+0 on Waiting for One's Arrival
I really wanted to plus-one it for Dumbledore's POV. That part is great.
Then it became a Nasu-kid wankfest of the highest order.
Dumbledore is just so amazed by these interlopers who solve everyone's Voldemort problem as he gives them a stunning amount of free reign after they've shown themselves to be a dangerous quantity. The reveal was silly and obvious. That Dumbledore has lost track of Harry is a basic part of the premise, I understand, but it smacks of yet another reason why Nasuverse so awwwwsum, HPverse so stoopid.
I do like the premise. I really do. Rin putting the Second to work is something with a lot of promise, but it's a huge vehicle for everyone at Hogwarts being BLOWN AWAY by how tough/smart/strong these outsiders are.

But HP wizards are routinely capable of Spacial Transportation, so surely that's impressive, right?
IMO, the Potterverse and Nasuverse magic systems are just kinda incompatible. I mean, maybe you could make it work with enough effort, but they're just way too different, and would end up with one stomping another.

The greatest strength and weakness in Nasuverse magic/magecraft is how detailed it is throughout the continuity. It's certainly fun to gauge it between magic rules in other worlds or continuities but not to have bias on which is best. But considering that I'm doing a two-part crossover with Ni no Kuni and one of the first establish things in the game is other worlds, it's easy for me to write about the two rules of magic without having to make them conflict or contradict one another.
(And for those interested in Precursors of Purity, the second part is almost done)

Fate/Reach Out (Persona 4 crossover)
Precursors of Purity (Ni no Kuni crossover; two-shot)
The way you make it work is by ignoring every part of Harry Potter's wizarding world, and then reframing the most important characters.
James Potter becomes the reckless son of a fairly high ranking Clock Tower family who abandons his studies to go off and marry a complete n00b magus, Lilly Evans.
Then they have a kid and raise him like normal non-magic parents, for a couple of years. But all is not well. Let's say that James had a nifty little sorcery trait. Something with apretentiousname like "Assimilation" which lets him store other people's magical energy in his body and use it as his own. Since he's already saddled with the Thaumaturgical Crest (Parents are super dead.), he becomes despised by his peers since he nicked all of that Magecraft even though he isn't even developing it.
So then the story gets passed around, and the newly formed Potter family gets stalked by a particularly notorious Philosopher, Tom Marvolo Riddle. Riddle's research into splitting the soul made him a Sealing Designate, but he just wants immortality (Original, right?/s). On that Halloween night, Riddle attacks them directly, since his body is starting to break down. He intends to steal the body of baby Harry a la Souren Araya in order to keep himself alive using the Potter Sorcery Trait.
A la Souren Araya? I thought he kept himself alive through meditation and Buddha parts. This is the first I'm hearing of his being a body snatcher, unless that's part of the crossover.
I read a fic where Rin, Shirou, Rider, and Saber just got shunted to the HP world, theorized that it was constantly in the Age of Gods, and generally went about studying the fuck out of it because it was essentially Zelretch's homework assignment.
And, believe it or not, it was actually decent. Partly because every time Rin discovers wizards casually breaking the rules of magecraft she has a mini-aneurysm and spends the next chapter trying to figure out how it's done, and partly because the HP cast is generally competent but not Spacebattles competent. I suspect the paragraphs upon paragraphs of mechanics attracted me the same way the grinding in The Gamer attracts people.
I don't Spacebattles. Someone explain?

The most peculiar thing about Spacebattles, even beyond the competence thing, is the part of the community that gets upset when things go worse in fanfics than in canon.
One example that I saw recently was a comment on a Worm fic where a poster was upset that a character, who in canon was essential to beating the final boss, died because now he could "no longer trust the story to have a satisfying ending".

Actually now that I think about it that probably is linked to the competence thing. Things can't get worse for the protagonist if they're hyper competent!
