Okay, my one can be called Hugo.
    And yours will be Migo!
Today is such a wonderful day!
    Ahhh.
We’ll be together for ever and ever!
Side: That was a beautiful memory, from a day long past.

That girl had such a pure smile.
    Girl: Right, Lavinia!
    Chapter 1: Prologue
Peering at the heavens is a sea of stars.

    Heretical Salem

    Page 7:
The Organisation for the Preservation of Human Order, Chaldea predicted that the future would be extinguished through changes made to human history.
The completion of the technology rayshifting, also known as spiritron transfer, allowed for travel against the current of time.
From the holy grail war that occurred during 2004 at Fuyuki City, they intervened in 7 “Singularities”.
After a life or death struggle with the Demon God Pillars scheming to incinerate human order, they just barely managed to protect human history.
The scars of that battle are still deeply felt within Chaldea
as they are forced to deal with the new subspecies singularities appearing one after the other.

    Page 8:
    Sanson: Hm… Not bad.
Servant (Assassin) Decapitation Executioner Charles-Henri Sanson
Sanson: No, it’s actually well made.
    Mash: Good morning, Sanson!
Mash: A late breakfast, is it?
Chaldea staff member, acting director’s assistant Mash Kyrielight

    Page 9:
Mash: That smells really good! Is it a, um, crepe?
    Sanson: Morning, Mash.
Sanson: This is a buckwheat flour galette. It’s a flavour from my homeland, Paris.
It’d go well with Cedar, but…
    Right, that’s it!
Mash: Actually, it seems a thief entered the kitchen last night.
Mash: Since Mr. Holmes is currently occupied, I’m searching for the culprit in his place.
    Mash: Detective duty.
    Robin: Arrgh… so sore…
    Robin: I don’t feel good…

    Page 10:
    Good morning— wait!
    Are you okay, Robin!?
Robin: Don’t worry about the greetings, Lady Mash.
Servant (Archer) Faceless Hunter of the Forest Robin Hood
    Mash: Eeu…
Mash: You stink of alcohol, Robin.
Sanson: It must have been a lot to get a Servant hung over.
Sanson: First, drink this soup. You need to replenish your liquid and salt levels first.
Sanson: If the alcohol still isn’t gone, you should dilute your stomach acid using baking soda dissolved in water.

    Page 11:
Robin: No way I could drink that minerally smelling stuff!
Mash: Could you tell me what happened?
    Robin: Well,
Robin: If it’s a request from Lady Mash, I’ve got no choice.
You see, last night I got dragged into the writers’ drinking party.
There weren’t any red flags there, just a dirty old banquet.
I only remember up to the point where Amadeus barged in and we ran out of drink though…
Sanson: You wouldn’t have happened to raid the kitchen while running errands last night, would you?
Robin: Oh? Now that you mention it,
Robin: I don’t feel that it maybe didn’t happen?

    Page 12:
Mash: And the culprit was caught easily.
    Sanson: It’s a bit of a letdown.
    Robin: He he.
Robin: Oh my, what elegance. My lord noble using a knife and fork this early in the morning.
    Sanson: I’m no noble!
    Mash: Aahhhah
    Robin: Oh?
Robin: But you’re definitely not one of us lowly peasants, right?

    Page 13:
    Ok, that’s enough!
Rikka: Be good adults and stop fighting first thing in the morning!
Rikka: The two of you are both Servants, so you need to respect each other!
(Master) Fujimaru Rikka Chaldea’s only remaining active Master.

    Page 14:
    Mash: Senpai!
    Mash: Good morning!
    Rikka: Morning Mash!
Rikka: You’re looking really fluffy again today
Robin: Fighting? That’s definitely an exaggeration, Miss!
    Robin: We were just…
    Rikka: Ro- bi- nnnn???
Rikka: I saw it all, you know?
    Robin: Ugh.
    Robin: This was my bad!
Robin: My hangover should be over soon.

