Just checked out the first ep of Cells At Work this morning.

What an incredibly cute and fun show. I remember as a kid I went through a phase of anthropomorphizing cells in the human body and whatnot, so this is really a blast from the past for me. With the episodic format and simplistic but endearing characters it honestly feels like it could've been an old Saturday morning cartoon show, if not for the hyperviolence when White slaughters all those germs anyways.

Most definitely have. I loved that movie back when I was a kid (even if I wasn't a fan of the gross-out RL parts), and undoubtedly would have loved this show as well.

Watched Yamada-kun and 7 Witches, I'm surprised there is no doujin of this series, with the kiss-switch gimmick I expecting it to be more popular.

I finally rewatched and finished Persona 4 the Animation after I stopped at Episode 24, it was really amazing. The stuff the anime did with Adachi was so good, it truly showed how horrible he was. It just makes me hate how they have him show up in more Persona 4 games.

The final battle could have been done better though, I would have preferred if they went to confront Izanami like how it was in the game. And why did they have to have Never More play in both endings, it's a good song, but it makes me so sad even after all this time.

I guess I'll watch Fate/Extra Last Encore now, I hope it will be worth the long wait.

I finally decided to watch the Basilisk anime after having been a fan of the manga for years. It's certainly very pretty and mostly does a good job of adapting the material, but you can tell they struggled to stretch the briskly paced manga into 24 TV episodes.

Case in point: One of the Koga ninjas mentions early on that he hates the Iga for having killed his father. Makes sense as a motivation. That's really all we need as an audience. So of course the anime takes that one little kernel and stretches into half an episode's worth of content. Yeah, sure, I needed flashback to tell me that Ninja A had a dad, dad died, son was sad. You already told me that.

Still, pretty great show, which isn't surprising when I loved the source material so much.

Then I made the mistake of watching the completely unnecessary sequel series that came out years later and wasn't based on anything the original author wrote... and yeah, I can see why this is universally reviled. It's been okay-to-dull so far, which is fine in and of itself, but it's coming on the heels what is pretty much a universally loved series. The bar was set too high.

Since "Aura Battler Dunbine" is now availabe on legal streaming and I hadn't watched it in over a decade, I figured I'd give it a re-watch to see if it holds up.

It certainly does, the whole medieval fantasy being defiled by the introduction of humans and their robots concept was super interesting. The power of "Aura" allows for some really cool fights and that explosive finale where you're on the edge of your seat as you don't know who will die at any moment.

A really great Isekai series and probably my favourite of Tomino's non-Gundam works. <3

    Internet high five for Dunbine!

Kind of a shame that a lot of Tomino's work is brushed aside in favor of all that Gundam. I'm a huge fan of that franchise, but Gundam lacks that je ne sais quoi of Dunbine.

I really do need to get around to watching the Wings of Rean prequel OVA now that we're talking about this.

Mmm. I've been trying to go back and collect as much of his non-Gundam work as possible. The only major one left that I haven't seen is "Heavy Metal L-Gaim".

I think with Dunbine the key came from the fact that Tomino was just the director and was balanced out by having Sukehiro Tomita be the writer. I've found that Tomino tends to be much more hit and miss when he tries to do both on a show.

Wings of Rean is a curious one. It's a distant sequel to the original novel series that Dunbine was based on which didn't have any mecha in it so I'd be curious to watch it and see how it all fits in.

Hm. I'd prefer a medieval Gundam setting over Dunbine.

Now that I think about it, if Divers had done something like this it might've stood out a bit more than just being another generic MMORPG anime.

Goblin Slayer left me in need of more fantasy fix so I binged Overlord Season 2 in an afternoon.

Sebas is greatest butler of all time and Brain vs Shalltear Round 2 was amazing to watch. <3

Will take a few days off before binging S3.
