Oh wow. So I just read through the rest of Fate/Twilight on a whim (horrible, horrible name, by the way) and it's actually pretty fucking good. Now I'm actually serious about the +1.

So, Fate/Twilight. The premise is that just before the 4th Grail War, an OC magus decides he isn't having a serial killer accidentally summon a Servant. He gets rid of Mr. Cool and accidentally gets branded the master of Caster. However, his Servant, instead of being a Heroic Spirit, is a rather confused Unicorn by the name of Twilight Sparkle. What follows is a well written story that keeps everyone on the Fate side of things perfectly in character (not sure about MLP, but it seems okay) and doesn't compromise the feel of the original show. The differences start small and end up changing things in a meaningful way, and neither Twilight Sparkle or her OC Master are horribly written or overpowered (quite the opposite, really, as all he wants to do is perv on the War, and she just wants to get off this crazy planet full of horrible people killing each other). I definitely recommend it if you're the kind of insane person who manages to be a fan of both My Little Pony and Fate/Zero.

I gave it a try too... and couldn't stop reading until I got to the most recent cliffhanger. Just when it was getting good too... I'm not much of a pony enthusiast either, but from the few episodes I watched, they were cute and clever.

Anyway, Fate/Twilight is what happens when a teleporting mishap by Twilight Sparkle coincides with the summoning of the last Servant. As she's a living being (like Saber), Twilight is an anomaly in the war. Unlike most other examples of different servants coming in and being all badass, Twilight/Caster is too innocent to go around in a battle royale for a wish-granting artifact (hey, FiM is a kid's show, remember?). The OC master, Aaron Styx is a believable and neat character: he's not a overly powerful magus but one that was actually meant to be a voiceless bystander who got in over his head trying to stop Ryuunosuke sullying the "beauty" of the War. His main means of magecraft is scrying, he hides as much as Kayneth (which he later acknowledges) and is a thinker like Twilight (which he uses to his advantage early in the story). Up until when Caster canonically makes his first appearance, and part of the famous Banquet scene, the story is copy-and-paste dialogue in repeated scenes to anyone familiar with Fate/Zero. It all changes when Aaron offers his command spells for a chance for the first master to find a way to get the unicorn back home, and from there things go in a tail-spin:

Everyone now knows of Team Caster, Tokiomi is so drunk/pissed at her that he wants to kill her instead of help her, Gilgamesh shows a little more interest in his flustered master as well as Twilight herself, Waver decides to help her, and Kayneth forms an alliance with Zouken and by extension Kariya, just to say a few.

What I thought was REALLY deep and disturbing was how Kirei, after hearing her plight, admits how he wants to "save" Twilight Sparkle.

Naturally this ends on a cliffhanger, but the following chapter goes into detail that he sees her as pure and innocent, and gives Gilgamesh more fuel: he sees her more pure than the rest of humanity he's saved before, and knowing how he wants to "leave his mark" on her like a painting (after Kirei does anyway), it's foreshadowing that I believe he wants to corrupt her.

The last chapters (up to date anyway) have some cool fight scenes happening all at once, seeing the resourcefulness of the "heroes" fight at their obvious disadvantages. There's also something oddly funny about Twilight turning a piece of concrete from a signpost into an orange, and how Berserker still managed to make it into a weapon (acid juice)

So, Fate/Twilight get's my approval in this review. +1.

I am no fan of MLP in fact I actively dislike it enough to avoid crossover's.

At the same time I am perfectly OK seeing it on a recommend thread because I know people have different tastes and I dislike the idea of forcing my likes and dislikes down people's throat.

+1 for "A Study in Velvet" ( by Zalgo Jenkins )

A very enjoyable little one shot about Waver's life in the Clock Tower one year after the 4th HGW.
It's short, but very well written, with engaging dialogue and monologue ( Waver's snark is delicious ), and the murder mystery is interesting enough ( even though I think that both the mystery and the fic as a whole would have profited from a bit longer running time ).

It's an interesting piece, with great character dynamics between Waver as a freshly-made trainee of the El-Meloi lineage, and his young tutor.
It is also very faithful to the setting, with a good insight into the workings and the daily life of the Clock Tower, featuring both the young upstarts and snobby old elitist pricks from old Magi aristocratic families.

Definitely worth your time.
