The question I always ask in regards to alternative takes is...
i) Is it interesting?
ii) Does it build off of canon in a way that works and serves the needs of the story?
And you know what? I think it does in this case.

Drama baby...and it reinforces the similarities with Shirou further.
Also gives a neat excuse for Gwen's un-virgining and why she and Artoria grew apart.
Fixed.
If we shut down plot points just because they've been done before, we'll end up with garbage that's recommended just because it tries to be different and fails. There's plenty of room for rape in stories if it's done right, and to my knowledge this is the first and only FSN fic to try using it in such a way, which is pretty bold.
Not that I really have a dog in this fight, but it seems to me like the primary flaw is less about rape and it's overuse (or lack thereof) but in that the fic attempts to portray parts of saber's charachter to the rape that were clearly evident years before it occurred.
This doesn't fill me with a great feeling of confidence in the author's capability to work well with Artoria's character, rape or otherwise. This also would explain Arturia's extreme focus on control and denial of her own feelings – it's a coping mechanism for the trauma when she could not fight her opponent off. It's a denial of every taunt Morgan threw at her during the rape. It's the choice to isolate herself so that no one can notice the shame and soiling she feels is visible.

Democracy on Beast's Lair
I'm not of the mind that rape as a dramatic device is overused, but when it comes to fanfiction, I'm sorry to say, you'll be lucky to find .000000001% of fics that feature it handled well. It's not something even published authors are necessarily good at, so the odds that some teenage twit who hasn't even had sex will handle it well is gonna be astronomical.
This is coming from someone who, as a teenage twit who hadn't even had sex, tried to write stuff on it. Firsthand experience with being terrible, yo.

+1 Sherbette's Sherbet by IRUN
BL's first Red Dragon fic. A humor one-shot, in which a maid embarks on a quest to make her master sherbet. Not much else to say about it, other than it's cute and funny.
Linger: Complete. August, 1995. I met him. A branch off Part 3. Mikiya keeps his promise to meet Azaka, and meets again with that mysterious girl he once found in the rain.
Shinkai: Set in the Edo period. DHO-centric. As mysterious figures gather in the city, a young woman unearths the dark secrets of the Asakami family.
The Dollkeeper: A Fate side-story. The memoirs of the last tuner of the Einzberns. A record of the end of a family.
Overcount 2030: Extra x Notes. A girl with no memories is found by a nameless soldier, and wakes up to a world of war.
That's not a good enough reason.
I know you're there resident Contractual Obligations champion, but you must see that changing things to change them and force them down your broken narrative isn't going to win many points.
Sure, write about Arturia and Archer. Don't do it by misrepresenting Alaya and Arturia. If you can't get Arturia's character right, why are you even writing about Arturia, you know?

Yeah, this is basically my thing.
Even aside fron 'rape as drama' being massively overused in fanfiction, and even aside from rape being a massively sensitive subject that I wouldn't trust 90% of published authors to treat appropriately, (let alone fanfic authors) it shows a fundamental failure to understand Saber's character, on par with the "I'm Distorted"-Robotic-Killer Fanon!Shirou.
