normal item of ancient power, but like it has a mind of it's own. Maybe the Titans woke something up in it for the... abomination they became? I don't know.

Unfortunately, there's no sign of the damned sword, like there was the Heart of Winter. Ugh.

    "Dear?"

"Yes, Tamamo, my love?" I pull myself out from under the massive hydraulic systems I was working on.

"Could you stop swearing in English whenever you see those eyes, and start more in JAPANESE? I thought I taught you better than that." I can hear her smug voice from over here.

"You do recall I'm covered in grease, right? Are you sure you want me to tickle you right now for getting me worried?"

"Oh no, my husband is covered with grease! Why, I never thought that you tickling me would lead to us needing to get clean together!"

Oooh. Oh my. Well, time to tickle my wife, and then get nice and squeaky clean. The fun way.

    May 23, 2004

So. Between my wife jumping me every time I'm covered in grease and oil for fun in the bedroom, and the sheer amount of work I've been doing when she isn't wanting to jump me, work has been slow but steady. Looks like I've got something that may let me communicate with whatever those eyes ARE, and the machines are as repaired as they're ever going to be. The new technology with my blood linked to each rune set should let things work as relics longer, for the big mechanical stuff, as well. Whatever's going on, it's rather concerning with that. So hopefully this will leave things fully functioning as a divine piece of equipment.

It looks like a lot of my skills have decayed, as well. Mechanical panoply is twice as exhausting to use as it was before, with anything past the range of "Large mech, or machine the same size as a large mech" being completely out. No aircraft carriers, or spare mechanical battleships for me, I suppose. Well, unless I build them the hard and slow way, that is. Ugh. Here I am, anticipating USING it, and suddenly I can't.

Oh well. That's life, as the love of my life loves to remind me.

"Hey, boss? Legion of Coal reported in. Wanted to let you know they found HUGE uranium deposits on both moons. Problem is, it looked like it was somehow teleported in there, recently. I think those eyes did something to move that crap. Might be so we have incentive and power to LEAVE."

"Well. Shit." I clean my hands off with a grease rag, then rub my forehead. "Any idea how long it'll take to get that new Veritech prototype up and running? I don't think I want to risk the hoverpod with that stuff down there, if I go down to investigate. Especially with how often relics are having issues here."

"Eh. I'd honestly take the stuff out of the Wolf's Wrath, and put it in that thing, boss. Relics, weapons, the newfangled electric muscle system prototype, everything you can, then run it on nuclear power."

Eh. That works as much as anything else might, I suppose. I can't help but sigh however, even as I move to get to work on the machine.

"Yeah, let's get to work on that next. How are the people on the Wolf Home?"

"Fair enough, boss. Worried for you, but they're still eating healthy, and understand why you're being so strict about food rations right now, especially considering you seem to be putting yourself on them. Glad we've been saved, just as much as I am, but worried for you."

"I get that. Divinity works differently here, it seems. No domains seem to exist, either, as far as I can tell. Pretty sure that's why the ones we DID have collapsed."

"Yeah, boss. Kind of figured that out myself. I'll let you get back to work, though. I've got work to do, parts to fix, production lines to repair, and equipment to keep from falling apart around us. Especially with that fusion reactor you built. Couldn't you just have stuck with four nuclear power plants instead? Ugh. Too much maintenance, for that and the plasma cannon."

I sigh, and shoo the Scylla off, before sipping out of my flask, and getting to work.

    Saturday, June 5th, 2004.

So. Everything's done, and finished. I've managed to make a machine to let me use telepathy once more. Wolf Home has finished mining out the massive amounts of uranium we need for our stores to be completely full for both ships, and has even managed to convert 1/10th of the amount to be fuel for the engines both ships are stuck using right now.

Power armor/space suits are made, so I can survive out there without having to hold my breath, even. Even if I still can't make it as cool as out of some anime, and it can't do more than work like armor, it's still pretty neat stuff.

All that's left is to ask the eyeballs what they want. So after kissing my wife, I move to study them up close.

"Hi there! Could you tell me why you're watching me?"

"Oh, you finally message me. I wondered if you could."

"I lost the ability when we dimensionally shifted to here, and had to build something to give myself back the ability."

"Ah. Pity. I was hoping for more discussion like I had with the last God that came to my lands, Mars, would give me."

    "Mars? Ares?"

"One and the same. Pardon me, though. I am TYPE-MARS."

"Type... I've heard that term before, somewhere..."

"Indeed? Interesting. Perhaps this won't be as boring as I thought. Nevertheless. I bid you greetings, little weakened God. Or perhaps it is sealed, instead? You put too much into making your power linked to a new world around yourself, and not within yourself, instead."

"I do? That's good to know. Thank you, sir."

"Hmph. I'm not a sir, child. As for stepping foot on my lands, if you wish to colonize my domain, I will give you a quest."

    "What would that be?"

"Simple. BEAT ME LIKE MARS DID."

    "Ah. I..."

"Shall I show you WHY you cannot beat me like Mars did?"

"Sure. I wouldn't mind seeing that."

I watch, as the eyes roll towards one spot. One single location. One spot that seems to be slowly... opening? Twisting reality around it, to form a huge hole?

What is thi... is that a giant eye in that hole? Is that a giant eyeball, hidden underground, in that hole?

The smaller eyes are pulling themselves together, like giant eye tentacles. Rapidly attaching themselves to the giant eye, and slowly pulling the massive thing up, so it can stare at me, eye to face.

    "I'm guessing I don't have a shot right now, do I?"

"Well, if you'd like to take a free shot with that main cannon of yours, you can. But you won't like the consequences of it."

"I think... I'm honestly GOOD, thank you. I'm not going to pick a fight with you."

