    Weird News

this here thread is for all the strange things that get reported on the Internet. We're talking about the stuff that makes even jaded web users like Beast's Lair raise an eyebrow. That said, let's begin with this little winner.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ry%2BMcdermott

A Ukrainian teen girl is turning herself into an anime figure. For reals. It's as horrifying as it sounds. Behold!

Can't people just learn to accentuate their natural beauty rather than just forcing themselves to look completely different?

As a side-note, can we use source stories from somewhere other than the Daily Mail site, please? I dunno about all the other UK users, but it's well known to cause some of us to hack up blood when we see it.

Slightly better. Our right-wingers are marginally less insane than the US ones. But, yeah, basically that.

    God, that's horrible....

Although, really, I think the girl shouldn't be charged as an adult. She was clearly scared of what would happen if she was found to be pregnant, and couldn't find anywhere to get an abortion.

Really? I'd say that the Mail is quite probably worse.

In particular, the Mail is exceptionally good at making stuff up, and at overly-sensationalist headlines (whenever I read the mail, I like to find all the ways that the headline is contradicted by the article it's on top of...). It's one thing to have a strong bias, but the Mail just plain lies.
