A humanoid shape covered in a sheet is a great way to hide many things.

I figured either doll had been moved previously or just like, kicked behind the desk, then when she wasnt looking whoever was under there got the lights and attacked her while her eyes were still adjusting to the dark. being under the sheet, the assailants eyes would handle the dark better.