    Page 15:
    ARRRRRRR
    ARRRRRRR
    Mash: 3rd level alert status!
Mash: It’s an alert to gather because of a distant anomaly!
    Robin: Owowowow!
Robin: That noise pierces straight through my head!
Rikka: Let’s head to the control room, Mash!
    Mash: Got it, Senpai!

    Page 16:
Mash: You’ve got a bit of bedhead here, Senpai.
Da Vinci: All-right! Stop flirting so early in the morning, you two!
    Mash: U- understood!

    Page 17
Da Vinci: The warning just now came from North America area 1.
Da Vinci: While there is a large amount of magical energy, the threat level is still fairly low.
Da Vinci: Our investigators on the ground are cooperating with the North American Magecraft Association.
Head of Chaldea’s technical development department and acting director Servant (Caster) Leonardo Da Vinci.
Da Vinci: Specifically, it’s this place.

    Page 18:
This image was just taken from an orbital satellite.
It’s on the east coast of the United States. In Massachusetts, just north of Boston.
It should still be night there, but, hold on…?
Da Vinci: That’s right. This “darkness”.
Da Vinci: A circular area of 7km radius has been literally covered in darkness.
This isn’t a power outage or a weather phenomenon, but the results of magecraft.
    Rikka: !?
Over 50,000 citizens have suddenly disappeared, as far as our sensors can tell.
America’s leaders are at their wits end trying to deal with this.

    Page 19:
Rikka: You mean, the people inside are…
Mash: In the centre of the darkness,
Mash: There should be a harbour town near this inlet here.
Mash: If I remember correctly, the name was
    Geronimo: Salem.
Geronimo: For us, and for the whites, it is a very cursed ground.

    Page 20:
    Geronimo!
Servant (Caster) proud warrior of the Apache clan Geronimo.
Mash: Was it where that happened…
Geronimo: There have been three tragedies that occurred in Salem.
Geronimo: The first tragedy was when the whites brought the plague with them when crossing that land.
Geronimo: The second was when the whites waged war on our ancestors because of their resentment.
Geronimo: The third led to the whites distrusting and killing each other—

    Page 21:
    The witch trials.
Rikka: I’ve heard about the witch hunts, but I don’t know much.
    Mash: Right.
Mash: It was towards the end of the 1600’s. They began with the testimony of girls that were thought to be possessed by the devil.
Mash: The townspeople suspected them of being witches, and they were prosecuted one after the other. In the end, 19 people were executed.
Mash: It was an awful event.
Geronimo: That’s what “cursed ground” means.

    Page 22:
Da Vinci: Right now, on that “cursed ground”, an unknown abnormal phenomenon is occurring.
Da Vinci: And this is a “magecraft phenomenon” outputting huge amount of magical energy.
    Rikka: Is it
    Rikka: The runaway Demon God—
Da Vinci: Looking at the big picture, the Demon God Pillars that escaped after Goetia’s destruction,
Da Vinci: It’s quite likely that that this is one of them planning something.
Rikka: We need to head to Salem immediately!
    I can’t agree with that.

    Page 23:
Geronimo: There’s no proof that this isn’t just a distraction.
Geronimo: More that the other Demon God Pillars, this one has been carefully biding its time.
Geronimo: And this Demon God Pillar isn’t even trying to hide its evil intentions.
Da Vinci: That’s right. This time they’re clearly using a different method that in Shinjuku or Agartha.
Da Vinci: That part is really bothering me right now!
Da Vinci: There are domains that even self-sacrifice doesn’t allow you to reach.
Da Vinci: The two of you should know that by now.
Da Vinci: This is where we need to slow down and form a plan, right!

    Page 24:
    Rikka: But having said that,
Rikka: I still can’t seem to calm down.
    Mash: Don’t worry, Senpai.
Mash: The staff on location are doing their best as well.
Mash: We should just do what we can right now!
Rikka: By the way Mash, you’re like a walking encyclopedia!
Mash: Ah, it’s just that I’ve been reading a lot recently.
Mash: Studying so that I could help out a little.

