I always read that as one of those Nasu-y kind of metaphors. Like, the strongest being, entrusted with the will of the planet, might as well be the planet itself. Because why not, I guess.

I mean, if you want to get technical, Venus only gives the dictionary definition. The "we're fighting eight planets!" thing was Godo's weird conclusion.

That's my interpretation too, I was peddling the idea that they are creatures first, while acting as a tentacle of the Planet.

But every time arai's like "no, Venus said they are the Planet".

Really, I think that scene was supposed to have impact because up until that point the humans simply thought that the Types were unknown lifeforms killing everything. The fact that they're from other worlds is supposed to be a big revelation. But of course, every last one of us who's read it probably spoiled ourselves on that fact ahead of time, and so it's easy to forget that it's not common knowledge within the world of Notes.

That's why Nasu was rubbing in the "they're other planets" thing so much. Probably.
