Use image optimizer to convert those kilobytes into a smaller and easier to handle form. It also resizes pictures, but you have to work with it a tad bit.

Can't use avatars with too big of a filesize, even if they're hosted on photobucket. Any idea why this is?

Resave it in .jpg. Or (maybe this only works on my computer) save it in .jpg then save it in .png then save it in .jpg again.

I know I have a bit of a bias against jpeg compression, but if you're going to do it at least do it right -- use a program that allows you to choose the level of compression and gives you a filesize estimate for it.

Yeah, I pretty much know this. With what I said it ruins the quality of the image while lowering the amount of data in it by a lot.

Not even resizing something? Personally, I use Irfanview, and all it is, is a super light program that can crop things, resize, and save things with various amounts of compression.

It can also do batch stuff, but not very important. Batch renaming or batch recompression *shrug*

OK, a couple of things that would be useful.

First, is it possible to allow a poll to contain more than 10 options? That's not enough for a lot of the polls we have on here. Secondly, is there any way to add the ability to change your vote once you've made it? Because it makes deciding things a lot more difficult if you can't, and also encourages people to wait until the last possible moment before voting.

Preach on, brotha. I also use Irfanview for daily pic viewing. Editing, though, it's either rockin' the oldschool Paint Shop Pro 7.02, or using GIMP 2.6.

I dunno, something that actually allows us to vote on all the options in question, rather than limiting us so ridiculously? I mean, 10 choices isn't anything like enough for a "favourite character" poll or even for the polls Lantz is doing.

Unless someone intends to do a Shoryuma-sized poll and put in every single fucking named character (how do you even do that?). Actually, maybe 25-30? Those 'favorite pairing of 20XX' always had lots of choices. I dunno.

Yes, but that's beside the point. Just because there are, in certain circumstances, ways around such problems (in others, such as Lantz's poll, there aren't, really), that doesn't mean that the existing system is adequate. People just want a "which character is my favourite" poll, not a tournament....

There is no good reason why it should be limited to only 10 options in a poll, and I can't imagine that it's hard to change, so why are you so resistant to doing so? Just because that's the "default" setting, it doesn't mean that it's the best setting.

Well, not really. To do that, you'd have to split the poll into much smaller chunks (preferably pairs), which becomes very hard to organise.