    Page 25:
Mash: I’ve lost the power of a heroic spirit.
Mash: I can’t help out as your Demi-Servant anymore, you see.
    Rikka: Don’t worry!
Rikka: Even now, you’re doing more than enough to support me!
Rikka: I you weren’t here Mash, I wouldn’t be able to go on!
Rikka: Let’s do our best together, okay?
    Mash: Ok, Senpai!

    Page 26:
    Hehe
Sorry to keep you waiting, ladies and gentlemen. The preparations for our plan are almost complete.
Salem, in the centre of North America’s east coast. It has been 72 hours since the large-scale disappearance incident.
Da Vinci: From here on, we will call this dark space the “Mist”.
    Page 27:
    (Caster) Edison.
It has expanded to a radius of 7km and remains steady.
    (Caster) Shakespeare
    (Caster) Andersen
It reaches vertically to 600 metres. You should consider it unable to leave those bounds.
    (Caster) Medea.
An unmanned reconnaissance drone was sent in, but all communication sensors lost functionality.
Unfortunately, people and animals, even birds cannot leave or enter.
With the magical bounding field set up, even magus familiars aren’t an exception.
    However, there is just one.
One case, that came back last night successful.
Da Vinci: Please look at this.

    Page 28:
Made from oak trees and cast-iron nails. Using whale whiskers, we created a mechanized doll.
A robot made only with technology from the middle ages. This is a sketch self-reproduced from its crystal eyes showing what’s inside the Mist.
Edison: Ooh, this is certainly Salem!
Edison: This is the sight of a peaceful village where kind believers live with integrity!
Edison: But... However, this is definitely not the current era!
Mash: Yes, it matches recorded data from the 17th century.
Mash: What’s shown inside is Salem of the colonial period!

    Page 29:
Rikka: Is that the witch trials Geronimo was talking about?
Mash: Prior to our one success, many attempts were made. Through this, we’ve understood that any structure further in the future than that time will be eliminated.
Mash: Additionally, and this information comes from the near future observation lens “Shiba”,
    There are people inside there!
    !?
It also seems they are living normally in 17th century Salem.

    Page 30:
Holmes: Why, in a magecraft field in the current time, has 17th century life resumed in Salem?
Holmes: Why has Shiba reacted to the current phenomena that is unobservable?
Holmes: On the contrary, these baffling phenomena will hand us the thread that allows us to develop a plan.
Servant (Ruler) “The one who clarifies” Sherlock Holmes
That is, a same period rayshift!
Not travelling through time, but transferring the area to within the magecraft field.
While continuing to maintain a connection with Chaldea, we should be able to break through.

    Page 31:
However, there are two conditions for this mission.
The first is that this will be the final rayshift.
Mash: We have received the prediction from Chaldeas that this Demon God Pillar will be the last to appear on earth.
Mash: It has been decided that after this jump, the rayshift technology will be sealed away.
Da Vinci: We’ve already suspended Chaldea’s nuclear reactor.
Da Vinci: You should consider that transferring a few people, plus returning the situation to normal will be the limit.
And now, for the second condition.

    Page 32:
Shakespeare: To be exact, you will follow this outline we’ve refined with all our might.
Shakespeare: We’ll have you infiltrate Salem as a travelling troupe!
    Rikka: Huh?
    Rikka: Haaaaaaaa?
Holmes: From our analysis so far, we’re certain that an unknown compulsion is working from within Salem.
Holmes: We’ve decided that the most logical method is to continue without alerting the Demon God Pillar to our existence within the magecraft field it created.
Andersen: Seriously, the sudden request for this manuscript really messed up my plans!
Andersen: Look! These shadows under my eyes are a real nuisance!

    Page 33:
    Rikka: No way!
Rikka: We couldn’t possibly perform well enough to suit a script you guys have written…
Shakespeare: Not to worry! This time we don’t require skilled acting.
Shakespeare: The main thing we need is for you to fill out your roles within the troupe.
Da Vinci: As for the actor candidates, the Servants who will go on this infiltration mission,
Da Vinci: They’ve been selected after consulting with William.
Rikka: You’ll be travelling with us, of course. Right, Geronimo?
Geronimo: In that era having me along will probably just create unnecessary complications.
Geronimo: Sorry I can’t be of help, Master.

