I liked Mat better under Sanderson.
He seemed more self-aware in his comedy.

The Working Poor: Invisible in America by David K. Shipler.

Pretty anxiety provoking for me. Shouldn't really have been surprised at how relevant it still is.

Is this before or after Sanderson takes over?
its already happening before, but sanderson wrote about a third of it

i think 2 or 3 volumes before? its a pretty slow burn. but a satisfying and convincing one (imo)

Been reading The Dark Prophesy- second book in Riordan's Trials Of Apollo series lately. It's been a good read but I'm really not sure at all where Rick pulled all this stuff on Hemithea from. I actually searched her up online out of curiosity, and there doesn't seem to have been anything to do with her becoming a huntress of Artemis as Riordan depicted her or even really associated with Artemis at all (beyond what seem to me some fairly weak name-associations). Obviously Riordan often takes artistic license with the myths to some degree to better integrate into the story, but it feels odd in this case to turn a mythical "literally who?" into someone who's done so much stuff.

Well, that's my nitpicking and likely totally unfounded literary criticism for today, anyways. As a whole though, the book is really good so I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

At least having Apollo as the POV character freshens things up somewhat.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. I like Riordan's work, but he's basically a one-trick pony who just wears a differently-coloured saddle every once in a while.
    My fanfics:
    The Gift (a Fate/Stay Night one-shot)
    - A duel between Cú Chulainn and Scáthach.
Passion Acknowledged (a Fate/Stay Night one-shot) (Lemon) - Shirou and Shinji finally acknowledge their feelings.
    He Was a Good King (a Fate/Stay Night one-shot) - A short exploration of Beowulf's character as a hero and a king.

He's doing Norse mythology too now, which is fairly different...

And he already did Egyptian mythology as well. See "differently-coloured saddle". :-)

Ah, I kind of do my best to block out the whole Egyptian mythology deal. (Only read the first book and it was a major drop in quality compared to his other stuff)

Percy Jackson series aside, The Heroes of Olympus was the other good one, IMO. The others were kind of okay-ish.

    ---

Like what SpoonyViking said, it kind of gets a little repetitive after a while.

Heroes Of Olympus came off to a kind of iffy start, but it got back to the author's usually high standards from the 2nd book onward.

Jason was not nearly as compelling a protagonist as Percy, but thankfully he was mostly sidelined in favor of more interesting characters...