"Good. Get your ass off my planet then. You may allow your colonists to settle on the moons, until you can figure out how to settle elsewhere, but stay the hell off my planet until you have the power to fight me. Am I clear? This planet is MINE, and I AM the planet's will, and power made manifest."

"Got it... any tips on how to grow strong like Mars apparently did?"

I can feel it analyzing me, studying me. Looking deep into my soul.

"You could link yourself further to nature, at the cost of dying with a planet if it dies. Or... perhaps, learning to take one of your domains, unique to you, and forming it into something new? Nevertheless, search your own soul. Study it. Meditate on it. Figure out how to shore up the damage you took from what has happened to you. You should not have taken the losses to your speed, and abilities that you have. You should never have needed to take an avatar form in the first place, or lost your body when you became a God, not with the rules that are here. If the rules you lived by existed, then something was dreadfully wrong with the place, the realm you lived in, compared to this one. Perhaps a trap, to keep a cycle eternally going?"

"That's... a lot to take in. I'll remember it, though. Thank you. We'll leave when we can. It'll take me a day to regenerate the legend I've burned to talk with you, and then more to get to Earth so I can get supplies to help my colonists."

The eye nods, then rapidly sinks back into it's hole, as I just go back in to shake. As it moves, though, I can hear it's voice in my head. "One day to get into orbit."

    June 6th, 2004

We're moving up into Orbit, slowly. But something feels off a bit.

    "A day's up."

Wait. What?! That wasn't anyone on the ship that said... oh fuck.

"EVASIVE MANEUVERS!" I call out, as I grab a railing, and hold on, hoping that Nestor or the Scylla can get us to dodge whatever's coming.

It's a bare thing, as a massive laser like blast of POWER erupts out of the crater TYPE-MARS hides within, nearly carving through the Wolfen. Before a second shot can erupt, though, I manage to use the Rainbow Bridge skill to teleport us away, exhausting it may be.

I take a swig out of my flask. It's something I'm not used to doing much, anymore. Haven't even finished that keg of dwarven ale, really, that I got so long ago.

Today deserves it, though. What the hell WAS that thing?

"Erik." I turn, and glance at Fenris, before moving to sit beside him. He looks... contemplative. Also somewhat... constipated? No, that's wrong. He looks like he's having issues, though.

"Yeah, Fenris? What's wrong? Want some ale to help? It's that dwarven stuff you tend to be fond of." He chuckles at that, then lays down to just rest beside me.

"I'm having issues. More specifically, issues that could influence us all."

    Hmm. Not a good... wait.

"I hope it's not to EAT us, right?"

He narrows his eyes, studying me, then sighs. "Pretty much, my friend. You and your friends saved me, but it was you that wrestled me, talked with me for years, to convince me to not eat the pantheon, and rather live out life with you out of their reach. I'd rather warn you than hurt you. It's not bad yet, but it feels like I'm slowly growing stronger each day. I suspect until I reach the level you're currently at."

"We destroyed your fate THERE, but... we didn't here, did we? Well. Fuck. Any ideas on how to get around it?"

"Blood brother oath, or in the case of your wife, blood sister oath?"

Well, that works, I suppose... "Any price for it?"

"I'm not sure my blood will work out with Fafnir's, which you bathed in. Though, with this universe as it stands, I'm not sure Fafnir's blood will work out for you anyways, so I'm not sure it's that much of a problem."

Eh. Lose that ability to be invincible for one attack, for a good chunk of my pool of internal legend, over not being EATEN by Fenris? Definitely, definitely a better deal.

"Worth it. Now let's do this thing before I lose my calm about this."

    Roll notes
Rolling for designing a machine that lets someone use telepathy again after they lose it...
    8D10E8 => 5 | 10s: 3 = 8
    Rolling for engineering skills involved...
    16D10E8 => 7 | 10s: 2, ones: 1 = 9-1 = 8
    Adding automatic successes...
    22 automatic successes.
38 total. Comparing to the modifiers needed to beat... one headset of telepathy that uses electricity. So a DC of 13 to make a temporary piece of equipment that restores the knack for telepathy so Erik can talk with the thing.

Rolls for how bad off Fenris is in this universe:
    1D4 => 1
Oh boy, that's going to cause ISSUES later.
    Side effects roll 1:
    1D2 => 2
Hm. Issue dodged, lucky for him.
    Side effects roll 2:
    1D2 => 2
...Wow, he dodged EVERYTHING that could've been an issue.
Side effects roll 3 and 4:
    1D2 => 1 for both
THAT'S going to cause complications later...
    Side effects roll 5:
    1D2 => 2
Huh. This is going to be hilarious, later on.

    Author's Note:

I'll post the Character sheet later, when I can. Keep in mind that Erik started as a full fledged God, and though he's SEALED to be lower than a full fledged god, that doesn't mean he still technically isn't one. It just means he's stuck with his legend/level of divinity as being several levels lower than it should be. 8 instead of 12.

More specifically, Gods without Domains have to form a mortal avatar, at the level of a weak (or strong) Demigod, in order to affect things on the mortal realm. That alone was a huge legend sink for him.

So all his skills are weakened, including his personal skills. He's not exactly OUT of the game, if he wants to go and fight personally, but if he was summoned as a Servant, he'd be summoned as either Rider, Archer, or Caster.

His legend income, as it stands right now, is 23 legend a day, which he has to share with Tamamo and Fenris. Considering right now, it costs 4 legend to move the ship 8,000,000 miles... it's not exactly a short trip back to Earth, with that level of legend coming to him. Yes, he has a battery that gives him 288 legend he can use at any time, but it's not exactly easy to charge that, considering his cap has gone from 144 to 64.

