Let's get some love for Vampire Story by Bloble.

Description: Roa reincarnates. This is nothing new. Neither is the host, the immortal castoff and a lot of bodies left along the way. But things are going a bit differently this time around, and a Tohno is trying to pick up the pieces.
Warning: Bloody. Dark. Titles and pseudonyms instead of names. Bad end for pretty much everyone. Still fucking great.

Recommendation: Bloble takes the Roa tragedy and makes it hurt that much worse. Without giving too much away, he takes a great stab at a potentially darker ending for Tsukihime and plays it out to a logical conclusion. I was especially impressed with Red. There's the sense of his being caught up in something so much bigger than his own personal losses and not giving a shit that he's just a small fry no one really cares about. He's going to have his revenge, damn it.

That's another thing I loved about the story so much. It plays off of that Tsukihime theme of violence for violence's sake simply because it's the only thing the players really understand anymore. No one is playing the long game, even if it's a cycle that has been going on for a very long time. The violence is hedonistic in that it's committed just as much for personal satisfaction, whether it's a simple sadist doing the deed or someone so high on righteous indignation that the killing feels cathartic. There are a lot of monsters in this story, but the personalities match their bodies perfectly.

After hating something and striving something for so long, you lose the 'why' of it and slip into a state of chasing that something like a junkie chasing a high. It's fascinating and disturbing to watch.

+1 Devil's Thrill, by Polly.

Another short-story set in the obscurer reaches of the verse, in which Narbareck hunts (or for now, prepares to hunt) Blackmore. While as of the time of this post the version I posted doesn't have any fights in it yet, Narbareck is still a psycho yet entertaining MC, and the Vatican "politics" are interesting to read about.

I might update this review once the updated version gets to the fights.

I'll give a +1 to Devil's Thrill. It's shaping up to be an interesting story. Plus, as it was a contest entry, it's mostly finished and I won't be waiting forever for an update.

Despite the game-breaking formatting of the original entry, the character interactions and the details of the various settings kept my attention long enough for the action to kick in. In particular, the interaction between Kirei and Narbareck is interesting.

Ehhh I'm not a big fan of the characterization of Narbareck at the beginning of the story. It's too... well teenie bopper. She seems more like a wish fulfillment fantasy during the Rome scenes than an actual character. But she does grow on you as the story goes on. Kotomine was pretty pre-gilgamesh Kotomine. I like that. It's a pretty fun jaunt using background material in the main nasuverse while at the same time exploring the Protagonist of Fate/Zero. Would suggest people I don't hate read it. +1.
