how can game dev work on anything if writers don't came up with plot ideas.
What is it like working at Lasengle?
All of your suggestions are definitely doable and interesting (specifically, "experiencing the TM version of certain events in history" is something I always want to see more of). It's not hard to be creative with events either cuz other games I've seen doing it for ages. Just from the games I play, Honkai has events focusing on different characters of different factions and even what-if reality shenanigans and full gags, or even 4th wall breaking where the characters interacts and create a bunch of memes. SMT Dx2 has mini events with short and straightforward event stories focusing on each new demons' character and powers and somehow still link into the big main story picture. FEH I stopped playing but they also have short mini events focusing on different characters and not involving the main casts (tho the constant appearance of Fjorm in Forging Bond events were kinda out of control lol). Taimanin RPG has event solely dedicate to various different characters and factions moving in the shadows behind the main plot as well as gag events. So yeah, all are valid things that they can go with, it's just that they don't want to.

You don't always need big lengthy event plots to make interesting events. Grail Front doesn't need it. Tower events can also be done without a plot. Sometimes an event where you just go in and play without needing to wait 7 days for the main story to finish and read through all that is more welcome.
Lesangle needs dedicated writers for extra contents.
Then they are just suck.
We all know that FGO's insane success is riding on its story, and apparently Lasagna knows it too.My initial theory about the game's roadmap a couple years ago was that Part 2 would end at around December 2023,then there would be a megafiesta on 2024's Fate anniversary, then the game would either:
1)enter a "semi-maintenance mode, with Nasu allowing true collabs with other franchises(he has stated he will allow collabs once the chaldea story arc is complete) and slowly explore the rest of the plotlines i assumed would be unresolved (rest of the Sakura 5/Tamamo 9,Outer Gods plotline, further padding) and eventually EoS
2)enter a near-full maintenance mode "hibernation" period where FGO 2 is being developed, which would use an engine similar to newer high budget gacha games(like 7DS Grand Cross, taking and utilizing assets from Arcade).
Apparently every loose plotline thread will be resolved in Ordeal Call arc.Which leaves the game rather bereft of content once Part 2 ends in either late 2024 or mid 2025,depending on how much empty space will be left within the chapters/how many chapters will be after Ordeal Call.Which aligns with what Kanou had once said, that FGO was intended to last for around 10 years.
A big issue imo is the precarious state of the Global server.Once EoS/maintenance mode will be(eventually)announced,Global will immediately die.
I know this may be alarming but the issues tied with the writing is actually not that closely entwined with making the story more bearable to play

Like it was not the writing that made the back button unavailable until 3 years into the game's lifespan

Some grail fronts have stories, like half don't
BTW, I know of worse games with scrum pipelines and/or static event schedule structure that has bugs and still gets bugs every update (or occasional bad typo and misleading banner information thanks to poor translation). AFAIK, FGO's bugs that I've usually noticed are either minor (IE: EMIYA's UBW background sticking around) to FPS problems (map-specific fields calling too many particles, etc) to server stability problems. I don't think I had a really buggy experience playing FGO like I have other games. Or at least, having noticeable issues pertaining the use of skills, NP or even face cards beyond the intended triggers and effects. Maybe you guys have different experiences and see bugs that I don't.
Like, launch NIKKE and even up to nearly 2 months' down the line, it had bugs that never existed in the Beta. Then bugs got fixed in exchange for other new bugs. And more new bugs after another bugfix.
Or Tales of Crestoria where the game launched with random crashes and freezes that never got addressed early on.
Actually, I think I had problems with Slime as well? I only stayed a month so I never really know if they fixed the issues that plagued it on launch like the random freezes when doing certain actions too fast.
not a bug but I'm pretty sure Golden UFO fried most devices.
Bugs on NIKKE werent bugs, they were features.Employees of SHIFTUP would detail that they found bugs to the Tencent management and that they would fix them, and Tencent told them not to,because bugs would generate anger and disappointment amongst the playerbase, and this is engagement and therefore wanted.
I am not shitting you, look it up if you dont believe me.
There are also CN and KR. KR idk how far behind JP but in CN they are releasing Bazette for Valentine so they are pretty much only a year behind.
Despite FGO being unable to compete with many other gacha in CN like the games from Tencent, NetEase and Mihoyo, last time I check it is consistently in the top 30-40 of the appstore over there. Still can't compete with other games due to them being available on multiple platforms instead of just mobile, but that rank is quite decent, so they make a lot of money. I am pulling numbers out of my ass but my guess is FGO worldwide revenue would be like 55% Japan, 35% CN and the remaining 10% from Global and KR. So even if Global and KR die, they won't lose too much as long as CN is there. Although since it is published by a different company in CN, idk how much revenue they share with Aniplex, Sony, Lasagna and TM. So I think at the very least they can try and push out the final contents for CN. Global is 2 years behind by design so unless they are determined to finish things off for Global, it will die yeah.