As for FAFNIR, we killed the fellow after he faked his death against Sigurd/Siegfried in Scion. Then everyone but Tamamo voted to bathe in his blood, since she's very much a Japanese maiden turned housewife. (And now the type that will swing a frying pan at someone if they piss her off...)

That gave Erik a skill that is outright BROKEN, even in a Fate setting. The ability to outright ignore all damage of an attack from anything weaker than him, as a demigod, for 1 legend? Then as a God for 10? Even if you adjust it to be Siegfried's armor, as in Apocrypha, that's still an utterly broken skill that outright ignores attacks lesser than a B rank, and reduces all attacks above B rank down TO B.

If I'd left that in, he'd be able to solo servants outright, and we can't have THAT now, can we?

As for the rolls, Erik Ulricson is very much an rpg character, even if he doesn't know it. So rather than just do stuff one way or another, arbitrarily, I've been rolling dice for him using an online dice roller, on route choices.

Now, off to writing the rest of his character sheet up, as it's been altered... because it HAS been altered. This is a character 30 years after I last played him. He's learned a bit since the end of the Scion game. Furthermore, a lot of skills HAVE been sealed from this.

As for music... nothing I found worked this time for the chapter. Sorry folks.
I'm starting to suspect that talking with Kieran influences my rolls on Fate/Grand Order Heavily. How else can you explain me talking with him, then rolling for 30, only to get 3 Archer of Shinjuku on my second ten roll?

I write like Douglas Adams. Proof: http://iwl.me/s/696f37bd

At 23 Legend per day, split, burning 10 on a single hit invulnerability against B rank or lower is... not insane, at least, at Servant power levels. And reducing higher level to lower level is good, but again, not entirely insane. If it was the demigod cost, that would be pretty crazy, but I guess when you become a god, the no-sell effect is much stronger (presumably based on your Legend dots or something). On the other hand, the implication of "able to solo servants outright" seems to be that he isn't intended to count as a Servant, power-wise, so I guess that works. Seems odd for someone in a teleporting ship with nukes, but those are probably not going to be very useful on the ground. The cannon might be, though it would obviously not be usable very often, and tips your hand a bit. I wonder if Erik, or Tamamo/Fenris (less likely) will actually end up as a Master (or warped into a Servant somehow). The standard pattern for Fate series implies it, but that also seems odd, considering they're literally from a different universe. Translation might give them something analogous to Circuits though, particularly given that Erik is powering things with his blood. Without a catalyst, you'd expect either Tamamo (which would be pretty confusing) or Siegfried, but Siegfried is already taken... or so we expect.

Legend regeneration seems to be based on prayer from the 230 people they have alive? It feels like that might be strong (at least, I can't find any reference to such a mechanic, which makes it balance-dubious, but apparently Scion itself isn't balanced in the slightest), but I guess you need enough to actually be able to do godly things on a regular basis.

Seeing a depiction of TYPE-MARS is interesting. "Get your ass off my planet then" is... amusing. I'm surprised it's quite that understandable/reasonable, given descriptions of TYPE-MERCURY, but I'd bet Erik's Epic Intelligence is helping out there.

Erik, as a God, was the one that did the final blows on Jormungandr, because the Frost Perview is amazingly BROKEN for one of it's skills. Aka "Oh, if you fail to make a saving roll against this, you get turned to ice and die instantly, and IT CAN'T MISS!" This alone is utterly broken, and will likely one shot a servant, but that's if he ever regains his status as a full God. Which is going to take some really lucky dice rolls, considering... As he is NOW however, he can lose to Servants, but if he ever reclaims his status as a proper God... there's going to be SOME issues if they've hurt his wife, hurt Fenris, or blown up his ship. More bluntly, Erik as a God can break the sound barrier, with his abilities.

As it is, if he goes against MASTERS, he can pretty much one shot a normal person, or even a mage with no specialty, because he has some rather nasty, horrifyingly potent skills for taking out people with a single shot. If you have Epic Strength, you're good... or the equivalent of it, but most masters won't.

Specifically, Frozen Panoply lets him make ice wherever he wants it to form and HOWEVER he wants it to form, plus Pykrete Creation means that it turns to a type of Pykrete with minerals rather than wood pulp backing it up. Imagine your mouth and nose being frozen shut, with the chunk of ice covering your head so you can't see to get it off, then it turning so hard, nothing can break it, you can't reach it to break it, etc. It's completely and utterly broken, if he wants to kill someone with it. And most masters are lazy scholars who don't actually exercise themselves.

As for legend costs... it's split 3 ways. Tamamo and Fenris need some followers to stay alive, so they're getting 10 followers each, more or less, while Erik's having to get the Wolfen to Earth, so it's him guzzling up most of the legend. Most legend skills for a God, are roughly 20, 30, or HIGHER, for the highest, strongest skills, though. So that goes to show that it takes a few days for the tank to fill back up, so to speak. Plus, with everything else that's half broken on the ship, though, he's worried about that Gem of Power breaking, as well. Massive legend battery going boom? Not good.

Think of Erik as being like the leader for an RTS game. He's completely broken if you're holed up somewhere, with a secret base, I'll tell you that much. Plus, Erik is a god of Paranoia. He's going to be doing just that, at first. Holing up, trying to contact Gods and figure out what's going on with this new Earth he's on. As a crafting God, as well, he's going to work on hidden bases, etc. etc. as a standard, if you haven't realized it yet. Little secrets, subtle rocket launches to orbit, or trips to orbit on the Wolfen... you get it. If he ever is unveiled, though, then he's going to have issues.

