If we assume that it has something to do with Sefar attacking the planet Mars, it's a point towards the theory that the basis of worship for what later became Divine Spirits were literal aliens.

I've only finished the main story. I haven't finished all of the side quests or read the mats so that could have the info. I sure don't know.

It may or may not have something to do ORT, but that's just speculation. We don't actually know much about other than those infected by it becomes gods and that there different that they interact with the world through various vessels.

Maybe I'm thinking of the interaction between Velber and an earlier AoG. Can't remember where the various AoG timelines were defined.

Edit: Wasn't it during the AoG in which Gil's ancestors surrendered to avoid being destroyed by Titan Altera?

Maybe related to this? Though the whole Altera and alien god thing is mentioned earlier in the thread by around page 35 in basic thread post display size.
