TMWiki filed them under 概念武装 (logic cancer in EX?)

It's not a huge difference and I'm just going to use 'craft essence', but has 概念礼装 ever come up before GO?

『月姫』における、教会のアンデッド処置方法。
死徒……人間から吸血種になったモノを塵に還すには、人間だったころに馴染みが深かった宗教のシンボルがキ ーになる。

解りやすく言うのなら十字架が代表的な物。
が、十字架が効く、というのは元がキリスト教の信徒だった吸血鬼のみ。人間だった頃に国教がカトリックでは なかった吸血鬼には十字架は通じにくくなる。
逆に吸血鬼がキリスト教の信徒であったのならなら、襲われた人間がキリスト教の信徒でないとしても十字架は それなりの効力を持つ。
無論、どちらも信徒であるのならその効果は絶大だ。

I think craft essence is a more general category than conceptual weapon.
Like a conceptual weapon is meant to destroy something with a concept.
Whereas a craft essence is basically anything with a concept.

Even though they're believed to exist and are necessary for magic, only one magus has ever understood the soul.

Souls are only "things to be investigated", or "things to be moved into containers".
It's incomprehensible not merely to suck them out but also to collect them in a single place.
It's because a magus has no use for them even if one were to collect this unconvertible energy.

homunculi definitely have souls. I kind of remember somewhere say they're artificial but then again homunculi themselves are completely artificial.

As for what can obtain a soul,

The human he was recreated from is in cold sleep on Earth, neither alive nor dead.
This is why the NPC managed to gain an ego and autonomy.
(This has to do with where souls reside in TYPE-MOON, but that isn't explained in this story.)