And considering he's styled a bit on Dr. Robotnik with a mix of "ALL THE MACHINES! ALL THE MECHA! ALL OF IT, YES!"... well, you get it. Rather than Swatbots or robotized animals, or animals stuck in Badniks, we have a Legion of Coal.

Tamamo, on the other hand, was very much the model of a Japanese housewife, irregardless if she married into the Norse Pantheon. Her battlecry, in the Scion game was "For the Hubby to be!", and it showed. Of course, considering she mastered the Stars Perview, she mastered TIME TRAVEL and time manipulation, as well as "being able to make herself emit hard radiation and kill all life she touches with it". Furthermore, she also mastered the Sun perview, making her a pretty potent Sun Goddess as the Daughter and Scion of Amaterasu. She just chose to become the Norse Goddess of Kitsune and Foxes, instead of Japanese goddess of Happy Housewives alone. *chuckles*

She's very much someone who loves to see new life grow, and helped Erik with her insane skill in Crafting Life, to create the Legion of Coal. Thus them finally being fully sentient, just before the Titans caught up to Erik, and now here, too. Though, Tamamo is too happy to be Erik's wife to really CARE except now she has to work to be a proper goddess again so she can ensure her hubby is happy. With her being a Kitsune, that's going to be a few hundred years for her to get back up to 9 tails, and become a goddess that way, so she knows she can pull it off if she waits.

The Scylla, on the other hand, knows everything about creating more things like itself, as well as things like "Cloning" and "creating life from nothing", since Tamamo's helped guide him to work to ensure the skills it learned from it's creator would be humane. It's very much a biological AI/Supercomputer. It's smart, but limited. It's very much stuck with the position of "I have no body except the machines Erik links me to. I have no mouth, even though I can talk, so thankfully I CAN scream, but life is very much not pleasant for me without Erik in it. I cannot grow, because my creator did not make me be able to grow, and because I'm STUCK AS A SPHERE, I cannot have arms to fight, unless they are made for me. A body to protect myself with, unless it is made for me. WHY IS MY LIFE SUFFERING WITHOUT ERIK'S HELP?!" It's also legend 6, and able to use six limbs at once to attack people.

As for Fenris, he's very much on the side of "Not pissing off the guy with mechs that can kill me, who went out of his way to be prepared to fight off his entire pantheon to save me". Thus this little chat he's had here with Erik. Fenris might be regaining some of his strength, but he's outnumbered, outgunned (heavily so, as you'll see with the Character Sheet), and he's not at legend 12, or likely to get there anytime soon.

As for the Wolfen, it has issues. It's powerful, yes... but as the work I've been doing on Erik's character sheet shows... it has issues. Much like the Millenium Falcon has issues in Star Wars. Again, it's a prototype battleship. While all those 75 others got to have upgrades, etc. etc., his has structural issues. Or guns failing, because the screws unscrewed themselves due to the guns recoil after so much shooting.

Most of his equipment has issues, to be honest, though that's more "The rules work different here, and he hasn't figured out to fix the issues his relics have, in order to work perfectly HERE as well." There's REASONS for this, but that'll come in a future chapter.

As for Servants, that's spoilers, isn't it? *chuckles* I will say, though, that I've figured that if someone from Scion summons a servant, they're going to cost 10 legend a day for upkeep. Because, again. He's a GOD. They don't work exactly the same way as mortals do. His power is literally in his blood, more than in circuits.

Finally, as for TYPE-MARS... NOTHING described TYPE-MARS in Type Moon, at all. Except that it exists, and kills stuff in Notes... But Kieran pointed out that the Face on Mars could have something to do with it, so I rolled with it. Pretty much a "I wonder what would happen if the face on mars OPENED ITS EYES" and went from there. Eventually, I had the bright idea of "What would be creepy, but sound extremely rational, when dealing with an alien intelligence that's based around eyeballs? Let's hope I don't rip off Terraria with this, hmm?" and went with what it became. As for how the talk happened... Erik as a God has telepathy. Erik as a Demigod does not. But since he's had it for 30 years, he knows how to make it work again, and figure out, through "SCIENCE!", how to ensure it works for himself.

Even still, the whole bit with TYPE-MARS wasn't from his Epic Intelligence, so much as his EPIC CHARISMA. The person who convinced Fenris to NOT eat the Norse Pantheon, talking with a Type? Of course he's going to be able to talk his way through everything with a Type, as well! Quite literally, on all his dice rolls to talk his way out of trouble? Automatic 22 successes. A SERVANT will be able to realize something's going on... but a normal mage? A normal human? Nope. It takes something like 5 successes on average to convince a normal person of what you're saying is true.

Depending on the dice roll for what Erik does when he settles down, who he meets, etc., that's going to make for some interesting times, too.

I'll be posting Erik's character sheet, later, so if I double post later, sorry about that.
I'm starting to suspect that talking with Kieran influences my rolls on Fate/Grand Order Heavily. How else can you explain me talking with him, then rolling for 30, only to get 3 Archer of Shinjuku on my second ten roll?

Well, finally got this done. Text dump ahead. Followed by writing up the next stuff I need to cover, then going back to Olga's part of the story. Followed by more of Erik Ulricson. If anyone WANTS me to, I can post Tamamo and Fenris' stats as well. Later. MUCH later. This took me about a day and a half to compile.

Edit: It removes all my spacing for stats, etc. Any idea how to FIX this? Or is it stuck just adding in a single space between stats? Tab refuses to work right out.

    Unique abilities still available:
    Pykrete Creation skill
With mastery over Hrimthurssar's Touch, and Earth Shaping, I can coat an object in Pykrete for 3 points of legend to add half my legend to it's soak, or 5 points of legend to add my full legend to it's soak.