For me it's not really bugs but the poor optimization of the app that can cause memory leaks and crash often. FGO doesn't change their combat system in any meaningful ways since forever and only add bits and bits of mechanics that don't break the existing system, which means they played very safe and that limited the possibility of crazy bugs happening. Tho I heard rumors about some tough ones that caused dev team a lot of problems and ate into LB7 dev time. If there is anything I can praise the dev team for it's this, they do really try as best as they can to release new patches with relative low to no bugs, just the optimization is trash and that in of itself was part of the early FGO foundation. Bringing back old events can potentially cause bugs as well iirc, which was why they decided to not do reruns more often due to the amount of time needed to re-implement them. The game simply doesn't have a flexible system built for adding and removing stuffs in modules like other gacha games. If that existed, we would have gotten reruns regularly and easily.
That is true. Tho players in CN tend to keep putting money into games running on limbo simply because they have. There are a lot of MMOs with 15+ years of service with close to zero updates anymore and people still play them and restart new accounts, characters. But for a game like FGO where the whole point is collecting new chars and read new stories, without any perma endgame contents to do like MMOs, it won't survive long afterwards.
I love it, my favorite. The writers for that game are self-admitted TYPE-MOON fans actually. They reference Artoria explicitly in Millennium Chapter 2 with an "XX of Promised Victory" and the writing for Final Chapter is full of Nasu-isms. The thing that determines a student's magical power is even called Mystic (IIRC it is the same kanji as what we call "Mystery")
I'd reply to manafusion's comment but I don't want to turn this into the Blue Archive thread. Maybe there's a general gacha thread somewhere or something.

A problem that wouldn't be as bad as it is if they weren't so intent on keeping absolute parity with JP, therefore ensuring we are two years behind forever. Unless they rush out all the story updates once JP EoS gets announced, we'll be a corpse with two years left to live if that.
The smart choice would be to soft reboot into FGO 2 but using the same app and allow people to carry over their stuff as a non-canon thing. I know people want something new (like Arcade but good, for example), but unless there's a way to transfer the value from FGO to FGO2, that'd feel pretty sucky. Genshin's story, for example, will span a total of... 7? 8? years (I forgot), but Mihoyo has already said there will be a new story arc afterwards. So they're definitely going well past 10 years and maintaining the value of someone's wishes.
Genshin's storyline spans eight nations with one per year. We started with Mondstadt and Liyue, meaning that when the game launched, the storyline was slated to last 6-7 years. They're currently in Sumeru, with Fontaine meant to launch this year. So there's still 3-4 years left for that story arc to end. That's just enough time for us to get to Antarctica Part 1 with 2 more parts and Fuyuki on the horizon!

One thing you could do is launch the new game but keep the old one running for a little while. People will play the new game and eventually start building their rosters and getting attached to it. Then you can just EoS the old game. I've seen some other companies try this, and miHoYo themselves have teased a different sequel game (Star Rail is just a spin-off) to HI3 for years.
Agreed, when i mean "hibernate while developing FGO 2" i mean actually allowing people's rolled units to transfer over to the new game engine, even if completely reseted to "freshly rolled"values for the sake of gameplay.Even a titan franchise like the Nasuverse would not retain player goodwill if they launched a new title on the same franchise with reseted everything. The only franchises allowed this are super Bandai-Namco megatitans that spill over to the normie sphere like Dragonball,One Piece or Sword Art Online.