    Page 34:
Rikka: But if that’s the case,
Is it okay for Medea to come with us?
Servant (Caster) “Witch of Betrayal Medea
    I mean, Medea’s a real life…
    Edison: That’s right!
Edison: Sending a real witch to a land of witch hunters? That’s going to far, even for the geniuses!
    Andersen: What lion-like justice.
    Shakespeare: Damn right!
Medea: Stop making such a racquet! There’s not going to be any problems!
    Mash: !?
Da Vinci: In fact, for understanding the boundary between magecraft and superstition, no-one is better suited than her.
Da Vinci: But, Medea, what brought about the change of mind?

    Page 35:
Last night you called this plan an insult to yourself, and strongly refused…
    Medea: Eh? Ah, um…
Medea: Y…yesterday I was just in a bad mood, was all.
Medea: I’m still thinking about it now, you know!
Andersen: Did you scavenge some food from the bins or something?
Medea: Anyhow, the one who gives the final decision is Master.
Medea: Isn’t that right? Cute mister writer!
Rikka: The other members are Mata Hari and the newly arrived Nezha…
Rikka: Sanson and Robin? Will those two be okay together?
    …Huh?
    Rikka: Mash?

    Page 36:
    Mash: I… I can’t come with you.
    Mash: I wasn’t considered from the beginning…
    Mash: I’m no longer a Demi-Servant.

Da Vinci: We’ll now prepare for rayshifting.
Da Vinci: Selected members, gather as soon as possible for the briefing.

    Page 37:
    Mash: Senpai!
    Mash: So the briefing’s over?
    Rikka: Yeah…
Rikka: What are you doing, Mash?

    Page 38:
Mash: I’ve memorised the outline for the mission, as well as the writers’ script…
Mash: Not that there’s any need to remember it if I’m not going along.
Mash: I’m sorry I couldn’t be of help to you all.
Mash: But, there’s nothing to be done about that.
    !
Look at the time Senpai! You need to get going!
    Ah, right!
    Page 39:
Rikka: I can’t believe I’m not allowed to take the script with me.
Rikka: Even the assistant’s need to be there.
Rikka: Learning the whole script… That’s impossible with my memory.
    Rikka: Ahh
    Mash: Senpai… I hadn’t thought of that!

    Page 40:
    Da Vinci: Is everyone prepared?
Da Vinci: This will be the last command given for the remnant order.
Da Vinci: Master will at this moment be dispatched for subspecies singularity Salem!
    (Archer) Robin Hood
    (Lancer) Nezha
And with the prompter, Mash, that makes seven!

    Page 41:
    (Assassin) Sanson
    (Caster) Medea
    (Assassin) Mata Hari
Go stop the Demon God Pillar’s schemes and rescue those 50000 civilians!

    Page 42:
The “Prompter”, reminding the actors on stage of their lines from behind.
It seems to have hit a sore spot of Miss Mash.
Shakespeare: Lord Geronimo and Lady Da Vinci are against her going along, I’m sure.
Shakespeare: No matter how perfect the script, it’s meaningless if it can’t be acted out.
Shakespeare: With this group of hastily gathered amateurs, her influence may be critical to their success.

    Page 43:
Geronimo: An all-female travelling troupe in that period…
Geronimo: Even if it’s a well thought out plan, sending Master and Mash along makes me anxious.
    Medea: h… hey
    Shakespeare: !?
Medea: Where’s Master? Has everyone already left?
    Me… Medea!?

    Page 44:
Andersen: Why the hell are you here!
Medea: Tha… That wasn’t me. I’d been put to sleep until now.
Medea: It was someone in disguise… A camouflage!
An enemy who can outwit a witch…
    Then…
Who was the Medea who went to Salem!

The female protagonist here is named Fujimaru Rikka rather than Fujimaru Ritsuka, although the kanji (藤丸立香) is the same. It does help to differentiate the female and male protagonists though.