Mechanical Panoply 7*: Craft + Science + Occult + Intelligence)
A boon that has become the culmination of Frozen Panoply combined with Erik Ulfrsonr's expertise with engineering and forging. This is effectively shaping the metal already on hand and forming the parts using the skills gained from how often he's worked with crafting ice and pykrete, as well as Earth Shaping. All creations are permanent. 1 willpower point is required to make the piece be able to be a relic if the materials used are legendary ones.
    When used as a God:
3 legend to make something the size of a generator or smaller. 5 legend to make a small machine (the size of a power hammer), 10 to make a medium sized machine (like a factory assembly line), 15 legend to make a large machine (Mecha!) and 20 legend to make a titanic sized machine(Think the Titanic, an Aircraft Carrier, or a Submarine).
    When used as a Demigod:
6 legend to make something the size of a generator or smaller. 10 legend to make a small machine (the size of a power hammer), 20 to make a medium sized machine (like a factory assembly line), 30 legend to make a large machine (Think Mecha!), and the skill to make anything bigger has been lost, due to the weakness between being a God or a demigod. Furthermore, as a demigod, unless every bit of the material is made with divine ingredients, this won't be a divine relic. If it's crafted by hand, it can be, but not with this weakened as it is.

Rolls for health for Mecha is (Intelligence + Craft (for each applicable type)) * Legend, while armor is typically Erik's legend, if the metal doesn't add hardness. In this case, 8 legend.
Strength for a mech is 15. If someone is piloting in such a way that their strength is used, as well, then it would be 15 + pilot's strength. Same if they're wearing the Mechanical Linkup Suit, but that also adds in the Epic Stats, too.

Mecha can be built for 1 cubic yard of metal, with the result of 5 equipment slots for the machine and a drastically reduced health pool (max of 100!) and equivalent to the golems mass produced by Avicebrom, or 10 cubic yards of metal, for an overbuilt mech.

Overbuilt mechs have a max of 9 weapon/equipment slots, not including equipment from other machines that may be linked to it, with a maximum ammunition load of 3 for explosives, or 3,000 for gatling guns, etc.

One slot can be used for holding an extra 3 rounds (or 3,000 in the case of machine guns) of ammunition for a weapon.
Another slot can be used for to multi-link weapons. Dual through hex link only, though.

Abilities Gained due to Fenris becoming Erik's blood brother:

Strength increased by 2, as well as Epic Strength. Epic Wits grew by 1. Perception and Epic Perception grew by 1. Manipulation and Appearance grew by a bit as well.
Erik may be more likely to cross a certain unknown line.
Fire now heals Erik, instead of hurting him.

Abilities Lost due to Fenris becoming Erik's blood brother:
Animal (Dragon) and all gained abilities involving dragons.
    Invincible Knack
The Wolf Wing's Armor, leaving Erik having to build it more armor from scratch ("AND IT WAS MY FAVORITE METHOD OF TRANSPORT, TOO!"). More than that, this now can be destroyed permanently, rather than simply heavily damaged each time it's "destroyed".
    All Dragonhide from Fafnir's corpse
    Erik's Dragonhide Trenchcoat Relic

Normal abilities still available (No. I'm not writing these descriptions out unless Erik USES them. If he does, I'll add them in):
Animal (All/wolf until 10th level boon) up to 7 while sealed (all while unsealed)
Earth 7 while sealed (all while unsealed)
Earth 1: Earth Sounding - This allows you to tap on something, and feel what is going on with the earth in a distance of 1/2 a mile times your legend, or 4 miles. Also lets you scan for ore, or cave systems, though it won't give you a perfect map of the latter. If used on walls, can give you a somewhat decent idea of how a house is shaped, but not as well as a bunker. No legend cost.
Earth 7: Landslide - This allows you to reshape stone and earth around you, blocking or altering things to your will, for a radius of 50 yards x your legend, or 400 yards, in Erik's case. Strength + Craft is rolled, with 5 cubic yards of earth or stone manipulated per success. 3 legend cost, 1 willpower point used.
Frost 7 while sealed (all while unsealed)
Frost 2: Uller's Stride - This lets you slide along the ground, making no tracks, but forming a sheet of ice as long as you're on a flat surface, so you can skate along the ice as if you were on ice skates. Very useful for changing the momentum from a fall into skating forwards along the ground rapidly to catch up to something. 1 legend cost
Frost 4: Frozen Panoply - Effectively a toolkit made out of ice, this can form basic tools or statues, from walls of ice, to ladders, even to hang glider frames (Rolls are Wits + Craft). Alternatively can be used to form ice armor (Wits + Athletics), an ice bow as well as 20 icicle arrows (Wits + Marksmanship), a spear (Wits + Melee), or an igloo (Wits + Survival). All for the low, low cost of 1 legend per creation.
Frost 7: Blizzard Call - Drops the temperature of an area by a good chunk every second, until it reaches 0 degrees celsius, before lowering temperature every minute, instead. This rapid freezing can destroy ceramics, metals turning brittle (and thus losing their ability to work as armor). Once the temperature reaches approximately -20 degrees celcius, snow starts accumulating out of thin air, from the precipitation in the air freezing (or humidity). Liquid water rapidly freezes at this point, with pipes bursting. This can also control already existing liquid in the air, resulting in snow, or freezing rain, or even hail starting to exist within the radius of this effect. After this point, any snow, or ice that has formed can be controlled within this range, forming walls, spears, or anything else that can be thought of.
This can also be used to alleviate cold, within the area of effect, as well.
Radius of Legend * 50, or 400 yards, at maximum, depending on number of successes. Cost is 3 legend, 1 willpower point.

