(Actually, I did have a crossover idea where Xanatos gets involved in a Grail War in America and purposely summons Archer. A self made hero for a self made man.)
How could it be purposeful?
I mean, I could buy Xanatos figuring out how to summon a Servant, but how would he know about Archer?
Xanatos partaking in a Holy Grail war is kinda unfair, don't you think?
The one saving grace I can think of is that he might not know what he's getting into. I mean, it's not as if he hasn't overestimated himself a few times or gotten involved with things he didn't really understand.
I could actually see him pulling another Gil, since, as I understand it, the one we know andhatelove is a reflection of the Gil in the Throne of Heroes, which could lead to some wonderful Gil x Gil rage...
You know he probably has contacts in the Mage's Association. Hell, he might have hired Rin as a consultant and got her to open up about the war.
His thoughts:
