Ignoring that Zulfiqar and probably even the sword that guards Eden is at least as famous, the fact that it is the special snowflake super-sword forged by the planet as some sort of anti-threat laser instead of a really good sword Arthur got from a hand in a lake is ridiculous.

Lu Bu mastered five kinds of weapons, so someone designing a weapon that is literally all those weapons in one is a more acceptable break from myth than the SPESHUL PLANET-FORGED uber laser for the creator's pet based on exactly fuck all in legend.
For Muslim world Zulfiqar is more famous than any sword, but still, even if more people probably know the name of Excalibur than they know Zulfiquar, the former is certainly overwanked by Nasu. Though he is free to do so even if it's silly for some.
And 1/4th of the world's population is Muslim so do the math.
Planet needs a way to protect itself, I have no issue with this.
There are plenty of issues I have with Saber. This is nothing that we didn't already know though, so this is not one of them.
I don't see how Excalibur being a weapon to protect the planet is such a big deal.

Excalibur is really strong, just deal man. From citywide powerslash to localized lightsaber, but we already know the power can be adjusted since at its base it's just Gourry's Sword of Light mechanically.

The name Gram comes from the Norse versions of the myth and while Balmung is used in the Nibelungenlied, and I'm not aware of any version of the story where the sword is renamed upon reforging (which doesn't even happen in the Nibelungenlied, just the Norse versions and Wagner).
Christemo was telling a bizzaro fanfic version that not only mixed names from two distinct versions of the myth, but also added details that weren't in either.
