Tomb of the Sun God is awesome OC done right. The magi are wonderfully overbearing, the stakes are suitably high and the Scribe protagonist is an interesting twist on the mythos. I almost wish Bloble would strip away the Nasuverse references and take original fiction for a spin. It's really a great treat. This is a fantastic way to play in Nasu's sandbox without beating the Xth Grail War horse. I wish more authors would take notes.
Hound/Blacksmith spends more time than I would like bogged down in Archer pining for Rin (and Lancer wooing Ayako, though I gave it a bit more of a pass because it's new territory), but that's par for the course with Elf. It's not terrible. It just doesn't deliver on the buddy cop premise that was promised quite as soon as I would have liked. (If I'm going to split hairs, I'm foggy on how and why Gilgamesh and Lancer came back. The explanation that Ilya brought back both of her brothers works for Archer, but I guess we're supposed to take it that Sakura regurgitated Lancer and Gilgamesh as an act of penance? Not really a big deal, just in the back of my mind)
But once it gets moving, it gets great. The vampire triplets are great OC additions to the cast, the banter between the Servants is wonderfully funny and I like Elf's callbacks to things like Rider assaulting Ayako, making it a major part of the story. Then again, I like it when any author remembers the crumbs and works them back into a story. Things like that tend to get forgotten or brushed under the rug, so it's refreshing to see Elf taking that to its logical conclusion and examining how Not Okay that was. I like Rider, too, but people tend to overemphasize how loyal she is to Sakura, as if that trait overwrites all of the shady and outright sadistic things she does. This is the same woman who talks about how Shirou's tortured screams are going to make her orgasm. Woman's fucked up and needs a good talking to.

Personally, I wrote Nerve Damage off before the summoning even happened, what with 'Shirou has thousands of circuits' 'Brand new form of SUPASPESHUL magic taught by an OC' and 'Shirou uses said magic to fight off Lancer'.
