I think Elf might be biased here.
My attempts at being a (fanfic) writer:
Eclipse - a Saber Alter oneshot
Requiem for a Race - Altrouge and Ortenrosse hunt the TAs ( 1/3 chapters, discontinued )
Memories of a King - a 'Saber Origins' story ( 8/? chapters, discontiuned )
A Small Warmth - a post UBW-Good oneshot, Saber/Rin
Devil's Thrill - Narbareck hunts down a DAA Blackmore ( 10/10 chapters, finished )
Boundary of Loneliness - Ryougi Shiki/Alphard Al-Shua oneshot. Lemon-flavoured
It was still good, and had some fantastic smut too.
The reason I'm not recing it is because it's only on livejournal. Well, there's a "clean" version on FFnet, but part of the charm was the lemon.

A Tale of Two Shikis by Mereo Flere
+1 I like this one.
I'll throw a +1 on Battle Continuation, too.
I think Lancer and Shirou had a bit too easy of a time turning the tables, but that's the nature of underdog stories. It was also a bit too fight-heavy when there was a lot of potential for Shirou-Lancer banter or studying the ramifications of attack dog Saber and what the author did with Rin. Hell, Archer wasn't so much a character as he was an obstacle.
But the story succeeded in what it set out to do. It was a story of two beaten down guys deciding not to be beaten down and rising to the challenge of being the only forces left that could stand even a ghost of a chance against a very powerful Team Caster. Their never-say-die attitude was palpable. I can see why the story is called "Battle Continuation." They were both every bit as stubborn and hard to kill as they should be, right down to the part where they fight on well past their numerous wounds.
It's not so much a story as it is a love letter to the Fifth War's punching bags, and I can really appreciate that.
*nods*
Is it completely faithful to power levels and the like? No, definitely not. Shirou and Lancer kick way too much ass and push the impossible regularly. But the title is extremely apt.
I agree that it could have been longer, but I think the brevity works to its benefit. It keeps it from overstaying its welcome and it stays very tightly focused on Lancer and Shirou's theme. I especially love the final description of Lancer. Lots of fighting? Yeah, but it's the fighting that really shows, instead of tells, Shirou and Lancer's commitment. Banter woulda been nice, I suppose, but I don't think this was the place. If nothing else, F-1 nailed 'actions speak louder than words' with these two. It's a good contrast to canon where nobody can ever do anything without a multi-page monologue. Here, the two just shut up and put their money where their mouth is.
And not once was 'people should die when they're killed' was invoked. The meme was nowhere to be found in the awesomeness.
It's not a perfect story, but it's a very memorable one.

I didn't write a full rating/author/et cetera write up, but I thought I attached a decent enough summary, given that there was none before. Here, I'll post again:
AU UBW in which Caster has all but won but Shirou and Lancer aren't ready to give up. Short and poignant.
Thoughts?
Hmm....used 'but' too often. Okay, maybe some tweaking.

I don't see any reason why it being on LJ should be any reason not to rec it other than not wanting to give the cesspool that the administration of LJ has become any more hits.
(Yes, I used to be an LJ user.)
Mini Nephthys on Archive of Our Own - where my actual good fics live.
It was called "Across The Universe" and it was being written for a porn theme meme. Thing was long though, but very well done.
The problem with linking it from LJ would be finding each link to each individual segment. Plus there was one point that Yuurei didn't want linked until she revised some of the earlier parts. Because her porn skills got better.

