I would say you're missing the point of TM, but you probably don't care.
Don't feel bad, I'm always a plot person more than a character person.
When I said characters, I mean I care about their lives, as much as I care about real life person.
I can understand theme and reasoning, but not enough to feels bad about them dying.
And it'd be fitting, showing Richard's cruelty against the biggest psychopath in the war. Perhaps parallels will be drawn between the two "lionhearts" and how both possess an inhuman cruelty, just of different types. Maybe Bazdilot will also be referred to as a "lion in a man's skin"?
Speaking about fate with a bro
Spoiler:
this is a valid candidate for true berseker, for the "I can combine every weapon" stuff
and spider's legs, I knowTrue Berserker has a lion's head though.
But it's a lion mecha, so still a building walking machine

Whether he turns evil or not, Richard is still my fave in this novel and one of the reasons I picked it up (though more specifically, it was Ayaka who I was looking for more info on due to finding out Prototype didn't have so much material, then he grabbed my attention shortly after) so I'm interested in what way his character will go.
Juuuust as long as they don't make him use Ayaka as a means.
I doubt it'd be anything so black and white. It'd just add depth to his character (showing instead of telling). I don't even expect anything like a "turning evil" route for him.
Honestly all I really expect is for him to fight with a lot of bloodlust.
Basically a blood knight vs. arthur's white knight

He'll stay a good boy the whole story and in the end, sacrifice his newly obtained wish to destroy the Grail, defeat Beast Prelatti and prevent the pruning of the Strange Fake Timeline.
Alternatively, he dies before that and Grand Lancer Sigma does the job.
