It's never actually called out, which I find a little peculiar when various mods that contributed to the storyline in far more minor ways were all referenced. But it very quickly went from the apparent original conceit in which the Child of Murder sees instinctively sees and understands the way to effect death, to a brief mention of lines on stones, to a wholesale importation of the Eyes, down to a table being the first example of use.
There were some really inventive things about the premise, and the Eyes were honestly far more of a warning sign than anything really going wrong - which is impressive, because giving the MEoDP to the main character in a 'fic is usually the point at which one should abandon ship as fast as possible. But it did fell off sharply from a highly promising beginning.

I just stop breathing entirely if I think too hard. Normally after finishing something really difficult I take a deep breath. Everyone thinks it's to unwind, but it's because I've been holding my breath for a while.
