I am not defending DW/TM, but the main story of FGO 1.0 was already planned before the game was launched. And the main story was supposed to end on 2016.

Now the game is so success, DW and Sony won't let it stop so there is an unplanned FGO 2.0. The way I see it, all these EoR (all written by writers other than Nasu) and reruns are to keep you veterans playing (and buying quarts) and "level-up" the newbies (and make them buy quarts) before the 2.0 is out.

I think it's naive to say that the reason for re-runs is because FGO 2.0 is 'sudden', which it definitely isn't. They definitely knew it was gonna be a thing from a long time ago, and should've been able to plan it better. We also know from the interviews that while the chapters was planned out ahead the script wasn't made till later for the chapters in 2016 where they decided to get serious with the story, so it wasn't just them putting out things that were done from the start.

There's really no reason why they couldn't plan things better for this year.

Or we could just accept the fact that in the end we must give up on re-runs, offer the free event Servants and shop CEs through alternative ways, and offer the story in another way, like for example using a mechanic like in CG in which you use keys to watch past events you missed.

I understand that there's newcomers that appreciate this, but for those that aren't, there's a limit to how many times you can do re-runs before you start getting bored of the game. I remember how desperate we were at having a new story chapter during Onigashima, since at that point we've only had one story chapter, Guda Guda 2 and the new CCC event in between the many re-runs. Heck, we're currently having another re-run at this moment. It really sounds kinda ridiculous when in just half of this year we've only had four new stories compared to everything the other years (and yeah, not counting the mini chapters with Arthur and why genderbend Musashi). I mean, just look at this:

Just check the different years, and see how ridiculous is the current situation. I really hope this situation improves in the future. Specially since they'll eventually run out of events that they haven't done a re-run.

Honestly, I think the real problem is the rush time they have. Remember that Nasu's already working on Season 2 and the other writers on EoR Parts 3 and 4. Having to have new stuff to do is fine and all but it does cost a lot of man hours to make a new and interesting event every time, yet alone QC and redoing assets that feels off for new Servants and stuff. And having 3 weeks to a month of nothing to do is also a sin. Didn't we had that during the introduction of the Dantes event where the entirety of the month or more was just nothing. That's a sin to make as a mobage because having nothing to do means having nothing to keep people interested in coming back. You'll see the dip in people playing and that can translate poorly to your investors and shareholders.

Also, more reruns means easier mat farming, what with new mats being introduced every new chapter. From 17 unique mats at the start of the game (excluding grail) up to 31 unique mats. And the list will keep on growing.
