Hum. So I'm starting Edelweiss. The editing on this is... really bad. Is the entire game this poorly edited? :\

Finished Edelweiss earlier. Wasn't really happy with it on the whole.

Thoughts on Edelweiss

So Haruka's route especially kinda pissed me off. They spent the whole route saying 'don't bring people back from the dead, focus on the living,' then go and bring her back from the dead at the very end. :| Way to ruin the entire point you're making.

Mei's route pulls off a much better ending, but it lacked the route lead up that Haruka's route had. Her route didn't have anything about not bringing her back from the dead, yet her's is the one route that the protagonist doesn't mess around with alchemy to try and fix things. 0_o

Ran was a fun girl, but her route was just... really odd.

Same for Mizuki, her route felt like a watered down version of Haruka's. Also, with a terrible message that feels really strange having played Katawa Shoujo.

I guess that leaves Natsume who was... alright, I guess?

The fandisc is miles better than the original, though I did like Mei's route at least.

Edelweiss is pretty bad in general. Only girl who was worth anything was Ran, mostly because she was pretty entertaining, and the other routes were pretty meh. The fandisk was fairly decent, though.

Rin's route... it's like they're not even trying to make the Principal sympathetic anymore? Hey, we want to study this homunculus, but it's bounded to this person. We know it'll come off on it's own in a few days, but screw waiting, let's just horribly mutilate that person instead? I mean, what the fuck? How does this line of reasoning work? Even after the reveal of the island collapse, it's not like she knew that at the time she made the decision.

No I think that she knew about the island collapse from the beginning or something like that. I still spent that whole route cringing, though.

Finished Cross Channel. It was... kinda weird. I'd rate it as decent, but probably could have been better.

some thoughts

Miki's route was definitely the most enjoyable. Going up against someone else who was in the know about the repeating days was pretty interesting, and Miki's the most fun of the heroines. As is my complaint with the entire VN though... it was good, but it could have been better.

Ultimately, it just feels like it needed more substance, as it were. It wound up feeling very shallow most of the way through. The ending was kind of depressing too. It was nice to get some closure by seeing everyone after their escape, but again, shallow.

Don't have too much more to add, so I'll leave it at that.

I always thought cross channel was the VN equivalent of a first rate Broadway play performed by puppets. interesting story, great themes, some interesting ideas, not afraid to be what it is. Buuuuut pretty much all the characters besides the MC sucked and their was damn near zero non MC char development. for an obvious reason of course, but there it is.

Yeah, sounds about right. It was a good read, it's just disappointing because it feels like it had the potential to be more.


Edit: Holy shit, I've started Tower of Friends and it's incredibly creepy.
Edit again: Okay, Tower of Friends was pretty short. And really creepy.

Oh yeah, when its spamming the † in ToF its trying to make you say 'Kurosu'. Which is of course Taichi's name. But if you say it many times fast enough it starts sounding like 'kill'. So yeah that's why its spamming †.

I hadn't thought of it like that, but that describes my feelings on Cross Channel as well. There is some character development for the others, in actuality, but it is too concentrated in the final portions of the game, which does not really leave room for much.
