my family were sayyid until my grandmas generation (apparently its only passed down patrilineal so tough luck) so i got quite a few if i bother to look into it hard enough, obvious candidates being ali ibn abi talib and muhammad himself

though people also bought into that title or just made it up so who knows really

So many people here have cool ancestry, must be nice being born on the old world + have your family actually care enough to record this stuff.

The only thing I know about my ancestry is that my great-great-great-grandmother was a poor indigenous child (native Brazilian? I don't know if you guys have a name for them) who was adopted by my family and later on ended up marrying her adoptive cousin (or brother?) whose name is also not recorded. Considering the times in which this happened there's a high chance the "adoption" was just them taking her in to work at their house and the "marriage" wasn't completely consensual, but I like to believe the truth is happier than that. It's sad that I don't even know which tribe she was from though, and I don't have any indigenous physical traces anyway so I know nothing about the "most influential" part of the family.

I should do one of those blood tests that tell you your ethnic ancestry someday...

Oh now I'm curious, who's the writer?

Still counts though. I mean, even if I were just descended from some unknown Mongolian I'd throw that in, because it was very likely to have been one of his or his successors' troops.

Well, actually, not knowing anything about how Medieval Mongolian army logistics or imperialism worked, I suppose that may not be true.

Regardless, being descended from Genghis Khan may not statistically be anything special, but by the same statistics, he's likely to be any given descendant's most famous ancestor. And I'd be stunned if TM doesn't give us a Servant Temujin sooner or later.

It's probably because the people who don't have interesting ancestry, don't know, or don't care enough to post are all silent and you only have the people can share what they know talking.

So to share uncool ancestry, my great uncle died as a kamikaze pilot, but that's definitely too modern to be a HS in a TM sense (despite being one of the spirits enshrined as Eirei in Yasukuni), and probably can't be a servant.
I also know if you track 2 generations before that, you reach some Aizu samurai household, yet again losers of a hopeless war.
I'm just guessing most of my ancestors were peacefully enjoying their lives as commonplace samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants before the Meiji Restoration, nothing servant worthy afaik.

Meh, that's not too early, I think WWII heroes shouldnstill qualify. And hell, I'm thinking of making a simple sheet for my grandfather on this page, just to encourage others to do the same. And he's not even actually dead!

If I go far back enough and maybe fudge it a little, maybe some of the Iceni tribe figures.

My first surname is the same as El Cid's, if that counts.

Seriously now, the only "heroic" feat from my ancestors that I can recall is that my great-great-grandmother was a baker that gave bread and food to her neighbors during the Spanish Civil War no matter if they were Republicans or nationalists. Luckily, she was a friend of the nationalist officer that controlled the zone, so she wasn't executed

After research. I'm possibly a descendant of the Lords of Truagh.

It's said that all Chinese descended from the Yellow Emperor....

Well, since my family name is Liu I guess...

Or Liu Bei or those Han Emperors.

Not really. Most noteworthy family anecdote is, some ancestor of mine literally crushed the spine of two hooligans from a neighboring village with a wooden beam in the early-to-mid-1800s.

That same guy was said to be an illegitimate son of a noble from the House of Alba, which would explain the fact that he got away scot free.
    don't quote me on this

I'm sure I'm descended from loads of famous people by this point. Doesn't Genghis Khan have literally millions of descendants while most of Europe is distantly related to each other after a thousand years of being in the same genetic pool?

But I guess that's cheating. I could probably ask my grandfather since he traced his lineage back something like 800 years.

Yeah but us calling old man Genghis is kind of cheating in the context of this thread
