Background

Black Annis (also known as Black Anna) is a bogeymanfigure in English folklore. She is imagined as a hag or witch with iron claws and a taste for human flesh (especially children). She is said to haunt the countryside of Leicestershire, living in a cave in the Dane Hills with a great oak tree at the entrance.

She is said to venture out at night looking for unsuspecting children and lambs to eat, then tanning their skins by hanging them on a tree before wearing them around her waist. Legend has it that she used her iron claws to dig her cave out of the side of a sandstone cliff, making herself a home there which is known as Black Annis' Bower Close. The legend led to parents warning their children that Assassin would get them if they did not behave. She was also known to hide in the branches of her oak tree waiting to leap upon unsuspecting prey.

Black Annis was also represented in monstrous cat form, and the legend led to a local ritual in early spring when a dead cat would be dragged before a pack of hounds in front of her bower to celebrate the end of winter. This tradition stated that Assassin (in her cat form) lived in the cellars beneath Leicester Castle and that there was an underground passage extending from the cellars to the Dane Hills along which she ran.

Barton was one of those people. A engineering genius, physiotherapist and creator of the martial art "Bartitsu" which Conan-Doyle famously misspelt. Charismatic and outgoing, Barton has an enthusiastic personality although he can be impulsive and blunt when he gets too emotional. He also has a sarcastic streak, cracking jokes even in the worst of situations and using it as a mask to appear calm and collected. Despite his connection to Sherlock Holmes, he ironically hates mysteries and puzzles - preferring things to be simple and clear.

When it comes to a Holy Grail War, Barton is at a disadvantage as he isn't strong enough to fight squarely with the Knight Class Servants. As a result, his main strategy is to use hit and run tactics to chip away at the enemy's health. Unfortunately, Barton's pride is such that he absolutely will not strike at the enemy's Master unless they are attacking his own Master or they do something so heinous he won't be able to ignore it.

His Wish upon the Holy Grail? It's something so simple it's laughable, but it is very dear to his heart. He would go back and change history so that Conan-Doyle wouldn't get the name of his martial art wrong which became repeated so often that it became a joke.

Presence Concealment - (E)
The capacity to hide one's presence as a Servant. It is a common Class Skill of the Assassin Class. Though he was not an Assassin in life, Barton's travels through Asia and subsequent study of martial arts taught him how to quiet his Ki through medative breathing techniques. It will not allow him to "disappear", but as long as he isn't in direct line of sight then Barton can mask his immediate prescence. However the enemy will still sense a Servant is nearby if Barton is within around a thousand meters.

Autoschediastic Weapon Handling - (C)
The Skill born of the core tenant of Bartitsu - "anything goes in a street fight, even using your umbrella or bicycle as a weapon". Objects in Barton's hands will be strengthed to allow them to bludgeon and pierce the flesh of Servants. However the makeshift weapons are still no match for a true Servant weapon and will be easily destroyed if they clash so it is better to use them as concealed weapons for surprise attacks. Objects belonging to other Servants are also beyond the range of this ability. On its own the Skill is of little use, but if combined with Barton's Item Construction then it will allow him to use his created weapons to do significant damage to enemy Servants which in an ambush can be devastating.

A Skill that acts as an equivalent of Item Construction due to the user's lack of magus aptitude. Barton was a engineering genius who designed and built his various treatment machines such as an electric chair for nerve stimulation and a photon ray emitter for radiation therapy. While he cannot construct anything magical in nature, as long as he has enough time and the right materials, Barton can build various tools and makeshift weapons to aid him and his Master in fighting enemies - from easily concealable weapons to hidden traps.

Performance Continuation - (B)
An alternate form of Battle Continuation. Whilst he has the normal endurance of a human, Barton can cheat though the use of his physiotherapy skills as an internal art. Through a mixture of breathing and muscle stimulation, Barton creates vibrations throughout his body that hold it in place - thus he can walk on broken legs, keep a severed arm attached to his body or even in extreme cases flex his muscles with enough force to pump blood through his body after his heart has stopped. However, this takes up an extreme amount of energy and will only last for around five to ten minutes before Barton collapses.

The culmination of Barton's studies into martial arts - whilst more of a technique than a Noble Phantasm, it serves as his trump card nevertheless. Barton believed in creating the ultimate form of self-defence, by combining striking, grappling and weapon use and moulding it all into a formless style of mixed martial arts, intended to allow the user to protect themselves in any situation much like the modern arts of Krav Maga and Jeet Kune Do. Thus it differs from person to person and Barton is no exception as his practice of physiotherapy is incorporated into his Bartistu, giving his strikes a number of effects.

