I've heard it claimed around the interwebs that Caladbolg might be a prototype of Excalibur because of the etymological origin of the latter's name, but I think it's bullshit based on what we know about Excalibur. Am I right to call bullshit?

Caladbolg is the demonic sword wielded by the Irish hero Fergus mac Róich in Celtic mythology. The version that Archer projects has been altered to improve its function as an arrow.

In the legends, Fergus mac Róich was the former king of Ulster and foster-father of the hero Cú Chulainn. However, he was tricked out of his kingship, and later allied with Connacht, an enemy of Ulster. During the decisive battle between Connacht and Ulster, Fergus was able to corner the enemy king who had betrayed him, but was prevented from killing him. It is said that he redirected his rage at this turn of events upon three hills, using Caladbolg to blast their tops clean off.

Cú Chulainn is affected by a geass that makes it his duty to be defeated once by the sword so long as the wielder is Ulster-born. For that reason, it could be said to be his natural enemy.

Also, there is a theory that the Caladbolg from Celtic mythology is the same sword as the Caledfwlch from Welsh mythology, making it a prototype of Excalibur.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Real talk, it's one of those long standing theories that ultimately can't be proven either way. Some Arthurian scholars think they are connected whilst others don't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In this case it’s somewhat irrelevant because caliburn and Excalibur are two seperate swords.

I was asking whether it was true in the Nasuverse, not in real life. I know in real life that it's inconclusive, but I want to know whether Nasu himself decided to make that theory real or not in the TM-verse because some people use the actual theory and claim it is true to TM as well.

SMT 4 Final taught me that Excalibur is actually Ame no Habakiri - Susanoo's divine sword which was used to kill the Yamata no Orochi which means it can also damage Ananta.

If that isn't Japanese provincialism, I don't know what is.

Yes, until Nasu decide that he needs another idea inspired by SMT - one of his favorite series - in his universe. We had Persona and Devil Survivor, next is gonna be an actual SMT game.

Well all the wiki has on the matter is literally copied from the quote You gave and other then that’s all we really have for it.

though for something we do know for sure is that Caladbolg is explicitly the prototype for Galatine. There is no maybes on that front
