I still want to know what the thought process was behind choosing to make what is essentially a joke character playable over the SINGLE EXTRA SERVANT LEFT NOT IN THE GAME, WHO ALSO HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME CLASS AS AFOREMENTIONED JOKE CHARACTER ANYWAY.

Nah, Gilles was always a joke character. That doesn't neccesarily mean he's funny- just that he's not meant to be taken seriously.
And I completely forgot about Lancer Vlad also not being in the game. Nursery would still fit better.

Being treated as a meme in the fandom doesn't mean you are considered a joke character officially. All in all, every character is a joke character to some extent in type-moon parodies. Just look at Learning with manga and Carnival Phantasm.

Yes but it also looks like he's also going in a murder spree again around the capital now as well, so that's serious. Even if his over the top personality is a joke that doesn't mean he's not a serious character. I mean Tamamo's normal interactions is way more of a joke but she can be seriously scary or at least when the Master isn't around.

I consider both of them joke characters. Just because you are a joke character in the eyes of some fans doesn't stop you from acting badass and serious. Point is, no one can dictate what others define a character.

"Nursery Rhyme appearing as Alice again" already had to be justified as an exception in FGO, doing it in Extra again would just be overkill.
But unlike in GO, her having remained as an imprint in the system and looking for digitals remnants of "Alice" somewhere wouldn't be nearly as weird.