Upon striking the enemy, Barton will direct his energy as vibrations across their body and into the nervous system. Normally a single strike - even if it is only a light poke - will be enough to have the vibrations destroy the enemy's body from the inside out but on Servants it isn't as effective, only spraining muscle or breaking a bone at most. Therefore Barton will have to keep the pressure on and deliver multiple strikes if he wants to actually kill another Servant. However, destruction isn't the only application Barton can do, as the nervous system rules so much of the human body he can affect the motor system and make it difficult for an opponent to move or attack the sensory system to shut down their sight and hearing or even target the brain to cause short term memory loss which while not effective on Servants does allow him to silence witnesses without resorting to killing them.

Of course Barton's studies into physiotherapy was in order to cure people of their ailments and this can certainly be done as well to a certain extent. Whether it is used on himself or his Master - wounds will be held closed, dislocated joints will be reset and even severed limbs can be re-joined to the body - all for a period of time as the vibrations keep circulating the body until they eventually dissipate.

Naturally, Barton's strikes will do nothing if he hits armour or some other protective/regenerative Skill that is resistant to force. It is also to be advised against using it multiple times on the same opponent, lest they quickly adapt to it. Therefore it is fitting that Barton is in the Assassin Class as his best chance of killing an opponent with this Noble Phantasm is to catch the enemy by surprise and rush them before they have a chance to recover.

Lore:

Born the son of a English railway engineer, Barton was educated in France and Germany. After graduating from university, he followed his father and became a railway clerk before embarking on a career as a civil engineer and surveyor. He worked for railway and mining companies in locations including Egypt, Portugal and the Straits Settlements. Eventually his travels lead him to becoming a smelting specialist for the E.H. Hunter Company in Kobe, Japan. Whilst there he studied Jujutsu in at least two styles, including the Shinden Fudo Ryū in Kobe and Kodokan Judo in Tokyo.

Upon returning to England in early 1898, Barton wrote a bunch of essays detailing the mechanical and leverage principles employed in performing various feats of strength which were published across the English speaking world. Eventually he combined these martial arts to form his own method of self-defence training, which he called "Bartitsu" (a contraction of Barton Ju-Jitsu). Over the next two years, he also added elements of British Boxing, French Savate and the La Canne style of Swiss master Pierre Vigny. Barton then set up the "Bartitsu School of Arms and Physical Culture" at 67b Shaftesbury Avenue in London's Soho district. The school offered classes in a range of self-defence disciplines and combat sports as well as physiotherapy to treat gout and rheumatism. Over the next few years, years, Barton organised numerous exhibitions of self-defence techniques and also promoted tournament competitions at music halls throughout London, in which his Bartitsu Club champions were challenged by wrestlers in various European styles.

However, the fame was but transient as after only a few years the school had to be closed down due to the machinations of a former student turned business rival. As a result, Barton mostly abandoned self-defence instruction in favour of his interests in physical therapy - establishing a series of clinics at various locations throughout London, and continued to work as a physical therapist for the remainder of his career, although he was rumoured to have continued to develop and teach Bartitsu privately into the 1920s.

The years passed by uneventfully for Barton, until he passed away in his home at the age of ninety, still a bachelor and in poverty. His legacy ended up being forgotten in a symbolic metaphor with his body being buried in an unmarked grave, somewhere in London.

During the duration of the Noble phantasm, Caster receives a great boost in strength and speed, being able to hold herself against even servants of the Knightly classes if pushed to her limits. Furthermore, she also gains access to the skill Revelation at rank B.
However, because of the strain of housing in herself something clearly out her league, Caster's spirit core will take continuous damage while the Noble phantasm is active.

Background

Benedetta Carlini (1591–1661) was a Catholic mystic and lesbian nun who lived in counter-reformation Italy. She was born to a middle-class Italian family, who were able to buy her a place in a reasonably comfortable convent at Pescia. When she was thirty, Caster was made abbess of the convent, but then reported a disturbing series of visions. Fearful that she was being harassed by demons, the other sisters confined Sister Bartolemea to her cell. Thereafter, Caster's more disturbing visions ceased, but she still encountered supernatural visitations.

