Dunno, Avalon healed it. Wasn't it said that it didn't allow damage to be healed naturally? I kinda doubt that someone who survived GoB a few times and a beheading is gonna stay down from one shot, and that is if he can get close and has time to do it. But if he got it off(though one wonders why he didn't try it on the Shadow after it ripped his runes apart, maybe he can't do it if what he is attacking doesn't have a discernible 'heart' to pierce?), maybe, I can't count it out, since it was said you can kill Arc with it.

When Lancer stabbed him through the heart in the church, the scene "New Star" I think it was called in the Fate route, was when Saber put some magical energy and Shirou started to feel better. I would think more powerful people with hax unnatural regen can revive from it, but they'll be put down momentarily.

EDIT: No wait, it was called "Shining Star" on the 15th day.

Lancer was not aiming for the heart, and it was not the actual Noble Phantasm.

Remember in both version of Gae Bolg, you get impaled by barbs (and/or having your heart blown up) rather than a simple shankin' wound.

We haven't really received an explanation on what purge defense is precisely, but I figure it's the kind of defensive ability that lets you survive stuff like deluges, being turned into a pillar of salt, or other kinds of acts of divine RAAAAAAAARGH.

So yeah. It exists to let Gilgamesh slap your shit around.

I think godhood is more an explanation then a perk. heracles is so awesome because he is half god, gil is 2/3rds, or B, depending on who you talk to, lancer is a god, generally, being a divinity is the game writing out why you are so freaking awesome.
