oh hey, would you look at that. it literally spells out that the damage of Lugh's spear was close to that of thrown gae bulg. there goes a personal theory that maybe brionac might have just been a huge explosion and therefor numerically stronger. ah well.

Why don't we ever see Lancer throw Gae Bolg with his foot?

Shit would have been so cash.

There is no "always pierce the heart" concept in Striking Death Flight.

CM3 elucidated the "cannot be dodged" part as "the power and the area of effect is so huge, erecting defence or dodging is futile".

You see Verg's post, food? I think game text takes precedence over CM3. The power and area of effect thing is mentioned, but it also talks about how it can't be avoided and will attack even if it misses. And the status screen for the thrown version says it strikes an opponent no matter how many times it's dodged.

That's because you have the pre-conception of "the spear seeks you out". CM3's explanation is "it splits into countless spears, so no matter how you dodge, it will hit you".

It's like you can hit the bull's eye with a well-placed shot, or you can hit the target with a ton of arrows until one hits the bull's eye.

    As I thought. Okay.

CM3 retconned it so that hundreds of spears/barbs get launched from the spear lol.

Yup. It was 30 barbs originally, but that number increased after Lancer ascended to Heroic Spirit (exact number unknown, "many many" I guess lol).

I don't know, Archer is standing too close and snuffed Striking Death Flight before it split into barbs?

From what they were saying it seemed like the hundreds of spears also could follow the enemy (or enemies) in midair and I went going 'holy shit this is crazy!'. Which is why I started getting confused.

No, I am certain they are not seeker drones my friend.

The essence of Striking Death Flight is "carpet bombing".

(You can quote "carpet bombing" when discussing Striking Death Flight, as it is the word used in the book, I did not make this analogy).

Yeah, I went back to what I originally thought after your post. But yeah, hundreds of death seeker drones that follow hundreds of enemies all at once is too awesome not to like (and is really deserving of the Anti-Army status). But in retrospect that would probably be more in A Rank territory.

Meh, I don't mind retcons in of themselves but this one sure makes the whole "Lance of sure hit, Shield of no loss" scene completely nonsensical. If all it took was intercepting the spear before it spikes out, then it's not nearly as powerful as I had ascribed to it.

It does make that scene not nearly as epic. I suppose if that translation is accurate though you could say it solves the "can you out muscle a concept" question, since there wouldn't be any concept of always finding the target other then overwhelming force, meaning lancer basically brute forced the auis's concept of stopping projectiles. At least until that gets changed to it's the ultimate defense against projectiles because it's really large and there for makes it hard to throw over, or something.

And then in the end, it turns out that's all a concept is. Something mundane dressed up to seem fancy on a narrative level. And then Fate was Umineko.

Rho Aias is a Bound Field Noble Phantasm, so who knows, the actual ret-con'd CG might be Rho Aias forming a dome over Archer's head with little darts bouncing off of it.

I have a feeling I'm going to regret asking this question, but what the hell.

Does Fragarach's ability explicitly say that it rewinds time to before the attack started or before the attack strikes? Most of our discussions indicate it is the former but that will cause a time paradox resulting in Fragarach never being activated and striking for E-rank damage.

However, if it is the latter, then Fragarach still travels through time in that it hits the moment it is activated (a missile traveling time of zero means teleportation, and hence time travel by extension), and still allows Gae Bolg to work (because if you kill him before the thrust completes he can still hit you anyway), maintaining the A-Rank strike, and explains why the attack is stopped.

It re-writes the destiny so that Fraggle Rock fired first, by erasing the fact that the opponent's trump card launched.

However, for Gae Bolg, the launch is irrelevant, because as soon as it is invoked, it hit. The launch and the pathing are all for show.

In the end, Fraggle Rock worked, and Gae Bolg worked as well. Everyone wins (loses)?