    Darkness 1, Nightvision
Fire 1, Fire Immunity (Upgraded to Fire Regeneration!)
    Illusion 1

    Virtues
    Conviction: 5 Courage: 3 Endurance: 3 Loyalty: 5

    Willpower 7/7

    Dodge DV:
    (Dexterity + Athletics + legend) / 2
    (8 + 22 + 5 + 8) / 2 = 21.5. Rounded up = 22
    Parry DV:
    (Dexterity + Melee or Brawl + legend) / 2
    (8 + 22 + 5 + 8) / 2 = 21.5. Rounded up = 22
    Bashing Soak = 5 + 11 = 16
Lethal Soak = 1/2 stamina rounded up. Epic stamina counts for number of successes
    16/2 = 8
Aggravated Soak = Epic Stamina level AMOUNT
    5
Adding in Erik's current armor, Erik's soak value is as such:
    27 Bashing
    17 Lethal
    9 Aggravated

    Weaknesses:
Legendary chains can now bind Erik effectively.
The Justice Perview as well as the Water perview is now lost to Erik permanently.
Frost would normally be lost to Erik, as well, but he's a God of PYKRETE, which USES Frost. So instead he lost Water.
Water spells now can hurt Erik badly.

    Relics still available:
    Personal Equipment:

    Mystic Goggles of Weakness Perception
Made from parts of an Obsidian mirror that reflected a death Goddess' reflection back at her for over a thousand years, these goggles show the weaknesses in objects, allowing Erik to automatically do aggravated damage for weapons that "cut", rather than rifle rounds, crossbow bolts, and the like. (Lasers get +2 aggravated damage due to how it can cut in a line, as well as how weak they normally are, while throwing weapons and melee weapons get their full damage as aggravated.) It also increases his crafting by the equivalent of Arete: Crafting 8 when used (for those that haven't played Scion, 29 bonus successes to crafting). However, because of the sheer strangeness of wearing it, and Erik's being sealed, this can only be worn for 8 minutes a day due to Erik being weakened and sealed.

    Unrelenting Hoarfrost, Mirror/Discus Set
    +2 Accuracy, 7 lethal, 30 range, 4 speed, Piercing.
This has liquid nitrogen injectors on the sides of the mirror, which add 4 extra damage to this. It counts as a lethal poison per hit, that doesn't affect the body when it's not in contact.

When not in use, all 3 mirrors fold up to sit in a small box meant for a deck of cards, and can automatically return to the box if not used.

The mirrors can also communicate with each other, or other pieces of the obsidian glass used with them. The one in Erik's goggles, for example, or Tamamo's shield.

    Inevitable, Gas Powered Crossbow
+2 Accuracy, +3 Lethal, 30 range, 5 speed, never needs reloading
Once a trusty rifle, now a trusty gas powered crossbow, Erik can shoot this underwater with the gas canister, or pull the string back himself to fire. If he does it himself, it adds his epic strength to the damage done.

    Laser Rifle MK2
Jormungandr destroyed the original, not that he realized it at the time. So Erik went and made a new one.

3 aggravated, 180 range, Speed 3 seconds, Waterproof, Fully Powered, Able to Cloak for 2 legend, but breaks cloak upon firing.

This does 3 aggravated damage the first shot, and more the second. This one doesn't come with a massive generator/battery strapped to the back, either.

Fires far longer than the original did, for a full 2 seconds per shot, allowing Erik to cut through things rather than having perfect sniping.

    Rainbow Foxy Bracelet
This allows Erik to use Rainbow Bridge to teleport 200 miles per legend point. Unlike the backups Tamamo and Fenris use, this doesn't have a legend charge in case something goes wrong.

    Kieran's Necklace
A necklace giving him the ability to use illusions. One of the few keepsakes held by Erik from 30 years prior, and a memory of a good friend.

    Mechanical Linkup Suit MK2
This piece of equipment is a wonderous invention. More specifically, if Erik is wearing this, the machines he's riding in gain his statistics on top of theirs, for Strength, Dexterity, and Stamina rolls as well as bringing his epic stats into play, turning a normal mech into something more along the lines of a War Beast.

Gives 11 bashing defense, 7 Lethal defense, and 4 aggravated defense.

    Armored Sunglasses of Analysis
This artifact allows Erik to see objects of legend, with a built method to give a natural, unique rangefinder. The legend identification is only so far as he can personally SEE, but considering he has access to orbit, as well as the telescopic senses perk, that's far indeed.

    An Old, Odd Key
This key seems to unlock all chains or locks it's used on. No one knows where Erik has it stored, or else it would be long destroyed by assassins. Ones that would just LOVE to see the Fenris Wolf bound once more, regaining his old hatred.

    Laser Katana MK 5
The newest prototype of the line, this looks suspiciously like out of the game No More Heroes. Pretty much a laser with a trick set of mirrors, amplifying and enhancing the laser beam and keeping it constantly going back and forth along the "blade", to provide what seems to be one cutting line made of a laser, but is actually 5.

+3 Accuracy, + 10 Aggravated, 12 on second cut, waterproofed, battery powered, 15 rounds. Once ignited, the laser is effectively in existence until something is "cut". However, due to the issues with Erik's divinity, this is malfunctioning, and cannot produce the normal amounts of power.

    Toolbox of Useful Equipment MK2
The original was a toolbox that had anything you'd want to use for building, or repairing things, no matter what the things were. Including welding gear. This revision has a built in workshop, because Wayland Smith was pure bullshit as a smith.

