It doesn't matter if it's mandatory or not, it's stupid. I think you are missing my point, which is that I don't like stupid things. If the outfit wasn't stupid, I wouldn't dislike it. But at least they aren't adding slapstick and terrible humor to every serious scene, so it's not like this is the worst thing to have the Persona 4 name on it.