These came to the attention of the counter-reformation Papacy, determined to subordinate potentially troublesome mystics if they showed any signs of independent or heretical spirituality. Although they paid three to four visits to the nunnery, it wasn't until they interrogated Sister Bartolemea that they found that Caster and Bartolemea had engaged in sexual relations.

Bartolemea's admission was enough to ensure that Caster was stripped of her primacy as abbess and held under guard for the remaining 35 years of her life. She died in 1661. Her lover, Sister Bartolomea, died one year earlier in 1660.

Caster is a nun, but she is definitely not a saint. She will probably start trying to seduce her Master right after summoning independently of gender. She prefer girls, but she doesn't have anything against boys and she also likes experimentation.
She is however still woman of faith, and besides sleeping with anyone who she gets a chance, she keeps her prayers at day, likes doing community work and can even give great life advice if she is not busy being horny.
She usually does not get along very well with others members of the clergy, it usually ends up with her furious because they cannot see beyond her sex-life and immediately dismiss her as a bad person.

If it wasn't obvious, the Sheet is a love letter to Hokuto Shinken from Fist of the North Star since said martial art is name dropped in Case Files when discussing "Baritsu". Performance Continuation was just taken from canon and had a few adjustments to make it work in Hokuto Shinken style.

Rakhsh is also incredibly intelligent able to understand complex ideas and communicate with Rider. In combat Rakhsh is able to fight as his own entity supporting Rider or as a mount keeping Rider from harm.

The conceptualization of Rider’s three layers of armor he wore into battle. Babr-e Bayan is the main and greatest part of this Noble Phantasm. Made from the skin of a dragon that Rider killed as a young man with supernatural durability. While wearing it Rider is immune to fire, water, and weapons below B Rank. As Rider is known as the man that ‘wore three layers of armor’ as long as one level of armor is able to be repaired all pieces of the armor will be instantly returned to peak condition.

One of the greatest heroes of Iranian mythology Rostam was the son of legendary hero Zal and grandson of Sam. Ever since birth Rostam was far too large for this world almost having killed his mother in child birth due to his great size. As a man Rostam couldn’t even ride any animal besides Rakhsh due to his great size destroying them. Rostam was raised by his grandfather Sam to help establish the rule of the Kayanian Dynasty. Rostam quickly became one of the strongest heroes that the world had ever seen killing a white elephant with a single blow as a child or slaying a dragon at age 14.

His most famous adventure though had to be his undergoing the Haft Kahn seven labors he went through to free the Shah Kay Kavus and his men from the demon Div-e Sepid who had captured them while they were on a military expedition and stolen their sight. Rostam and Rakhsh fought lions, dragons, and all manner of demons in before defeating the demon and restoring his chosen liege and his men’s sight. This journey is known as the Haft Kahn, or the Seven Labors. In fact many of his great adventures could be described as Kay Kavus getting captured and then Rostam saves him.

Rostam did have a son in his life but unfortunately due to the two of them never meeting before they first met on opposite sides of a war where Rostam killed his son Sohrab. Rostam’s life was unfortunately cut short through two unrelated yet connected events. First he killed one of Iran’s other greatest heroes Esfandiyar falling pray to the curse that the one who kills him will be cursed to suffer even after death, and second he was betrayed by his half brother Shagad who was jealous of his accomplishments and tricked him into falling into a well filled with poisoned swords.

Rider is a pious and honorable knight to the very end. He was the ideal that all warriors in the Shahnameh are held too. Stronger than any beast, smarter than any magician, more pious than any priest. Rider dedicated his life to his country and protecting the Kayanian dynasty. As a servant Rider sometimes considers a wish of being born small in stature and lacking skills in combat, then perhaps could he his brother and his best friend Kay could all live together in peace.

However he soon finds himself dismissing that wish as that would mean removing all the great deeds he did as a hero and all the lives he saved. Perhaps then his wish would be to prevent himself from killing Esfandiyar but then again that situation would only be resolved with one of them falling to the other and the alternative didn’t sound great to him. Maybe to prevent the misunderstanding that caused his sons death although even if they had known each others identities they were on opposite ends of a war so they would have to fight anyways. In the end Rostam is the sort of stubborn guy who despite feeling he should to change things refuses to see a problem with how he did things.

Rostam: we are lacking more middle eastern heroes, there is a bunch of interesting things in there. I am also a big fan of the noble giant archetype, which probably helps