    Other Relics of Erik's:
    The Wolfen
Originally 500 feet long the Wolfen has grown to a whopping Kilometer in length from when it was first built. This towering prototype aerial battleship has a built in illusion spell (10 legend to re-cloak after each shot fired) and is probably by far the most broken weapon Erik has, with a nasty iset of issues. No shields. More than no shields, firing drops the cloak. So for all the ability to fire absurd amounts per second (literally at that), the ship is best used for an alpha strike, or an aircraft/mech carrier rather than the floating fortress it is.

This massive aerial behemoth is fueled by one fusion reactor and two nuclear reactors at all times, to keep it powered. There's 14 spare nuclear reactors hidden through the ship in case of damage to the main reactors, as well. (Again. Norse God of Paranoia.)

Due to this, it's utilized much as a Klingon Bird of Prey would, tactically. Yes, it has the firepower to lay waste to a city with ease. Yes, it has two nuclear weapons right now. Yes, it has 150 fully armed mecha, equal to the golems made by Caster of Black.

    Armor: 15
    Health Points: 250,000
    Weapons:
    Laser cannons: 20
Speed 3 seconds, 5 Aggravated Damage, cuts through most things, including metal, like a hot knife through butter.
    Rail Guns: 40
Speed 1-12 seconds, 3-14 Lethal Damage, the round penetrates
    Missile Launchers: 6
Speed 6 seconds, 50 Lethal Damage, with a Shockwave that takes 10 off for every 10 feet you are away from the explosive in question
    Bomb Launchers: 6
Speed 6 seconds, 100 Lethal Damage, and same characteristics for the shockwave damage
    Spine Mounted Railgun: 1
Speed 12 Seconds, 105,600 Lethal Damage (Shockwave characteristics again. This time I had to figure out what would likely kill everything within 1-2 miles.
Nuke Launcher. Need I say more?
    Plasma Cannon: 1
Speed 60 seconds, 40 Aggravated Damage, cuts through most things like a hot knife through butter.

Carries 150 mecha for the Legion of Coal to use.
Can produce 4 units of the Legion of Coal for 1/4th of a Cubic Yard of steel per minute.

With 50,000 Legion of Coal units on board, this machine can be repaired for 25,000 per minute in combat. In other words for every 1000 of the Legion of Coal, 500 hp can be repaired. Alternatively, the Legion of Coal can be utilized to keep loading the weapons manually, lowering fire rate for bombs, missiles and the standard rail guns all down to 1 second per shot fired.

Furthermore, the Plasma cannon is a recent new addition to the Wolfen. Unlike the rail guns, or the lasers, or the bombs, this shoots a lance of Plasma that is effectively a poor man's turbolaser, at the cost of nearly burning out all the electronics involved. (Erik got extremely, absurdly lucky with his rolls before the fight with Jormungandr. I haven't rolled all of the changes to his stats, yet, though.)

However, the Wolfen is a prototype, and as a prototype it has more issues. A lot of weapons and minor equipment have a tendancy to fail at the worst possible time for the Wolfen, much like the Millenium Falcon had issues in Star Wars.

    Gem of Power
Ye old Legend Battery. Holds 288 legend in it. It's a gemstone. He got the idea of it after watching Tamamo play all the Sonic games, via Time Travel. It doesn't work nearly how he designed it, but he leaves it as a "Good enough to function" relic anyways.

    Upgraded Rebreather Shells:
In Erik's adventures, he found quite a few nautilus shells that would allow the wearer to breathe underwater for an hour straight. He took them, and upgraded them heavily, coating them with metals that would soak in the enchanted power of the shells, and make the metal "shells" have the function that the originals did. The few that he has, are all built into most power armor or space suits he produces.

It took a few years, but he has a couple production lines somewhere in the Wolfen, just churning these out. Something along the lines of 1 per week.

    3 Different Mecha
Yes. They're huge. Yes. They're big. But spoilers for what machines he HAS, except for the whole "Prototype Veritech as one of them" bit. There's gotta be SOME neat stuff for you all to look forwards to in the future...

    Wolf Home
A massive, half mile sphere, Erik got ideas on this after playing through Sonic the Hedgehog 2. More concrete ideas were had after Tamamo abused time travel to play Sonic 3, as well as Sonic and Knuckles, both Sonic Adventure games, etc. Then came back with the play through tapes taken on home video, so they could figure out if the games could be an idea for his mecha.

The result of this was this hidden base being constructed at the South Pole, then told to go crazy over building more of the Legion of Coal to help defend it.

Currently not armed, due to all weapons being moved to the 75 Aerial Battleships that were lost.

    Relics that aren't functioning:
    Erik's Hoverpod, the Wolf Wing
This hoverpod was coated with the hide of the dragon Fafnir, and with the mystical connection now cut between Erik's blood and the hide, the hide has been destroyed, leaving it a pile of mechanical parts. Erik has the materials to remake it, but it's likely not going to be nearly as strong as it was before.

Gifted to him by his teacher in smithing, Wayland Smith, Erik used this as a cockpit for quite a few machines.

    Wolf's Wrath
Originally the Wolfson's wrath, this was renamed after the original Wolf's Wrath was found to be a grand home indeed by Fenris, and renamed to be Wolf Home.
This titan machine was designed to be more humanoid in appearance than most other machines Erik has built, with a small bedroom turned into a Domain. However, with every Domain's destruction when moving from one universe to another, the Domain collapsed and took the reactors inside WITH it, frying out most of the circuitry in the process.

Effectively it's been scrapped, and is only good for the hull and frame, for what's LEFT of the frame.

    Chest of Wonders:
When it worked, it could duplicate materials and metals put inside it. It's effectively melted for the inside. Erik REALLY isn't sure what happened with this, and is rather confused as to why there's GOO inside, rather than what was inside BEFORE.