It's very faithful to the mindset of those two once they decide what they are going to do. Not what they want to do, not what they will do, but what they are doing. I don't even think the powerlevels are that exagerated. If anything, the only thing that is a bit stretched is their coordination.
But I don't want to disrespect this story with powerlevels or nitpicking. "Battle Continuation" is a fast, and cruel, story. What happens is not nice, as any last stand should be, and the characters situation is hopeless enough that they had to pull all the stops and try something crazy. And the best of all, is that the story works. You can feel the adrenaline of Shirou and Lancer. Archer may had been only an obstacle, as Imperial said, but there are already many stories where the author explores the deep of the character. The same with Rin and Saber, and what can I say about Shirou. FSN is his story, after all. Here? Here we are the witnesses of two beaten characters that refuse to give up, and everything is just an obstacle to them.

summary:Ilya likes to play video games, and in the time she has remaining, Shirou is more than willing to play the new VR game with her. But when they are trapped inside the game, [Sword Art Online], they determine something even more distressing: Kayaba Akihiko is definitely a Magus.
Or: SAO is a big experiment and they're caught in it.
+1 to Fate Revelation Online.
It... pleasantly surprised me, honestly. It's not like it's anything mind-blowing, but the writing is good, there is some attention to detail that I can appreciate, and I think the characters are written quite well so far. To the point that it's at, the story is managing to meld the elements of FSN and SAO in an interesting way that doesn't make your bullshit meter ring, and it's advancing at what I would consider a good pace and exploring the perspectives of multiple characters.
There is some canon.... not twisting, but accommodation of detail to expand the role and history of certain characters in the Nasuverse side of the equation, like Kayaba Akihiko. And despite some questionable claims and facts in story that kinda devalue some parts of canon, the story has managed to work and not feel it's jumping the shark just yet, thankfully. I think it's because those particular things were mentioned without overdramatic embellishment, handwaving, or sounding like wank. There wasn't much of a reaction to it, but it did feel like it had the proper weight for the scene given the audacity of the information.
And I think the author might have confused Caliburn with Excalibur in the most recent chapters. He said Caliburn, but I think he meant to say Excalibur. Or maybe I wasn't paying attention. Regardless, it managed to not fall into the common pit trap of "Shirou can project Excalibur", and actually all but clearly stated the reverse in narration.
Also, it has omake chapters that can basically be described as "Kotomine Church Dojo" for the 'antagonists'.

Daniel Gudman has been always a good read, at least for me. At first I was wary of the crossover, because I hadn't read who was the author, but after the +1, I tried myself. And my final decision is... another +1.
The story is funny, and certainly treats the characters right. It's not the best writting I had the pleasure to read (in my opinion, sometimes he dedicates too much time to explain exactly what the character is doing, and why, when it would be more natural for him to just write something like "Shirou answered with a <<Yeah, yeah>>" instead of explaining why he is doing that, and how. But that's nitpicking about the style, and to be fair, it isn't that bad.
The premise is interesting, and while not exactly a novelty (characters of the crossovered series end trapped in Aincrad), it has been well implemented. The fact that Kayaiba iss a magus isn't new, either, but it felt pretty natural. All in all, it includes Shirou being a badass, but without surpasing his post-Fate limits (if anything, he is below his normal limits at the moment), but without forgetting the other characters (Kirito seems to be almost as badass, and only because he didn't have yet the chance to show off, and Asuna and Ilya are love), or the characters outside the game (well, it was only a chapter, but they are still there, doing things to try and help).
My doubt is about who is going to receive the Dual Blades unique skill, knowing the requeriments for said skill, and the fact that both Kirito and Shirou seems to have the same value in said requeriments at the moment. On the other hand, and taking into account that now there is magecraft... it is very posible that Shirou would have his classic "unique skill" while Kirito has his Dual Blades.
Spoiler:
I'm holding back the decision of recommending it or not.
It's a good read, but I'm worried about how Kayaba's character will be handled. (Making him a magus changes basically everything about him.)
This probably means that I won't know if I rec it or not until the last chapter.
Ragnarok, come day of wrath
That fallen souls might bear our plea.
To hasten the Divine's return.
O piteous Wanderer.
Even though I've been following it on TFF for months, I'm still going to hold back the reccing decision until they pass the 25th floor at the bare minimum. I have a sneaking suspicion that "Wouldn't it be cool to give Ability X to Character Y?" might rear its ugly head in the later stages of this story.
I am of the personal belief that the Tsukihime Remake is two years from release. It will remain as such until a release date is announced, at which time its actual release date is 6 months after that date.Originally Posted by Nasu
