The Book Lair - all book talk ITT

A thread to discuss what people at Beast Lair are currently reading, from books to manga to comics, even some random pamphlet you found on the road, you can discuss it here.

Right now, I'm reading the entire Sword of truth series, despite the fact that my job ended and should really be updating my fics...

I recently finished the second book of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Another series I've heard of, I'll give it a try sometime.

Since all good recommendations deserve another, have you read the Chronicles of Chrestomanci by Diane Wynne Jones, they're really great.

I've read a few books of Diana Wynne Jones, those which have translated into Finnish. Both two Derkholms and all three Castles. But now when I googled, I noticed that also three books of Chrestomanci has been translated last year. Must read them too, I really like her writing style.

I also noticed one sad thing when googled: She has passed away in March this year.

Rest in peace, Diana Wynne Jones.

Edit: Wikipedia tells "In mid-2010 she was halfway through a new book with plans for another to follow." But she died before those were ready.
    Small but dangerous!

I'm reading a bunch of different stories, one being the Harry Potter series, but only to write fan stories about it (and to correct many flaws found in it).

Just re-read Gates of Fire. It's on the battle of Thermopylae, but far more realistic than 300 was, and more awesome for the fact.

    Counterguardian needs to go deeper?

Picked up the first in the Codex Alera series, by Jim Butcher, from a library I don't visit all that often- they were selling it. FOR THIRTY PENCE. Got lucky that day.

Also, if you count audiobooks as "reading", then I suppose I'm "reading" the Dresden Files series. Again. Audiobooks are amazing for exercise- I can go for hours just listening to one, and I've almost finished the series in a couple days, despite the audiobooks being ~8 hours long.

But then, once they're done, I have no real motivation to exercise any more. Anyone have any suggestions for books along those same lines?

Are audiobooks really any good? It doesn't have the concept of actually 'reading' so I never thought much of it.

Still reading Wizard's First Rule, and I have to admit, I'm finding it kind of tedious.

Also, has anyone her read the Shannara Chronicles?
