Right now I am reading Alison Croggon's Pellinor series. I read the first couple of books a library a couple years back.
Reading What They Carried for English class, and I hate it. Ever heard that stereotype about Vietnam vets? "You wouldn't know, maaaan, you weren't there!" That's what this book is. Self pity and "You wouldn't understand," cover to cover.
Except the entire selection is spent showing you how these guys are understandable. That's kind of the point. :P
<NEW FIC!> Revolution #9: Somewhere out there, there's a universe in which your mistakes and failures never happened, and all you wished for is true. How hard would you fight to make that real?

You really can't expect people to be very smart when they're forced to read things. I found my copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude in the basement. At a guess, mom got it in a garage sale, since every ten pages has the idiotic scrawls of some kid bitching about the book. My eraser has been my friend.
Also, mod ship? Five x Leo?
Five x Leo is OTP.

Democracy on Beast's Lair
It's like...he set out to write his story to illustrate his viewpoint, only to realize that he was wrong, so he changed the story to make himself right. Read the bit about what a "true war story" is, and then, as you go through the rest of the book, remember that he had to publish the book as fiction, because that's what it really is.
I'd say it relates to Erich Maria Remarque's introductory line in All Quiet on the Western Front:
"This book is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped shells, were destroyed by the war."