Might be that going through the space between universes broke it. Or not. But it's going on a one way trip to the sun to deal with it asap. Or given to Zelretch. Or SOMETHING.

    1/3rd of the Wolfen's Weapons
Not that Erik KNOWS this, yet. He'll figure it out sooner or later, though.

    Relics that have been lost:

Dragonhide Trenchcoat, made from Fafnir's skin allowed Erik to transform into a dragon if he wished. He never once used it, keeping it as an ace in the hole. And now it's gone.

    The Heart of Winter
This nasty little piece of work was, in the eyes of Frost Giants, able to drop a 3 mile chunk of ice onto the planet Earth. It was destined to bring about the Fimbulwintr, their idea of Armageddon. And now it's missing. Joy.

All 4 domains, and the people within them. From a population of 3,000 to 230 people being left.
All relics in the domains, stored for if an emergency happened. (And considering Erik is a God of Engineering and Innovation, perhaps hundreds, or even thousands were lost. Especially since you can make them with Meteorite Iron... and he's definitely, DEFINITELY stocked up on that.)

Most of Tamamo's equipment has been lost, barring her shield, clothes, and weapon.

All of Fenris' equipment has been lost, except for armor belonging to a young Fenrirspawn.

    Materials:
    Erik Currently has:

Erik has approximately 15 years worth of nuclear power for the Wolfen and Wolf Home.
Approximately 13 battles worth of spare parts for each mecha, or enough material to build the mecha on board meant for the Legion of Coal 13 times.
Meteorite Iron enough to build 2 more Oversized Mechs as relics, or, depending, either a second copy of the Wolfen, or Wolf Home.
5 months worth of food and water, and 10 months worth of air for his colonists.
2 weeks worth of food for himself, Tamamo, Fenris and Nestor.
Enough metal and equipment to build a second Wolf Home, or a second Wolfen.
Enough materials to make 15 or so Relics left.
Erik has lost due to the Domains collapsing:
57 years of food and water.
27 thousand mecha acting as a royal guard for Tamamo's domain.
870 thousand units of the Legion of Coal that were stuck in Tamamo's domain, helping her with constructing a new set of Relics.
Several thousand tons worth of supplies that could craft relics, meant for producing more and selling to young Scions at a good price, also stored in Tamamo's domain at the time of collapse. Approximately several thousand relics worth of material.

    Followers/Troops:

Erik, Tamamo and Fenris all have a collective of 230 followers, which give a total of 23 legend a day to them.

Captain Nestor is a follower, who happily lives his life as captain of the Wolfen. He's a simple man, with simple needs. He brought with him a crew that has become as loyal as life itself to Nestor and Erik both, ones who love living in space.

The Scylla was a modern attempt at recreating the original Scylla, by a demigod influenced by the Titans. Erik realized that with the Scylla, he could have weapons fire at once. Now, computers are upgraded to the point where Erik doesn't NEED the Scylla to fight in mechs with him, so the Scylla works as a defense system in the Wolfen. He can link himself to members of the Legion of Coal, enhancing their abilities with his own. However, as a creation of the Titans, he cannot grow stronger from the point where he is. He can develop more, up to epic levels of 4, for certain things, but with how little he is in combat, he doesn't even worry about generating legend like the others do. It's not like his legend pool is ever going to GROW, after all.

That doesn't mean he can't grow SMARTER, however.

    The Scylla:
    Attributes:
    Strength: 15 Epic: 5 Charisma: 5 Perception: 5 Epic: 5
    Dexterity: 10 Epic: 4 Manipulation: 5 Intelligence: 10 Epic: 3
    Stamina: 15 Appearance: 0 Wits: 3 Epic: 2

Craft: 7 (Fleshcrafting) Craft: 5 (Engineering) Science: 5 (Engineering)
Science: 10 (Fleshcrafting) Marksmanship: 10 Control: 5 (Mecha)
Control: 5 (Legion of Coal) Control: 5 (Wolfen) Control: 5 (Wolf Home)
Control: 5 (Airplanes) Control: 5 (Rockets) Athletics: 4
    Awareness: 4 Brawl: 5 Fortitude: 2
    Integrity: 3 Melee: 5 Thrown: 5
Craft: 7 (Cloning) Science: 7 (Cloning)

    Abilities:
Having been built with 6 tentacles, the Scylla can control six weapons, or Legion of Coal units, simultaniously. Alternatively, the Scylla can act as a leader, guiding people towards where they need to be most at. He can also possess a Legion of Coal unit, adding his strengths to their own.

Has all Hero Knacks for anything with Epic levels.

    Legend 5
    Willpower 7
    Legend Pool 25

    The Legion of Coal:
A large army of 50,000 on the Wolfen, and 800,000 on Wolf Home, this massive army may not have epic stats, but can fight toe to toe with most humans with ease due to upgrades and the fact that they're machines, rather than people. Especially considered they're all armed with lasers that have 3 seconds firing speed, 1 aggravated damage, and can cut through wood, stone, and people like a hot knife through butter. It might only burn Servants, but if enough hit, it's going to leave one nasty burn. Of course, that's IF they hit.

Damage is lowered due to it being a backpack version of the lasers on the Wolfen, powered by each's own internal generator.

Each has the ability to echolocate materials, and other things in the Earth below, as well as having a good idea of how things are made, and built.

Hardness: 5, 50 hp each, on top of 15 stamina for their interal mechanisms.
    Attributes:
    Strength: 15 Charisma: 3 Perception: 5 Epic: 1
    Dexterity: 10 Epic: 2 Manipulation:3 Intelligence: 5 Epic: 1

    Craft: 7 (Life)
Damage: 1 aggravated for the first shot, 2 aggravated for each shot after, per target.
