Right, impressions after a few hours of using it.
Reported framerates and benchmark scores are approx the same as my old 970 SLI setup. But it feels way better. There was weird stuttering before which didn't really show up in FPS counters but made gameplay feel awful. I'm fairly sure it was when the VRAM was getting full.
Anyone remember that tech demo that got showed off with the kid running around with a kite? Epic just released it publicly.
Gonna download it now, I meet the target spec.Target spec:
CPU: 6 core @3.3GHz
RAM: 24 GB RAM
GPU: GTX 980
31GB Storage Space
Min spec:
CPU: 4 core @ 2.8ghz
RAM: 8GB RAM
GPU: GTX 680
I really really want Square Enix to release their Witch Cry or Agni's Philosophy demos but they never will
Edit: Hmm, there's a few interesting tech demos here actually (In the Unreal Engine Launcher). Just tried the "realistic rendering" one.

Hm. I missed that Kite demo. Though must admit I'm not paying super close attention to all the tech news these days.
I like the music in it
6.3gb download... hmmm....
One must know the path one runs even if the ground underfoot is not as one chooses
Thinking about that Potato Masher business. Can't do it now, but towards the end of the summer I might be able to.
Yeah, it's pretty cool. They had some extreme cost cutting going on there though, so if you can put a little more towards some extra RAM and some other bits you should have a good machine that will last a while.
I have 8 gigs from last summer's aborted fundraising, but I don't know if it's compatible or whatever, having never had a rig.
I'm guessing it's DDR3 if it was from the past few years? Should be fine.
Actually I think I also bought a... was it a motherboard? I don't remember but if it was that or a video card that's a chunk of change I don't have to worry about.
Why did you buy a bunch of random stuff?
I had a list of things I was getting over the summer, then lost the second job I had that was funding it, so the PC plan fell through.
new AMD cards
can't wait for benchmarks

Unless they blow us away with a surprise.
the 300 series are apparently the exact same chipset as the 200 series, just with more ram and better bandwidth

Yeah they are, Fury is new though.
I was going to buy a new laptop, but instead I'll be upgrading my meager 2011 i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM and a cheapo Samsung 850EVO 500GB SSD.
Maybe replace the optical drive with a second HD, too.
And replace the lost rubber feet.
I may even be able to play Witcher 2/Dark Souls 1 on low settings!
don't quote me on this
